I mean, the biggest problem is the fact thet Héra never existed as such and the whole thing is a lore breaking. Even her name is a betrayer to Tolkien, he would avoid any greak word purposfully in his work. (And yes, hera as a germanic word exist, but it's meaning entirly unaccaptable for a princess and he would still avoid it becuase the similaritise)

Wait, which meaning does Hera have in old Germanic languages? I am actually interested now since I couldn't find anything when googling it.

@@GermanPotato-r4j I only heard it from others but it is supposidly mean "male servant or follower". If I understand it is used in old anglo-saxon or in old english. I am not sure about the time period as I am not super knowledgable about early anglo linguistics, sadly.

Yes all the nerds became etymology experts. Betraying Tolkien is hilarious at this point after they turned a short children's story into a 9 hour movie 20 years ago.
This movie is just a decent companion to the LOTR movies. Just not a big deal at all and completely inoffensive, but that has stopped the nerds being offended and acting like experts about something they haven't seen.

1, I can talk about the name itself even if I don't watch the film.
2, I learned some etymology back in the day, thoguh I am not english, but you don't need to be a scholar to look up dictionarise anyway. This is just credentialism in topics were you don't even need it, only thing you need look into more is why Tolkien avoided greek and latin names, but if you have an actual argument why Héra is not a bad name go ahade.
Everytime they make a bad Tolkien adaptation people will be angry, this is not an argument. You basicly say we should just give up becuase the Hobbit films were already bad. I understand you liked the film, but you can actually make argument for it and not attack the critics themselfs or use "it was already bad" arguments.
What I saw from this film, yes, I agree. Generally is just a 4/10 film without any realy deepness, sidelinening the actual main characters, makeing up fake lore and giving characters undeserved importance, oh yes, and the animation is pretty rough, but otherwise it is a pretty decent film.

Sounds like a mixture of actual lore and cooky cutter plot elements. You can basically get this story from playing the third age divide and conquer mod for total war medieval 2, selecting dunland and rohan and reading their faction info textbox. As for original content, it's not good, it's inoffensively bland, which I guess counts for quality in the modern media landscape, at least among those who bother with such things.

Some people in the culture war or nerd culture sphere have become rotted in their brains, be it from the centrist left (a tomboy is suddenly a girlboss) or from the dissident right (too much diversity because of one non-white), that it's becoming harder to judge based on its merits.
And before someone asks me to provide examples, those are caricatures based on logical conclusions.

      @undefinedhuman7404 Місяць тому

literally who from the left complains about tomboys becoming girlbosses? and also from the dissident right perspective, specifically on rings of power, it was not just ONE non-white lol

@@undefinedhuman74041. The tomboy part hasn't happened yet. What I said is a thought that will lead to a logical conclusion. Have you seen The Quartering and No BS? The former has overzealous viewers defending his lack of research and hot takes just because there is pattern recognition. He's making the term "woke" more meaningless.
      2. In the case of the "one non-white", that also hasn't happened yet but it will be a logical conclusion if it doesn't make sense in context. This is not applied to race-swapping; that can be called out.

All you said was just because it's not as woke or as girl bossy as other slop means that it must be good. Have some standards, and not shove your snout in the tough just because the slop just happens to be more tolerable this time.

      1. There were a few shadowbanned comments in this thread that you can check out.
      2. I don't like slop either, but where do we draw the line on to the point they are criticizing entertainment based on tropes and usages of archetypes that never actually happened in those cases? I'm for standards and those include not jumping to conclusions based on sloppy research and hot takes.
There is a reason I respect King Emperor Penguin, Pilgrims Pass, Argent, and Fritz Imperial more when it comes to media analysis than the Quarter Pounder and No BS.

@@Time10amhow 'bout people just watch what they want? This movie is so inoffensive but of course the nerds couldn't help but be offended about something they haven't seen.

I'm normally relatively fine with heckin stronk independent women in anime but even without any additional context just having another stock strong woman warrior protagonist in a tolkien based show is an L
