That said there weren’t that many global golds accumulated by Cram, Coe and Ovett. When you consider how dominant he was in the mid 80s Cram only won one 🥇 (WC 1983). I think Coe was the best as he won two Olympic 1500m golds.
I remember that. I remember being called into the living room by dad in 1985, and he said , look at this. Cram had just taken off. a few weeks later he ran 3:29.
🥇 Cram in full flight was majestic, he was tactically better than Coe or Ovett. He knew how to place himself to win. Cram would beat anyone from any era in his 1985 form in Oslo when he broke the WR in the mile. 🏃
Well, he didn't really have a tactic, he simply did a long run from home. Ovett almost always left it late, and Coe with his basic speed, again preferred to leave it late...unless running against Cram where he knew that he couldn't let Steve take the lead in the last lap or it would be difficult to get by him,
@@musik102 Absolutely. Cram didn't quite have the kick that Coe or Ovett had but was superb at leading from 300m to go and never looking like anyone could pass him.
Yes but he wasn't in Ovetts peak era or Coes. In fact when he was against Coe in '84 he was found wanting. There was no one to touch Ovett 1979-81 and no one to touch Cram in '85. Never mind how good Coe was.
I dont know Cram was looking around 130 metres out..he wouldve known he was 20 metres ahead...and than he waves at the line rather than running through.

@@mathematics5573 3:31 of a 58 first lap just missing the world record by Six tenths is fantastic and it really showed us what CRAM was capable of and he proved it a few days later!!!!! No wonder he had such a phenomenal 1985 season !!!!!! That's what I'm saying!!! What an honour to have witnessed this race and to think it wasn't even a world record attempt!!!! BRILLIANT !!!!!!!! OVETT ⭐ knew his record was dangling by a thread after this performance!
thanks. i once heard cram saying that sometimes athletes go through purple patches, where nothing goes wrong. That refers to races where you feel great all the way and set world records or personal bests. I watched this race live. it was very exciting. He was invicible. Cram could have challenged Hichem EG, the current worlxd record holder.
Cram needed a bullhorn if he wanted to communicate with those behind him. Talk about dominating. I love these classic races sooooo much....thanks.
Looking back now, we almost took it for granted having world class middle distance runners in the UK. What an era!

cram in top form,
what an inspiration.
excellent commentator these days.
What a beautiful, flowing style Cram had. Just effortless. He didn't even look out of breath after crossing the line.
Thanks for posting
If I'm not mistaken, Steve Cram is the only person to have beaten Sebastian Coe, Steve Ovett, Said Aouita, and Joaquim Cruz.
Steve Cram a class act he was.
I remember that. I remember being called into the living room by dad in 1985, and he said , look at this. Cram had just taken off. a few weeks later he ran 3:29.
And of course returned to Bislett a couple of weeks later to break the mile World Record.
When he could get fully free of injuries, Steve Cram was one of the best middle distance runners we've ever seen
Presenter David Ike, what a transformation, blew a fuse at some point!
He was right about convid!
Fantastic run by Cram, under complete control the entire way. Also fun to see David Icke as a commentator.
The BBC filtered out the green tinge appearing on David's neck
Thank you 🤗
Cram in 85 was a class above the very, very best. If only it was an Olympic year.
Steve was such a beautiful looking runner.
Majestetic
Very graceful runner in full flow.
Cram was gangly and awkward like a giraffe. How that can be described as beautiful is beyond me 🤔🤣
@@KryptonitetoallBS And, you I would guess,

cram in his pomp. went on to broke the world record that year in nice.
Donde estaban,José Manuel Abasqual,y José Luis González?
That was a world class field and Cram just annihilated them.
I'd love to find a Nike shirt that Cram wore during his warmups

David Icke, wow!
Don’t think he’s a well man.
Vintage David Icke before he lost his marbles!
Before he was enlightened.

58 first lap???? 3:31,3 finish??? He could've smashed the world record that night definitely!!!!!¡
you try running 3.31!
YOU TRY RUNNING 3:08 FOR 1500 ,,,
I do it all the time. 3.08 is easy for 1500cm
Coleman Storey and Pickering , the holy trinity. Icke wasn't bad either.
Why does the rabbit looks back?
To make sure DRACULA isn't following him !!!!!!¡
This isn't 1985? Cram broke mile record in '85 Bislett Games in 3:46.30
Its an earlier meet in Oslo in 1985. The Dream Mile was later in the summer of 85 and it was an evening meet.
Marici Maths Stuart is right., it was a earlier meeting. 1 week later Cram ran 3.29 and a few days later he ran 3.46.32 for a mile
Majestic. Can you imagine being in this good shape. My childhood hero. I think 1985 was astonishing for Cram.
Crammy was some athlete mind.
The studio presenter is a young David Icke the now famous conspiracy theorist.
Come of someone, break the current world record. 3:26.
No ,

I believe Cram is the real mile WR holder
Really now, why would you say that?
Come of some, break the current world record. 3:26.
It will be broken soon and of course by a kenyan.
