Q 18. Let the No. of birds on branch A = x
Let the No. of birds on branch B = y;
Then,
x-1 = y+1 ---(1) (No. becomes equal)
x+1 = 2(y-1) ----(2) (No. on branch A becomes twice of branch B)
Simplifying equation (1) we get
x = y+2 --- (3)
Substitute this value of x in equation (2)
(y+2)+1 = 2(y-1)
y+3 = 2y-2
3 = 2y-2-y
3 = y-2
y = 5 ---- (4)
Now, substitute this value of y in equation (3)
x = 5 + 2
x = 7
So, the Number of birds sitting on branch A = 7
and the Number of birds sitting on branch B = 5.
