The Groundskeeper!! So close to the end now, sad to see it go but so excited to see how season 1 wraps up!
Thank you all for the support!
Alot of folks in the comments saying dont watch s2 but hey u two are smart, and i believe u like to Make Ur on conclusion and form Ur own opinions. Cheers, greets from Finland.
@@Tero92 I like all three seasons. They just aren’t all created equal.
After watching season 1, season 2 has star power in its cast but doesn't have the same power to command your attention. But you be the judge.
You really should react to V for Vendeta. Excellent acting and story and the scene with Valerie's letter gets me every time.
You guys have issues very judgemental on marty but seem to like the same arsehole rusty.. neither of them are supposed to be likeable characters
Hey your video's are extremely quiet, even when I turn my speakers all the way up. I go to another video after yours without turning my speakers down and basically blow my speakers out, that's how quiet your videos are. Not sure if that's intentional or not, just thought I'd let you know.
Right before Rust talks to the groundskeeper at the school, there's a shot of the schools sign through the fence. It says "School closed until further notice God is working". For a few frames, a fence pole blocks most of the words and letters with "notice king" being visible.
I always learn something new about True Detective, even after all these years. Thanks! Amazing detail!
Whoa, really? I've seen this season a few times now and never noticed that!
Fukunaga is brilliant.
Very observant. I love stuff like that!
"It's the fucking landscaper."
hahaha.
They had their "Jack Ryan moment" like at the end of "The Hunt for Red October" when Jack Ryan says, "It's the God Damn COOK!!!"
@@crigarsha Ha! "Once again, we play our dangerous game."
There is a bit of a stereotype that in many old crime novels (Edgar Wallace, Agatha Christie), the murderer is often the gardener. The German singer songwriter Reinhard May wrote a song about in the 1970s, titled “Der Mörder ist immer der Gärtner” (The murderer is always the gardener) that became quite popular in Germany. The phrase became a bit of a meme in Germany, to the extent that I still have the melody of it stuck in my head, even though I probably haven’t heard the song for 30+ years.
"10 Minutes is all I need to know if someone had done it. How long does it take you."
If Rust had only gotten that 10-minute interview with the lawnmower man back in episode 2. What a world of difference it would have made.
My man Rust only needs that 10 minutes to know something is off. But Marty blew that horn and pulled him away before he got to match wits with the true monster among monsters of this season.
Small correction, it was in episode 3 (not 2). Somebody had commented that there is a pattern with HBO in that there tends to be a clue in the third episode. No idea if this is actually true.
It was the Groundskeeper all along. Re-watching this season is a must, to see with different eyes. Never get bored of watching this, top tier tv.
I knew who the culprit was as soon as I saw the actor.
@@ANWEsuigeneris yeah sure you did
When Rust first talked to the landscaper all those years ago, he had stubbles/a beard and a dirty face; his facial scarring was concealed.
The killer was looking straight and couldn’t really see his scars. Marty honks the horn but as he is turning his head the camera cuts and also Rust turns his head to look at Marty.
He had a beard too
@@Biggiiful yeah so that would hide some of his scars but he had some on his cheek too and his beard was more like a neard but most of his scars would probably be hidden a little.
@@tylerdell1878 ya it was a weak beard but it helped hide them a little bit.
@@Biggiiful yeah
@@Biggiiful that'd be the one unrealistic thing i'd have to pick on because hair follicles can't grow on scar tissue. so unless it was a fake beard, they fumbled on that detail. everything is is sooo good though
Lmao. Your faces when he got off the lawnmower and stepped into the light could be used as a meme, brilliant. That moment of realisation, like wth.
😂😂
Lol, only true evil like that could get off of a lawnmower so theatrically
The last episode is a good ending to a great series, recently Matthew McConaughey has said he would like to return to The character And the world of true detective
The tape scene, where Rust says averting their eyes is how this evil was allowed to survive and grow, and we can't avert our eyes anymore, to look away is to allow it to happen, you have to CHOOSE to SEE the horrors to be able to stop them, is probably one of the most powerful messages ever in a TV show.
