do you know why? its because Fiction was written by the REV before he died. He wrote fiction as a way to tell them that he wanted the to continue without him. So Far Away was written by Matt Shadows in response to fiction.
When A7X played a show in Winnipeg last year and Matt started talking about this song and The Rev, my section started chanting... "Rev, Rev, Rev, Rev..." The whole crowd started chanting with us, and Matt stopped talking, started crying, bowed his head, then said, "Thank you." It was one of the most beautiful moments I've ever experienced. R.I.P. Jimmy foREVer
M Shadows in an interview with Hard Drive Radio : "The eeriest thing about it is there is a song on the album called "Fiction" (a nickname The Rev gave himself) which started out with the title "Death". And it was the last song The Rev wrote for the album, and when he handed it in, he said, 'That's it, that's the last song for this record'. And then, three days later, he died, the last song he wrote was "Fiction" one of the verses from The Rev was "I hope it's worth it here on the highway I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you".
This song to me shows Jimmy knew he was dieing. He wrote his own eulogy and completed it three days before he died. He was a great drummer, a crazy person, but one of the sweetest guys you would have ever met. I was lucky to meet Jimmy once and he will always stay in my memory. One day I'm hoping to introduce Avenged Sevenfold to my daughter and give her an inspiration like they were an inspiration to me, especially Jimmy who was my idol and is the reason I play drums. He gave me my inspiration and showed me how much passion you can put into drumming. He was one of the best drummers that we have lost. He is gone but he will never be forgotten.
I think you are right I to like Jimmy have a very bad heart and believe me you know when something is not right the lyrics say it all not that I would or that I could let it burn he wasn't wanting to die come on people he just knew his time was up he did more than what he was supposed to but he did it because he loved it but in the end it was too much for his heart to handle I want this song played at my funeral RIP Jimmy hope I see you on the other side
I mean he wanted to get this song on Self titled but they already had enough so they said just put it on nightmare when he coincidentally died 3 days after recording this they think this is his Suicide note
Fiction was completed by the Rev three days before his death. He told M. Shadows: “I think I’ve given you guys everything that I have. I don’t know if we have any songs left or what we’re going to do, but this is my final song”.
filipinjo90 That's crazy. I know he came in and handed this in as the last song to the album, but I didn't know he said all that too. Any chance for a source pls? I just miss him and wanted to see.
129 people must not know the story behind this song. Its the REV saying goodbye to the world and the ones he loved.. All that aside, He wrote the song, played all the instruments and sang too.. Most people couldn't even come close to playing the drums ,let alone the piano, and bass.. Talent like that only comes around every so often...
I can't stand how people talk shit about how the Rev sounds at 3:33 that is the most powerful part of the song to me. Living in depression not knowing if you want to stay another day... Do you hear the pain in his voice... This is the part where he says his final goodbye to his family, friends, and all of us.
You are 100% right. He was perfect, just like we all are, he had his voice, and we hear him in it every time. I get chills still when I listen to Nightmare. I really think it is one of the best rock albums ever, perfect!
I am not a very emotional person, but when The Rev says, "I know you'll find your own way, when I'm not with you.", I just burst into tear. I think it's because of the pure emotion he felt when he was writing this song. R.I.P. The Rev foREVer
“I know you’ll find your own way, when I’m not with you.” I don’t usually cry from music, but when I first heard these lyrics, they punched me right in the heart. What a beautiful and heartbreaking song.
This is a message to all fans of Avenged Sevenfold. The REV is still in our hearts. He has been ever since he started playing. We will miss the REV foREVer. Don't let the haters pull you down. Push them down and stand strong. If we still stand, the REV will be here foREVer. We must not forget the great effort he put into these songs. Just believe.
This song is and always will be one of the great underrated masterpieces in music history... The lyrics, the music, the surreal resonances of it and the genius behind it will forever blow my mind... Just a fuckin wonderful, beautiful song
He made this song because he knew he was gonna die. He wasn't too sure how, but he knew one way or another, he was gonna die. It's not a suicide note, it's just his final song of goodbye to his friends, his brothers, his family and his fans.
let it burn under my skin, I feel he hemwas talking about the shot he knew he would end his life would burn. as it entered his system. I know a lot of people who shot morphine and they said it would burn.
