Shonu Damey, or Unrivaled Youth, is a classic Tibetan literary work written in 1718 by Dho-Kharwa Tsering Wangyal, a poet, writer, and politician. It reflects the social upheavals of 18th-century Central Tibet, and its literary style has had a profound impact on the works of later generations of Tibetan poets, writers, and intellectuals. Boston-based Tibetan poet and writer Kelsang Lhamo will discuss the unique characteristics of Shonu Damey, exploring why Tibetans continue to read the book and seek to imitate its writing style.
