You should checkout some of Mark Lettieri's solo work, and I know you would like anything from either of his two "Deep Sessions" albums. He calls them The Deep Sessions because he plays the baritone guitar on both albums and they are fantastic.
This is from the suite of music written (all parts) and arranged (with input from Jules Buckley) called SYLVA. For me the best way to experience this suite is in its entirety in one sitting as it is all connected. The Clearing is the conclusion. Someplace Michael League wrote about the significance of each part, but I don’t remember where. League is simply a musical genius.
Hey Jeff. Atchafalaya is a Native American word most commonly associated with Cajun and Creole culture and food. I know it's also the name of a river. Louisiana... which explains the tempo and feel of the song. Kinda "second line-ish" don't you think? Also, like everything Snarky Puppy does, this is a cool song from a cool album. Thanks again!
I listen to the entirety of the Sylva album at least weekly. So beautiful and satisfying to listen to. In this listen I noticed the incredible use of dynamics. I swear sometimes it sounds like someone literally turning down a volume knob, it's just so smooth!
Ok, this a piece that needs at three listenings to make a rational comment for this layman. Must say Metropole Orkest first that they are an incredible large ensembly who have love what they do. Snarky's stuff, again a three time listen to make sense of the sheer cohesiveness and, not to mention, the transitions between songs.kinda like the Lousiana style on "Atchafalaya" (yeah, writing as I am listening).
Their headphones all have a personalized live mix which they can control.its simply about levels and being able to choose what they hear, and how loud each instrument is. No clicks or backing tracks. They play live always.
I always love your reactions. You balanceyour fanboy of great music with great insight and information on the inner workings of musical compositions. Thank you for that.
Hi Jeff. Checking out the rest of the songs from Sylva is a must. Amazing as what you just heard is, I think the other songs get even better. My favorite Snarky record.
The Metropole Orkest is the best orchestra in the Netherlands and although politicians managed to get rid of most orchestras in the Netherlands the Metropole Orkest is still going strong. As an assistant sound engineer I know the orchestra from the 70s and 80s - of course the old guys are all replaced by new people, but they only hire the best. Of course you know All Night Long with Jacob Collier, Take Six and the Metropole Orkest.
Jeff - isn't it insane what comes out of Mike Leagues head? I believe he composed all of this. And this was done like 7 years ago. What a band, what a collaboration. Thanks for the review!
Snarky Puppy, in my humble opinion, is the BEST freakin' band in the world!!!! These people are just phenomenal. And, Jeff, I hardly understand how it is that, when that sax was playing his solo, I heard something different about. Couldn't identify it. Couldn't understand what was going on with his sound. But when you called it out... all of a sudden I could hear everything with a clarity that wasn't there before. Stuff like that AMAZES me!!!!! So, thank you for pointing that out. What's the name of this album?
🤯 if stepping out of the fourth dimension wasn’t enough (time literally faded away), that outro was insanely beautiful.. I just want that on a loop.. but which loop?! 😰😂 thanks for sharing a blinder Jeff 🙌
Atchafalaya - - A Chaf A Lie A (Louisiana Swamp, so some of that New Orleans vibe). I know you hear it all the time, but you gotta check out The Curtain from them next, same album and amazing
@@StrateleStudios no click track or cues it’s all live mix. I was just at the recording of the Empire Central album in Dallas and they made it clear no clicks and no cues
Sorry for the weird framing on the intro. Had the wrong camera on and had to crop weird. 🤪
This is my absolute favorite album from Snarky. So awesome that tou did the whole three-piece combo! Much love!
Thank you Kasper! :)

He certainly is! :)
i believe it has something to do with forests. and each song is about one
This was incredible. Wonderful!
I have been waiting for someone to react to this video for ages! Glad it was you who did it first, always enjoy your reactions!
Thank you Jens!!! :)
last part seems like the marching band of one of James bond 1990s movies where they'll always kill someone and wisk the corpse away via a parade
HELLO, N.O. Tuba and percussion beat.....beautiful!!!!!
LETS FUCKING GOOO. This is my most favorite album of all time.

In this case, Atchafalaya refers to the wetlands in Louisiana. The Sylva suite is a musical tribute to a series of forest landscapes and images.
Thank you for this info!

Michael League is an incredible composer-arranger, this is sublime! Love your reactions, keep them coming!

Again you put a big smile on my face, i needed that. Thanks
Absolutely love Flight, especially when it gets to the exchange on keys between Justin and Cory. So cool.
One of my all-time favorite musical moments!
Dang! Just gorgeous. ♥ Thanks, Jeff.

Cracking. Full of joy now.

Hi, I'm in the US. Am I the only one missing something? Politicians purging Holland of orchestras? Can you elaborate?
They didn’t use a click track on this record and they have never used a guide track everything is just called out by Michael or memorized

He's so damn prolific! He just oozes awesome music!

Oh ya for sure but they are also getting fed a guide track for the click and possibly cues. I was curious exactly what was in the guide feed.