+Sherry Lowery No it's because of his heart disorder, he didn't want to live with it and in some videos he talks about how his organs sometimes really burn
So far this year, I have lost my childhood best friend, my father, and last Friday, my grandma as well. I have listened to this song a million times and every time it hurts so good. Especially in the break down with the rev singing into m shadows, every time i just know i have to find my own way now.
They played this song last year and it was so emotional. The lead singer was crying and almost everyone in the audience started crying, including myself.
It's the perfect suicide note for the rev. He was in so much pain but wanted everyone he loved, to know this is ok I need this to be happy and you will move on and find your own. God so crazy. Rip My boy. But I already kno you are.
I've had many arguments with people as to whether or not Rev sings in this. He damn sure does. Yes, Matt does sing most of it, but you can definitely tell when it's not Matt. I mean c'mon listen to some Pinkly Smooth then this and you can definitely hear Jimmy. And not just his voice, you can hear his actual words and thoughts in this. RIP Jimmy♥
sal brouwer No no no, he was going to die by the time he was thirty, he was in lots of pain so he took himself out of his suffering. At least, that's what I've heard.
The song Afterlife was also written by Jimmy. The lyrics in Afterlife make it seem like he had thoughts of ending his life at a young age, but realized that it was going too far. It's such a shame that he changed his mind in the time between Afterlife and Fiction. He was a true artist, though. He really put everything into his songs. You really get a glimpse into his mind through his song writing. I think most artists try to write songs with meanings, but Jimmy's songs are different and heavy; it's like viewing deep into his soul. It sounds so corny, but Jimmy really lives on through his songs. His songs are quintessentially HIM.
Jimmy was, is and always will be the best drummer in history. I for one never saw him perform live, but I know one thing for sure: He is rocking in the Afterlife for Dear God. Hearing him on CD is like A Little Piece of Heaven for me. He will foREVer be my favorite drummer. All I can say is HAIL TO THE KING! (I think I used to many puns.)
I started loving avenged sevenfold in 2010 I believe. The first few weeks or even longer I didn't knew that Jimmy died. When I found out I started crying and it still hurts. You can actually miss a person when you never knew them.
10 years ago I listened to this almost every day after my best friend had passed away, and asked myself many times why. Today Im listening for the first time since my teenaged years and I think I have some of the answers I was looking for.
+Lottie Harris yeah he recorded it in secret and gave it to them before he died, and the song Brompton Cocktail is about a man who has a disease and wants to commit suicide by taking drugs and alcohol, AKA jimmy's enlarged heart......listen to brompton cocktail and it all makes sense
I became a fan back during City Of Evil. I wish I got into A7X during at least Waking the Fallen or Sounding The Seventh Trumpet. Maybe I would have seen them live and seen Jimmy before his passing. It's one thing I'll never be able to experience, but this is why I admire this band. They took his passing and got strength from it and instead of disbanding (even though they thought about it) they pulled themselves together to write a new album. It's tough to stomach that just about every one of their soft songs, such as this, Seize the Day, So Far Away, Dear God and etc, which sound so soothing and calming, are the most emotional and heartfelt songs they've written. Listening to this song damn near brings me to tears every time.
I got to see A7x back when "The Rev" was still pounding them drums! He was badass live they all were and still are as I've gotten to see them live again in May! Without Reverend Bartholomew Plaque sadly. I adore this band their music their messages! True talent RIP JAMES SULLIVAN!
I saw them live 3 times before the rev passed I still remember the first time I saw them I couldn't stop watching the rev with the stick twirls and his aggressive drumming style. Gives me chills still when I think about it. Started listening to avenged back in 2003. RIP REV FOREVER.
This is one of the few songs that make me cry. I miss The Rev and I'm glad he left us this perfect song. Every time I lose somebody, I listen to this song and thing about his words, and how all our loved ones hope we find our own ways when they're not with us.
Rev wasn't a simple drummer. He was that piece of man who put all soul in his work . Was a brother a friend a idol for us. His pass away will always leave pain in our hearts but we never stop to keep them alive. Jimmy gave his music and life for us and will be forever in his music and friends and memories. Thanks Jimmy Rest In Peace for eternal
It has been 5 years since the passing of James Sullivan, I can only wonder what music would be like with him still in the music business. The Reverend was a great songwriter and an amazing drummer. R.I.P. Jimmy, thank you for all the wonderful music, thank you everything. There is piece on the other side and thats your little piece of heaven.
