Honestly her canvas has luck, I'm sure she left the set very happy with her tattoo, he did an amazing job. He is actually a very good artist and very underrated, his work just doesn't work well with the show.
While I agree, there are other ways he could've shown legibility. He could've punched in some more of that purple color like the judges had mentioned. You have to get creative on this show.
They don’t judge based on the canvas, otherwise it’d be too easy for people to bitch and moan about “oh I had a bad canvas, go easy.” They go off the tattoo, that is all. If it’s good then it’s good, if it’s bad then it doesn’t matter who’s idea it was.
This season was stacked, so it often felt like they were picking on little things. Kevin is an incredible artist and tattoo artist, and his technique seems almost flawless for the hyper-realistic style he does; the judges just put a ton of weight on line work when Kevin is able to accomplish some of his best stuff without it.

As a watercolor artist, I've seen watercolor pieces that are like literally every piece that's been shown. Some people just use watercolor as a addition to sketches (ink like work specifically), some go and attempt the "random splotches" which can ABSOLUTELY look FAKE even when done with the actual medium, and then I personally work in a near photorealism with watercolor where it's colors (some gradients) that are broken down into smaller shapes but from a distance looks like a photo (as ive been told by others). It's absolutely up to the individual artist as to what the medium works like in terms of style. Some work loose, some work extremely tight and have a sharp control. (Most my watercolor are in a similar vein to Giano's finale piece actually) so when they say a specific thing like 'watercolor tattoo' I think its absolutely necessary to make point of MUST haves/no from what they're considering a watercolor tattoo since the styles in the medium are SO diverse and don't require 'splotches' to be watercolor
"Blue and the negative space white circle spaces... Doesn't look like water color" Um, more like that looks like a FANTASTIC watercolor painting! Wanna know how hard it is to do that in watercolor? And it doesn't look... Sharp? Is this guy kidding? Water color is soft, and a lot of the time, people don't even outline the picture with those sharp blacks and outlines. Because they let the paint speak for itself. And he freaking nailed the medium! It looks exactly like the watercolor pictures I paint.

I'm having a hard time believing the judges know exactly what a water color tattoo is. Especially the finale one, how in this world, is that anywhere near watercolor. Everything has hard outlines there is no natural blend between colors, no splashes of paint like ink, absolutely no gradual color fade outs. This is the total opposite of a watercolor TATTOO. Watercolor tattoos are not just "a painting" it's more then that.

Idk why ppl like Kelly's tattoo of the fox, it's bad. The eyes and nose are wrong, and the color isn't at all how watercolor acts. Watercolors blend and/or layer with transparency but all I see are hard edges and a lot of black shading which is placed weirdly. I understand it was more complicated but in the end, Nikki's piece looked like watercolor, and Kelly's didn't.
I feel like they’re always so technical with how the Wolf looks on different tattoos. How weird that for this one they didn’t care that the eyes were too close or whatever
I feel like gian's finale tattoo didn't really flatter the canvases body at all. Like his chest looks flat now and it took out the distinction between his pecs and lower torso. Like it's a nice picture but it ruined the flow of the body

(There is vast difference between "Man, I am SO stressed out and frustrated of not being able to do what I want/prefer to" and "My canvas is a dick" .)
What's with Oliver Peck not being shown at all in this video. Its weird for him as a judge to be talking with the camera not being on him but the camera is on the other judges when they speak.
He had a black face photo surface not too long ago. They've decided to drop him - all the more recent clips uploaded on to this channel are edited this way to not show him and try not to use his commentary as much as possible.

Artists in real life will also try to talk you out of bad ideas or tweek it so it looks good. I had an artist turn me away once because I didn’t want to change my idea and I thank god for it, bc looking back it sucked. Plus, they are forced to meet the challenge and the canvas knows that and signed up for it.
This is a competitive show not a normal tattoo shop. If you're going to volunteer to get a free tattoo there should definitely be conditions. I hate when a canvas complains and ruins the artists opportunity. That's cruel especially knowing they have so much to loose. If you're a picky person a timed competition with rules isn't the place for you
i'm convinced the judges have never seen actual watercolor paintings. that wolf was amazing. watercolor isn't always splotchy with obvious color transitions. and that watch? that was 100% a water color. the judges never specified what kind of water color they wanted. and the dude interpreted it his own way. if they were looking for something specific, then they should have stated it cuz some people think outside the norm.

By creativity choice and attractiveness, Kelly would have won. But what you didn't consider was the technicality and the skill needed to make the splotches realistic, to which Nikki pulled off more than Kelly. So Nikky won over Kelly because of that one factor.

I think this just goes to show how underrated female tattoo artists are! Nikki, Kelly, and Ryan put out some really sick tattoos, there's a reason that they're so well known after their season!
The whole point of the show tho is to try to get easy tattoos so have am easy ticket to the final plus one of the best artist in that season left to so tbh if he dodnt quit he probably would've taken one of those girls spots tbh not saying that they're not good but they just used their alliance to help then get that far
Nikki’s tattoo technically has the same “issue” as the clock. Would’ve been perfectly legible without the coloring. Both are good watercolor tattoos imo. The judges are so inconsistent :/

No it doesn't. She blended her colors similar to how a water color painting would be. That said, Sketchy Lawyer did a watercolor tattoo but it was more or a simplistic version. It did meet the challenge though.
i fkn love Gian but theres no doubt Ryan had an amazing tattoo too, and it did fit the challange better. Kelly really screwed Gian on a huge watercolor chestpiece but he did it beautiffuly

That wild orchid sternum tattoo was stunning and what the canvas wanted it to be, it's a shame it got such negative judging.
I think this just goes to show how underrated female tattoo artists are! Nikki, Kelly, and Ryan put out some really sick tattoos, there's a reason that they're so well known after their season!
The whole point of the show tho is to try to get easy tattoos so have am easy ticket to the final plus one of the best artist in that season left to so tbh if he dodnt quit he probably would've taken one of those girls spots tbh not saying that they're not good but they just used their alliance to help then get that far

Nikki’s tattoo technically has the same “issue” as the clock. Would’ve been perfectly legible without the coloring. Both are good watercolor tattoos imo. The judges are so inconsistent :/
It's amazing after watching only one of these videos never seeing this show before, their inconsistencies is obvious
but hers wasn't just random ass splashes, it actually looked like it would look if someone painted it with watercolor on a paper
but she actually coloured in the heart, she even made the highlights look like water colour. sketchy just splatted colours that don’t even match the watch, he didn’t even try adding golds or browns
No it doesn't. She blended her colors similar to how a water color painting would be. That said, Sketchy Lawyer did a watercolor tattoo but it was more or a simplistic version. It did meet the challenge though.

My first tattoo was a watercolor rose on my shoulder. My artist was amazing and years later it still looks awesome

My thoughts exactly!!! When I'm bored and paint watercolor it's normally just splatting paint on the paper and then sketching over it. The clock tattoo in the beginning is definitely considered watercolor

I disagree. Kelly's was great, but the image was more defined by the line drawings than the watercolour, which was basically just a background.
I actually loved Nikki's better though. For a watercolour tattoo, it was amazing
I guess kelly didnt get that color bleeding you see in watercolor like how niki did and her wolf is a little disproportional. If you showed me niki's heart and said it's a tattoo I would find it hard to believe.

some pictures of him painting himself black went viral which are pretty racist and so they edited him out the show.
I'm sorry Kellys' watercolor wolf should have been shown more respect that was beautiful and one of the few tattoos I would actually want on my body.
