Roger Ebert's effect on film is immeasurable. Between his profoundly moving, insightful and evaluative film criticism through reviews, books and television, to his commitment to supporting and campaigning independent filmmakers and being one of the best lovers of movies - nothing could ever conceivably replace him in the world of cinema. He was a defiant fighter and survivor of cancer for many years, for that he should be applauded as well.

Roger Ebert demonstrated extraordinary courage in facing his cancer that caused disfigurement and the loss of his ability to speak, by rising above his disabilities and continuing his career with bravery and good spirits. He genuinely loved the movies, he left a legacy of perceptive and well written books about classic movies and a wife to whom he was devoted and who loved him and supported him. He dealt with a devastating situation with dignity and strength of character.

Still can´t believe he´s gone. Went to his website this last weekend to check his new reviews. I´m pretty sure you can have an "out of body experience" reading a book too, or listening to Pink Floyd, but that´s not the point. My point is that Roger loved films as no one else.

Ebert's voice sounds far different from how it did for decades. Was this perhaps during his battle with cancer that led to his jaw surgeries?