As a society we so often choose to just not look, to refuse to SEE the horrible things happening, and therefore pretend it's not happening. Refuse to look away, refuse to pretend out of sight means not happening.
15:06 Samantha "They got us." Don't worry Samantha, they got us all the first time around, it's what makes this series such a good one to rewatch. I also find there are too many names to keep track of, so knowing Reggie Laddu etc the second time around helps you pick up on other things.
Haha thank you! I definitely want to watch again
The boat appearing at the end was a pure, lucky, coincidence. The Director was really happy when it appeared.
Season 1 of True Detective rocks, and the ending of Season 1 is awesome!
@@LeMaqnifique i really love season 2 and don’t understand the hate. I think the only reason a lot of people dislike it is because it’s not season 1. If season 2 came out first I bet it would have been better received.
They’re all so good and so different. I really hope people start reacting to season 2.
In Louisiana, "Parish" does not refer to a church, but rather the local government, like "county" in the rest of the country.
Samantha's "Hello", is the friendliest greeting I have heard.😊. Roll on Friday, look forward to being able to discuss it without spoilers. You have the best reactions. Really enjoyable.
She's adorable.
Aww thank you! ☺️ can’t wait to discuss it Friday!
"How could rust have been so close to him and bot seen the scars?" Even the smartest amongst us can often not see what's right in front of us. Sometimes your so busy looking deep, that it's hard to see the most obvious things sitting in plain sight.
When he first met Rust, Rust was standing to the left of the man on the mower, so he never saw his scars. There was another tell, but it's a spoiler and Rust will explain it himself eventually.
I don't think Audrie's situation was meant to tie into the main mystery of the series. It was only there to show the affects of Marty's inattention to his family.
It was weird tho when u look at the naked drawings she made when she was young it looked like she was drawing the guy with the scars
TBR isn’t late, it’s just the calendar that’s wrong. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it …
Lets goooooo!!!! Too bad we gotta wait until Friday for the finale, but I’m so ready
I’ve wanted to do a binge rewatch of this season since the first ep, but I am enjoying watching it with them too much, so the rewatch will start was soon as I finish the last video!
@@orangewarm1 --I mean, because, "I am enjoying watching it with them too much, so the rewatch will start as soon as I finish the last video!" 🤷🏻♀️
The first time i ever watched this Series, i was on a business trip in Washington D.C., and i was staying at a hotel that had HBO On Demand so i started watching Season 1 at about 9pm on my last night in town.
I binged the first 3 episodes and the power went out in the beginning of the 4th episode, so i went to bed, but all i could think about was the next episode. I missed my morning flight because i wanted to keep watching the rest of the season when i woke up the next morning and the power was back on. The best part was that i have an HBO subscription, i could have easily finished watching the series when i got home.
That's what i love about impactful and well done TV/Movies...they just have the power to engulf you and in this case, all rational thought went out the window.
Keep up the great commentary/reaction. You both are easily Top 5 for me on UA-cam!
I absolutely love Season 1 of True Detective because they had The Yellow King and Carcosa in the plot. As a Cthulhu Mythos lover I couldn't believe it when they mentioned The Yellow King and Carcosa in the show. I was super excited that a high level production like True Detective would have the guts to go that route.
In a way True Detecrive is more Lovecraft Country than the show called Lovecraft Country is.
Just wait until the final episode.
I hate the two other seasons because they are shit.
Why do you believe that Lovecraft Country wasn’t enough Lovecraft?
@@Amberelyse I suppose he thinks like me: it's too campy and deviates a lot from the scope of the cosmic horror genre. Most of the times it's just goofy monsters cgi like it's Jurassic Park.
I'll give that Lovecraft Country had some weird tales touch. But the lovecraftian cosmic horror got lost very quickly. I liked more the books because the humor translated better.
At the end of the day It's just a matter of taste and expectations.
Obviously I´m not going to come out with spoilers, but you´re in for the best season final I´ve ever seen in a TV show. Love your after show analysis, you´re both very smart, attentive watchers, well spoken and with the empathy it takes to "get" a film/ tv show also on an emotional level. Can´t wait for the last episode!
