Interesting enough, early FJ helmets had regular M35 liners and straps. Guys would jump and the helmet would tip forward (due to wind), and break their noses. Look at early war training photos and some from Crete. You’ll see guys with broken noses
Yep, didn't want to mention the M36 or 37 that much as there were only a couple hundred made/used. Most of the 37s were upgraded with the later liner as well.

@@MikeB128 Aluminium until about 2000, even with the WW2 type leather neck guard.. They used FJ type chinstraps. After 2000 most were plastic due to EU rules about fire helmets not conducting electricity. The aluminium ones post 2000ish had a non -conductive coating. These ones are easily recognised as they no longer had the spaghetti strainer vent holes used since the 40's.
No it is not. The Shuberth F120 PRO and F130 do still have that general shape but they are obviously not made out of steel. However most Firebrigades and Emergency rescue services are currently moving to the F220 propably because it has a visor.
Edit: Some may also be using the Casco PF1000R or Casco PF 112 or some from PAB

The BGS always used versions derived from the M35 and not the M2 style, so that the border police would not be mistaken for Federal Army troops.

A Pickel is in german language a pickaxe ( some say Spitzhacke/ pointed hew). There had been also steel and tombak ones for cuirassiers, few other heavy cavallry and Leibgendarmen ( a palace unit).

The BGS and some police used the WW2 helmet until at least the late 70's. Early post war helmets were the same as WW2. The M35\50 versions came in 2 new variants. Split pins but no vent holes and vent holes but no split pins. The final variant was the M35/70 which had no vent holes or split pins.
The M38 para helmet was made post war also for the Police GSG-9. Not sure when that ended but they can be seen in use in the 70's. The easy way to tell post war ones is by the chinstrap. When the straps splits into a Y, the wartime ones were sewn and the post war were riveted.
The luftschutz air raid gladiator helmets were used until the 90's. Postwar models are fiberglass.
The M42 aluminium civic fire helmet was made almost unchanged until about 2000 complete with leather neckguard. After that they were switched to plastic to comply with EU rules about electric conductivity it fire helmets (some specially treated aluminium ones continued to be made and these lack the "spaghetti" vents seen since 42). Around 2010, the helmet was completely redesigned. It still looks M42ish, but slightly off. The neckguard is gone and the liner is bicycle helmet style with the size dial at the back. This new model sits a bit higher on the head giving it a bit of a doesn't-quite-fit look.

Hmm. Though it might have LOOKED more sensible than the U.S. M1 "steel pot" many USGIs complained about the loss of picking up on ambient sounds due to the lowered skirting of the PASGT helmet. This is why they started looking at the F6 design which raised the skirting somewhat.
In may this year the German MoD announced the adoption of a new standard issue helmet, the Batlskin Viper. Initially only 5,000 have been ordered for Special Forces, then that order was upped to 205,000 pieces to supply the entirety of the German Armed Forces.

Wonder if they could get away with making one with an integrated sensor/comms antenna that looks like a picklehaube.
Could you please do one with all of the variants from other countries that adopted and altered them? For example, the Swiss m1918 and the Russian M36.
Those were not "variants" of the stahlhelm, they were similar......
@@MikeB128 just similar? The resemblance is uncanny, even the designers of those helmets even said that they used the Stahlhelm as their base model. If their helmets can’t be considered Stahlhelme, then the German M18 is also not a Stahlhelm, it’s just similar….. the helmet design has a tree with several branches, not just a trunk.
Just for info: Pickel can mean pimple in German but it can also mean Pickaxe or ice pick (see where the "pick" part of pickel comes from?). It's just the fancy reference to the spike on it. If I had to translate it into modern English I would probably call it the spike helmet.
Depending on which German person I talk to, they say one of those two. I think pimple is funny, but spike also makes sense.
@@MikeB128 I think the problem is that the pimple definition is much wider used nowadays than the somewhat dated "spike" definition. I myself have rarely heard the term being used in that regard either. Not many people have an "Eispickel" (Ice Pick) at home or do mountaineering where the term is used for climbing axes. Outside of these two occasions Pickel always means pimple and a lot of especially younger Germans are probably not even aware of the other meaning anymore.

The MARTE looks more like the "PASGT" style than an M1.

@@MikeB128 no problem. thought in an older video about the ach you mentioned the pads are hard to come by. in fayettville the ucp pads are cheap and plentiful in many surplus stores. as a collector I thought you or devin might've been in need to complete a helmet set up.