Pertama kali dengar lagu ini pas di warnet. Sekitar tahun 2013, aku masih SMK kelas 1. Entah kenapa sedih gitu, terus nangis. Padahal belum begitu tahu maknanya. Miss you, The Rev. You will always in my heart.
I had dedicated this song to a good friend who passed away last sept. I had gotten the a7x tat for him bc we were suppose to go to their concert. but I will see them soon just make him happy and myself as well.
+Eckeberger Comma Joshua why would she shut up . You shut up cause even if you wait 7 billion years hes never coming back. Im also his fan and i miss him a lot but doesnt mean hes coming back..
He will come back as the knife master you now why? Because am not a sick piece of shit to believe that revs death is the end of the story like some of those guys
The Rev is one of my favorite singers, his voice has so much passion and character. I wish there could have been another project where he was lead vocalist and that wasn't quite as avant-garde as Pinkly Smooth. Pinkly Smooth does have some good stuff though. The rarity of his vocals at least makes those moments just that much more special though.
does it make me a baby that everytime I hear this song it brings so much tears to me I have loved them since I was 3 and now I am almost 14 Avenged Sevenfold is my life and I just miss Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan so much :'(. I love you Jimmy
This song hits way to close to home I was listening to it when my grandfather who was my mentor passed I now listen to this whenever I think about him and a cry like a child every damn time
it has been 5 years now and we will forever miss you. you gave a whole different meaning to drumming and thank you for helping so many you are a great inspiration and to those who knew you and grow up with you.they were very lucky to have great friend like you
I'm gonna deciate this song to my long lost dad who had died back in 2002 from a very aggressive cancer diagnosis which will be his 20th anniversary this December. "I hope you'll find your own way, when I'm not with you tonight". Those words are really impactful to me and borderline making me cry, not to get emotional on anyone but, I tend to be an emotional person which is better to be emotional than leaning on to drugs or alcohol or emotional eating type of situation. Love ya dad, miss you for a lifetime and of course love ya Jimmy for writing such a beautiful masterpiece to finish off with your legacy.
My cousin and I cry so hard when we hear this song. This song just has so much memories for us. Our uncles got us into this band pretty much been listening to them since we were babies. Just the particular song never fails to hit the heart. We both are 17 rn and still listen. Crying atm too❤️😭
He knew he was going to die... just look at the pictures from Matt's wedding in October 2009, the Rev had such a weird aspect (he didn't shave his beard, he didn't dye his hair black),not caring about your image sometimes is due to depression, even the band members say he simply wasn't himself the days prior to his death... This song just confirms it. He knew his death was going to hurt his family and friends, makes me cry thinking about what was going through his head at that time. Rest in peace, Jimmy
This song helped me through a very hard time the revs vocal spoke to me and gave me hope a guiding light in a just highway of darkness it's nice to think so many years after his death he still helps people mad respect for him and A7x foREVever
I payed attention to the lyrics of this song 3 days ago... now it sticks with me, I'm constantly humming it... I heard it in my dreams last night... and started singing it first thing when I woke up. Its melody is haunting, yet peaceful.
A beautiful song, and I love the piano in it too. I got close to the end of the song, thinking of the Rev, and then the lyrics, "I hope you find your way when I'm not with you tonight" and the tears came. RIP, Rev.
Five years ago today the world lost an amazing drummer, and a friend. Jimmy you may be gone, but you are not forgotten, we all know eventually you will come back as the knife master.Today we should not mourn his loss, because I doubt he would want that, we should celebrate the memories and music he left us with. RIP Jimmy, you will be remembered foREVer!
This is such an underrated song Even 9 years later this song can still bring me to tears Rest In Peace Rev we loved you and wish you cold have stayed longer 😢
My son lost his 14 year old Golden Retriever "Toba" this year and made an Instagram tribute to his 'best friend.' It was set to the last 2 minutes of this song. Brings me to tears when I hear it
i can listen to this song over and over. Feel so close to it, because i have been right there. Trying to take my life by oding. Apparently i still have a purpose here. Rest Easy Rev
Fiction: promise me you'll never feel afraid...
So far away: Sleep tight, I'm not afraid...
Holy shit, I never realized that
Oh my gosh... You are the true a7x fan foREVer
I always noticed it lol #foREVer
do you know why?
its because Fiction was written by the REV before he died. He wrote fiction as a way to tell them that he wanted the to continue without him.
So Far Away was written by Matt Shadows in response to fiction.