You are supposed to miss him: he was sitting on the lawnmower, so you couldn't tell he was tall, and the beard concealed the scars.
Plus, I mean, it was just a random encounter.
You don't pay so much attention to everyone you meet.
He was surely him placing the wood art inside the abandoned school, probably at the same period he was mowing the lawn when Rust questioned him.
I think the way the scene where Childress and Rust meet. It obscures his scars. I don't think he has a beard. It's just you see him either behind the light or you did like rust and come up to the other side of his face.
Like most classic serial killers. They are the most unnassuming characters.
🤠 My Tuesday night is saved! 👍
.When I originally watched this series with a friend, I said it was the landscaper. He was covered up in grit and dirt the first time you saw him. Rust also went back to that school where the killer was mowing and looked around in the last scene in episode 4 or 5. You loved the lighting in that scene but missed the clue of where he actually was.
One episode left. Here comes the finale 😪
I said it too.I remember when he showed up near that school,i said "Why did director or writer put this random character here,he didn't bring anything to the story, apart from making main character not get into the school - and if he ever comes back,he is definitely a man they're looking for"
We are still waiting the answer this shows biggest mystery......What happened to Ginger?!?! I imagine he's still tied up in a ditch 17 years later.
This is your best reaction to date. Love the show and love your discussions of it. Check out some of the photos of the Mardi Gras riders in the early-mid 1900s.
❤️
Great reaction to the revelation of the groundskeeper, that was awesome and really shows how great this season of TV can get!
I've watched this season from beginning to end maybe 5 times, and every time I catch new things. Just an amazing piece of work.
So it's finally here. Sam and TBR come face to face with the lawnmower man. And remember, " Him and his family been here in these parts a long, long time." Next episode Sam, your leg gonna be shaking like a branch in a hurricane. Hold tight. The showdown is at hand.
WOW.
It's definitely McConaughey in the intro but to me it looks like Tommy Lee Jones lol
This reveal was brilliant television. Jaw-drop moment there for me when he stood up so fast and we saw his real height. The thing is, when he's politely giving directions, he has the late afternoon sun behind him, obscuring his face a little so we can't see his skin completely. And when they drive away and he starts talking (in a slightly different, almost ominous way-- albeit still deep voiced) and that warped music box tune is heard .... superb stuff. And then as the camera pulls back, we see that he mows the grass in concentric or spiraling circles. I look forward to watching this season again; it's too good to watch just one time.
You two recently watched two of the best tv material ever produced: Chernobyl and the 1st season of True Detective.
When we first see the scarred guy, the camera is on the other side of his face & he had a light beard/stubble.
This season is a great re-watch to notice the things the viewer now knows.
That story from Marty about the drug addict trying to dry the baby in the microwave, is absolutely horrific.
This series always reminds me of that absolutely horrific case, where this father drugged his daughter with LSD, and up some point the father faked him passing out. And this audio started to play, which was like Aliens or sum shit like that, speaking to the drugged out girl, that she must have sex with his father in order to save the earth or something like that. And ofc poor girl was so freaked out and scared that the father was able to, get his way with her. Unfukin real how much and what type of evil is in some people.
Edit. And yeah the daughter was no addult or not even a late teen. A little girl.
Lawnmower/ Man with scars is such a vicious monster.
The lawnmower man hides in plain sight. That's why no one can remember him. He looks plain like a blade of poison ivy. Until you brush up against him. THen, he's a face you'll never forget. If you live to see another face.
That reveal is epic.
It's been a fun rewatch! Season 1 is the best.
Been waiting all day for this
'After You've Gone' is the episode that got me seriously watching True Detective. "I've got a car battery and two jumper cables that argue different" - Rust/Matthew McConaughey was what impressed me. I had no idea that McConaughey had that level of screen 'presence'. Once I watched this episode, I went back and paid complete attention to the 1st season.
Childress is the name to watch for. Sheriff Teddy Childress was the one who told the story or Marie Fontenot gong to her brith fathers, when that obviously wasn't the case. And then Officer Childress was the one guarding the cell when the prisoner who had info on the Yellow King supposedly killed himself. Episode brings it all together.
