Arlo was my first concert. My friend and I snuck backstage and found Arlo. He hung with us and chatted. He asked us to help bring his piano on stage, and we did, so he gave us backstage passes, and had security put us right up at the stage and asked us to call the first 5 songs. After the show we went backstage to talk with him as he signed autographs and met with fans. Nicest guy. Absolutely ruined it for every concert we saw after that. Nothing else ever compared to that first concert and how cool Arlo was to a couple of 15 year Olds in the late 70's.so I've told this story 100 times, and was seen about 3 years ago by Arlo, and I got to thank him and call my friend into the chat with Arlo, and we both got to tell him thanks and tell him how cool it was for him to be like that for a couple of 15 year olds, and a couple of late 50's guys reflecting on our first concert.
Arlo is a great human being.
One day I'll tell my grandchildren all about how good Arlo was to us.

I can hardly think of how to express my gratitude for the faithfulness of the folk singers and country singers who have persisted with this kind of music. In and out of popularity, getting crowds of people to sing together, finding ways to knit our souls together and make us strong in this crazy old world. Whew! Such warriors!

We go around the circle taking turns playing whatever songs we pick when it goes around the circle till it's my turn....I'll be 68 September 1st and my friends from kindergarten and even before kindergarten are still the best of friends and I have a 2 bedroom trailer outside my home town, so that I can still get together with friends and family to share the music.... I'm so blessed...I'd rather be there with them 5han on a vacation somewhere with strangers. They mean the world to me

You said what I feel very eloquently....it's such a feeling of comradeship and a feeling like being a part of a big family...love the live concerts too especially..my friends and I get together all the time and get in a big circle with our instruments banjos guitars mandolins ukelele, and we take turns picking songs and playing singing harmonies and a lifelong friendship ...I'm 68 in September and I went to kindergarten with most of them.... I keep a trailer there year round on a small lake and all my nieces and nephews and cousins all play and sing too.... I love them all.. music keeps us all together...

This is what I am talking about when I tell younger people that America was once on the right track - not perfect, but trying harder to advance the common man. Would prime time ever feature someone like Arlo now? We need him more than ever now.

Well, I agree with Arlo. It was a dingleberry folk song. I'm a huge Arlo Guthrie fan. I saw him twice. He changed my life. I'm actually a folk musician and a big part of that is Arlo. But that was still dingleberry folk song.

In the Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY, I went to a fundraiser for the Sloop Clearwater whose mission is to clean up the Hudson River. Pete Seeger had Harry Chapin, Steve Goodman, and Ken Burns (Jethro of Homer and Jethro) perform a show with him. The four of them, on stools, taking turns starting songs and the others, including the audience joining in. What an incredibly fun evening for a great cause.

I don’t know why, but thought too many people wouldn’t be there…got to the box office & I bought 2 of the last 4 tickets!!! Single seats, too. Someone I didn’t know gave up his seat so that me & my friend could sit together! I just love how most of the people I’ve been around at concerts I’ve been to are so much kinder than some of your neighbors. I find that pretty amazing. Also have been listening to Pete Seeger for years! This was a real treat! Ty!

This is a 1987 pilot for a weekly variety show that wasn't picked up. Arlo was attempting to capitalise on the tidal wave of Boomer nostalgia that had flooded the world by then. (Although he failed in this case, he did in fact become a frequent guest on similar shows, such as Austin City Limits.)

I had an interesting "meetup" with Pete Seeger back in the 90s. I lived in Poughkeepsie, not too far from Beacon where he lived with his wife Toshi. A friend of mine was interviewing him for her local radio show in Mount Vernon and asked if I could drive him down. For meeting a musical legend? Sure thing! Once he got in the car though I got a little paranoid, what if? If something happened (a nobody driving an icon resulting in fatality!!😱) so I hardly said a word the whole 45 minutes. 😅 Pete filled in telling me about a song or story he had written. That was my rubbing-elbows interaction with folk music social activism greatness. haha

Coming Into Los Angeles (Arlo Guthrie)
    Starts at 1:16:50
    (Dialog starts ar 1:10:00
Coming in from London from over the Pole
    Flying in a big airliner
Chickens flying everywhere around the plane
Could we ever feel much finer?
    Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please
    Mister Customs Man
There's a guy with a ticket to Mexico
No, he couldn't look much stranger
Walking in the hall with his things and all
Smiling, said he was the Lone Ranger
    Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please
    Mister Customs Man
Hip woman walking on a moving floor
    Tripping on the escalator
There's a man in the line and she's blowing his mind
Thinking that he's already made her
    Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of keys
But don't touch my bags if you please

18 minutes in and "Victor Jara" comes alive, revived, renewed and ready to take on pandemic plagues.

Bless Arlo, Pete, Shenandoah, Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Lee, David Bromberg, Austin Song Chasers and the same Maker that gave us Victor Jara, took him in such sadistic way and keeps bringing him back when "the people" are in need...There have been others, Maker willing, there will be more...I ain't the scriptwriter...just a bit player. Grateful Alive even when hurting or grieving or looking for a way to get away from blues...Hope Pete and Victor and mebbe even Mother Jones and Joe Hill jamming up in the Green Room with Terry Callier and his Chicago Sufi Combo, with Okie time-keepers Cale, Russell, McCreary keepin' or dispensin' wid time...Whatever the Song calls for...

What a great show. I saw John Prine, with special guest Bonnie Raitt in Columbus, Oh in 1988. Then the next year I saw Bonnie and her band touring her album Nick of Time. I saw Arlo on his 50th year anniversary of Alice's Restaurant tour in SA TX. I saw him in the late 70s with Pete, Holly near and Ronnie Gilbert in C-bus. In 2019 I saw JT and BR in Austin.
