Having done this yesterday. I would say its much quicker and far less chance of breaking something just removing 4 extra screws at the bottom of the dash (2 in either foot well - 1 exposed 1 hidden). Chances are those clip nuts will fall down there anyway (as your right hand top one has done).
This Idea is Much harder than 4 more screws. What could happen with your instructions is that 2 metal screw clips fall down under the car carpet. Speaking from experience, I would not advise this.

@D C once you remove the first screw you can pull out the small panel and it reveals the 2nd screw holding in the centre panel.
@@smtkelly Thanks for the tip on the four lower screws, just had to change my heater/AC control panel on my 2014 berlingo this morning.
