The Palace of the Marquess of Fronteira is located in Lisbon, Portugal.
Today, the palace remains the private property of the descendants of the first Marquis of Fronteira, but some of its rooms and the garden are open to the public. The interior of the palace can be viewed with a guide, in Portuguese, Spanish and English. (but unfortunately, video about photography inside the palace is not allowed)
The construction of the estate originated in the 16th century, originally there was a hunting house. Construction work took place from 1670 to 1673. The first owner was Joao de Mascarenash. This man was a Portuguese nobleman and soldier. João received the title of First Marquis of Fronteira from King Afonso IV of Portugal in gratitude for his faithful service.
An interesting feature of the palace is its gardens. The gardens were created in accordance with the tradition of the Portuguese gardens of the 18th century and are a real oasis in the bustle of the city. The gardens are decorated with fountains, statues, flower beds and pavilions. Azulejo tiles have a special place.
The facade of the chapel, created at the end of the 16th century and restored in the 18th century, is uniquely beautiful. It is decorated with shells, azulejo tiles from the 17th century, and chinaware.