I hope the Schmitts get the significance of all those who were waiting for this. I was one of those and, in fact, one of the first things I thought of when I got out of bed Tuesday was "Oh boy, tonight's a new episode of the Schmitts reacting to True Detective!"
Worth waiting for, too! Now, I'm sad that we're heading into the last episode, sigh.
Hey, really enjoy following your train of thought through True Detective. I feel like you two need to dive deeper into the „PI-business“ as well and set up a whiteboard in the background. Following family trees and names as you dive into new material 😉 Keep up your investigation 🙋♂️
You only saw one side of his face the other time, and it was quick, because Rust immediately had to leave when his partner honked the horn.
I think the way the scene where Childress and Rust meet. It obscures his scars. I don't think he has a beard. It's just you see him either behind the light or you did like rust and come up to the other side of his face.
Like most classic serial killers. They are the most unassuming characters.
What a way to start a day! That reveal reaction tho 😂 TBR being analytic about the boat at the end, the story made him paranoid, ha!
Honestly guys, I have been down for a couple of days and this series came up in my recommended, safe to say I loved every second of it and you have a fan ☺
I know you're really appreciating HBO's content. No one ever seems to react to John Adams, about the founding of the United States. It's fantastic, and holds it's own against the other great HBO mini series.
I clocked on that it was the lawnmower guy first time I saw him. But reading comments on UA-cam and reddit, it seems most people didn't notice anything about him. I just got lucky it seems. He looked like that weird drawing to me. And why was he mowing the lawn of a closed down school? Made no sense. But definitely watch that scene again if you haven't already, so many alarm bells went off with him for me.
I slugged through Season 2 out of a sense of duty but - and I am aware this is not a popular opinion - I loved Season 3 very nearly as much as this one.
Best villain reveal ever. Anyone who says they suspected him when they forst saw him is 100% lying.
I recommend reading, (you can get it on audible too if you’re on there,) The King In Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, (pretty much a series of vignettes, easy read,) after watching this series, BUT don’t expect it to answer any questions.
HOW is there no reaction to when Rust watched the tape and his screams/reaction to it? That has to be one of the best/most horrifying moments in TD!
Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel.
you see the murderer twice but still cant recognize him at first place,it can really explain why the guy hides so well lol
Been waiting for this one!
It's getting better and better 🙂
He did have a summer beard. Summer here and summer there. But if you paid attention you would have caught the scars. I did but then so much time past I forgot about him and didnt recognize him. Lol
The yellow king and Caucosa? are from a famous book written many years ago, just can't remember the name of it.
I was looking forward to the penny dropping on Lawnmower spaghetti face, he was right under everyone's nose and it's fun to watch people breeze past him like he's a one scene part with a big smile on my face knowing what's coming later. Hope you both really enjoy the finale.
This might be my favourite of all you guys videos, huge fan of the show and to watch u guys go through this journey has been excellent, can't wait to watch u both check out the finale 😀
The name Childress came up. Remember the two cops who paid a visit to the guy who killed himself in the jailcell? One of them was officer Childress.
You might also notice something in the first scene when they meet the landscaper, if you look around hard enough :p
I may be wrong but I think the description of a man with scars came out after Rust talked to him at the school. It explains why he "missed" it because he didn't even know about the scars just that it was a big man.
A great show and episode which finishes with a Townes van Zandt song. Can't get any better! 'In Bruges' is my recommendation for a Film to watch. Funny, dramatic & emotional. Great reaction you two 😊
It's really bittersweet this was only 8 episodes. It truly is a perfect season of television though and very few other shows are in that ranking. Fargo being one of them.
The boat you see in the last scene is a tug, not the leisure boat you see them on in the previous scene--it's there for "Louisiana flavour" I guess.
Im pretty sure that when we first saw the landscraper we only saw his left side of his face, thats why nobody saw the scars, im might be wrong tho.
The whole animal theme with that insane cult is creepy af.
Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce the concept of 'Plausible deniability'. For a more in depth explanation, view an old episode of SG1 called 'Wormhole Xtreme', which explains the thing while also being an exercise in the thing itself.
Ms Maxwell was sent to prison for providing girls to absolutely nobody at all ....
I really wish they'd create more True Detectives. I don't mind the second and third TD seasons. However, the bar was set so high with the first one.
If they ever do another, who do you think would be good cast? I'd like to see a more female duo, like Cagney and Lacey or going down a route like The Departed.
Great review, and I cannot wait for your finale reaction.
Cool channel. Intelligent reactions without any cringe. 😁
When Rust spoke to him earlier, he had a 5 o'clock shadow and dirty face.
In the first time, there's a sing that says "god is within us" but is very subtle
Thanks guys
I always thought the kids thought he had green ears because of the green ear defenders, but maybe it was the paint.
Don't know if you guys are going to watch S2/3 - but still, I highly recommend The Wire to you. You'll love it, promise :-)
Keep on the good work and stay healty guys, great reaction as always!
RECOMMEND TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES!!! AMAZING SERIES!!!!
Wait till you rewatch Rust talk to the landscaper, you’re going to trip out!
Hi I know what I’ve been away for a while satisfied with you reacting to Candyman but I’ve mostly just been collecting movies for you to watch here are some that I think you might enjoy
1.Nightmare on elm street.(I can’t be the first to recommend this)(I recommend watching 1 and 3 together because they constant characters other then Freddy)
2.The original Evil dead and the 2013 remake.(Warning it used over 70,000 gallons of fake blood).(The second doesn’t adhere to continuity and the third is comedy)
3. Re-animator it’s great.I highly recommend.(no confusing order to watch in)
Huge fan of the show this episode was powerful love your channel
People have their opinions but I can assure you True Detective season 3 is good. Two is really bad because they changed the format to a traditional show with multiple directors (lacking a cohesive vision). It was so badly received they went back to the one director one writer format of the first season with season 3. As far a the story itself 3 comes at it from a fresh and different direction that I feel is just as heavy and interesting as the first exemplifying the episodic pulp origins the series is based upon.
Correction, multiple directors but same writer. I still stand by my opinion ;)
"and multiple writers." Wrong. Nic Pizzolatto wrote all 8 episodes in season 2 and Scott Lasser helped him with only two episodes.
Stop imposing your biases on others. Let them watch and decide for themselves.
Season 2 was great. Season 3 was pretty good.
@@icholas1527 I liked season two but when you compare it to season one it doesn’t hold a candle and that’s what people do which is dumb because season one is one of the greatest seasons of any television show.
@@icholas1527 I like season 3. It's more like season 1, but not quite on the same level. Season 2 was also good, but pretty much the only things I remember from it is that really cool shootout scene and this weird desert scene^^
The elderly black lady was reacting to drawings of religious icons with Voudon influences. Hence, the cultish feel.
He had facial hair, the first time we seen him..........
u already saw the yellow king multiple times. I was actually surprised how little u commented on him when u saw him last time :D just a little hint ... yellow tie
I would say True Detective 3 lives up to the first season
He did have facial hair in the first encounter with Russ.
I enjoyed season 2, it is very different, and not as sublime, but that doesn't make it bad. Colin Farrel is great in it.
Great reaction like always. Hope you guys do Fargo too after this, I promise you won't regret. Its nearly as good as TD.
When i saw this episeode when 1st came out that video or idea of it f'ed me up that night
the gardener's face was dirty with grass in the scene with Rust..he had goggles on that he took off and the bottom of his face was dirty
I love the reveal at the end of this episode.
When I first saw this, I jokingly said its probably that guy, the first time we see him.
Have you guys seen parasite yet? If not, I'd love to see a reaction!
It's the landscaper lol
Great reaction as always. Looking forward to the season finale.
Dang I forgot how good this show was
Love this show, not hoping this happens to anyone though
Justed watched the episode, there's a h.p.love craft silent theme to the storyline
Rust almost figured it out, then Marty honked the horn pull Rust away.