Well of course Jimmy knew, this was his suicide note.
Maybe it was all a plan. He didnt know he was dying but it was the endgame

That and mixing alcohol and pain killers.
Fiction was completed by the Rev three days before his death. He told M. Shadows: “I think I’ve given you guys everything that I have. I don’t know if we have any songs left or what we’re going to do, but this is my final song”.
Knowing that makes me sadder. I don't listen to this song often because I break down. But thank you dor that.

also this it says promise me you'll never feel afraid and in so far away it says sleep tight I'm not afraid the ones that we loved are here with me
it is the song, last he wrote.

Almost Easy was the last song The Rev performed.
Go listen to the midway-chorus, it's pretty fucking haunting.

Doug Ryniker be didn't kill himself it was a rumor that someone started on UA-cam it was so stupid the band even said he didn't kill himself
Autum Layne It's common sense that he killed himself
Autum Layne suicide doesn't have to be intentional. Hence accidental suicide. It was an overdose. I know brotha thank you!
Oh and btw "suicide note" as in his final letter to the world.
he didnt commit suicide, to say that he did is kinda insulting to him since he died cause of overdose.

Alayna Puccio AND THEY EVEN SAID THEY USED THE ORIGINAL RECORDING FROM JIMMY TOO
How can you not tell when Jimmy's singing? He has such a unique voice.
Those who argue are probably not real A7X fan
@@Brendini27 The red lyrics are Jimmy.
Agree
i wish i could play the piano just for this song.... this songs makes me cry womanly tears
marie torres SAME GIRL
+marie torres I played it on the piano but I forgot how to since it's been 4 years :D
+marie torres The piano piece is actually really straightforward. With a bit of practice and desire you could play it too.
+marie torres I play it on drums, because the drums are actually pretty fun on this track.
+marie torres I tried so hard not to, but at the end, the last line, i lost it...
I love M.Shadows voice tremble right after The Rev's vocals at 3:45. It sends shivers down my back when I hear the tremble.
I'm not hearing any trembling
Rest in peace to The REV and anyone else that has taken their own life. We miss you and hope you're safe up in heaven.
Your profile photo could be Jimmy's stallion duck :')

I can't imagine how they went through with this without bursting into tears. I know I did
I think syn cried the most its sad thinking about it
Seymen Uestuen yes it is ;/
Listen to this every night before I go to bed, there is just something special about The Revs voice...
Don't cry... Don't cry... Don't cry... Oh fuck! 😭😭
It's inevitable listening to this like it or not tears come
Only way I wont cry with this song is singing and I sound just like jimmy like 96% do that how i stop crying when i dont sing it i cry my eyes out

"Not that I could, or that I would." Coming back to my own comment 3 years later to say I know. I feel. I lived.
This song sounds like a suicide note.
It is
The drummer of the band, Jimmy (The Rev), wrote this song in secret, gave it to the band, and died three days later.
+Cernunnos363 he didn't commit suicide
+TheOutcast Only the Rev knows why and what happened.
once I found out it was a death note I listened to the lyrics closely and I cried I could just see him write the song in pain and leave in peace
seriously ? that makes this song just that bit more touching now
Yes, this song is his suicide note. And Brompton Cocktail is song to show how he is dead
@@adimascakra07 it is not his suicide note

The Rev sang everything, but Shadows had is voice along with his for some

True talent
RIP JAMES SULLIVAN!
I saw them live 3 times before the rev passed I still remember the first time I saw them I couldn't stop watching the rev with the stick twirls and his aggressive drumming style. Gives me chills still when I think about it. Started listening to avenged back in 2003. RIP REV FOREVER.
It's Michael me too
It's Michael Waking The Fallen and Sounding The Seventh Trumpet are my favorite A7x albums, besides Nightmare.
5 years ago today.
This song makes me cry. It's just so tragic. The Rev is an inspiration to me and is one of many reasons why I started playing drums.
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you.. I love this song! R.I.P. foREVer!!
This is one of the few songs that make me cry. I miss The Rev and I'm glad he left us this perfect song. Every time I lose somebody, I listen to this song and thing about his words, and how all our loved ones hope we find our own ways when they're not with us.
Guys, don't listen to this when you're high on weed. I just fuckin cried!
R. I. P Jimmy
Here for my daily dose of musical greatness. We miss you Jimmy.
3:32 gets me every time when he comes in "I hope it's worth it here on the highway I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you..."
Are you still using this acc
1:47 what a powerful piece of music man, Jesus. Haven't heard such an emotionally loaded melody in a while.
Pertama kali dengar lagu ini pas di warnet. Sekitar tahun 2013, aku masih SMK kelas 1. Entah kenapa sedih gitu, terus nangis. Padahal belum begitu tahu maknanya.
Miss you, The Rev. You will always in my heart.
alright who left this bowl of onions here
Hi Squidward
I see what you did there
I had dedicated this song to a good friend who passed away last sept. I had gotten the a7x tat for him bc we were suppose to go to their concert. but I will see them soon just make him happy and myself as well.

To be honest if you play this at your funeral it will sound like you pulled the trigger on yourself.
he'll come back, he just ran into the woods to become the knife master
+Tyler Ahde Jimmy is dead. End of story.
+Lalrin Tluangi If you watch A7x dog on drugs, you'll get the joke... ;-;
+Eckeberger Comma Joshua why would she shut up . You shut up cause even if you wait 7 billion years hes never coming back. Im also his fan and i miss him a lot but doesnt mean hes coming back..
”I'm running away and never coming back! and when I come back I'm gonna be the knife master!”
R.I.P hope you have a stallion duck
Fh Uyy.nv b g rg gngf5? Ntar aku yg
Cmere you.... F**kin stallion duck!!!
does it make me a baby that everytime I hear this song it brings so much tears to me I have loved them since I was 3 and now I am almost 14 Avenged Sevenfold is my life and I just miss Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan so much :'(. I love you Jimmy
This song hits way to close to home I was listening to it when my grandfather who was my mentor passed I now listen to this whenever I think about him and a cry like a child every damn time
it has been 5 years now and we will forever miss you. you gave a whole different meaning to drumming and thank you for helping so many you are a great inspiration and to those who knew you and grow up with you.they were very lucky to have great friend like you
Just.... wow... the rev was brilliant he really was
I'm gonna deciate this song to my long lost dad who had died back in 2002 from a very aggressive cancer diagnosis which will be his 20th anniversary this December.
You're comment made me cry!😭
Stay strong bro💪💪
One of the most haunting piano pieces ever and then it turns into a beautiful soft medley. It just goes to show what a musical genius Jimmy was.
this song can steal my soul , thanks still inspire 2022
RIP One of the best drummer
Jimmy Owen Sullivan

My cousin and I cry so hard when we hear this song. This song just has so much memories for us. Our uncles got us into this band pretty much been listening to them since we were babies. Just the particular song never fails to hit the heart. We both are 17 rn and still listen. Crying atm too❤️😭
Keep on rocking 🤘🏻
He knew he was going to die... just look at the pictures from Matt's wedding in October 2009, the Rev had such a weird aspect (he didn't shave his beard, he didn't dye his hair black),not caring about your image sometimes is due to depression, even the band members say he simply wasn't himself the days prior to his death... This song just confirms it. He knew his death was going to hurt his family and friends, makes me cry thinking about what was going through his head at that time. Rest in peace, Jimmy
9 years later a d I still cry every time I miss the rev
this song deserves more views and thumb ups...
Agree but some people dont know the story behind it and dont know the song

I payed attention to the lyrics of this song 3 days ago... now it sticks with me, I'm constantly humming it... I heard it in my dreams last night... and started singing it first thing when I woke up.
Its melody is haunting, yet peaceful.
LOVE YOU JIMMY "THE REV" SULLIVAN!!!!
R.I.P. The Rev, the best drummer to ever be, Jimmy...
A beautiful song, and I love the piano in it too. I got close to the end of the song, thinking of the Rev, and then the lyrics, "I hope you find your way when I'm not with you tonight" and the tears came. RIP, Rev.
i miss James so damn much. RIP man. cant wait to rock with you on the other side.
RIP Rev, his legacy still lives on with this beautiful music
Five years ago today the world lost an amazing drummer, and a friend. Jimmy you may be gone, but you are not forgotten, we all know eventually you will come back as the knife master.Today we should not mourn his loss, because I doubt he would want that, we should celebrate the memories and music he left us with. RIP Jimmy, you will be remembered foREVer!
Dont worry... He will be back soon... As the knife master :)
He's not gone he's in the woods training to be the knife master
This is such an underrated song
Even 9 years later this song can still bring me to tears Rest In Peace Rev we loved you and wish you cold have stayed longer 😢
My son lost his 14 year old Golden Retriever "Toba" this year and made an Instagram tribute to his 'best friend.' It was set to the last 2 minutes of this song. Brings me to tears when I hear it
I’m not really an emotional person, but sometimes this song genuinely makes me tear up, especially towards the end. Such a beautiful song 😢
#foREVer A7X we will miss you james sullivan (1981-2009)
The last few minutes is just so heart touching ❤️
Just a perfect subtlety to put the voice of The Rev in red. Thank you for doing that. His voice deserves to stand out more.
The chilling part is the fact is this is the last time rev would ever record his own lyrics r.i.p jimmy you are the reson i started drumming !
We will miss you foREVer. RIP
CO2 Apparently We all miss him. He was, and still is, in my opinion, THE best drummer.
Avenged Sevenfold 89 awesome we must stand together to keep the rev alive we must not forget foREVer

not to disrespect the rev, but I feel he would have been ok with mike portnoy playing his masterpiece for him as respects...
Tyler Riles Mike was Rev's favourite drummer. If anything, Rev would be honoured

A very sad, but good, song. It offers me some inspiration, though.
