As a train operator for a major METRO transportation authority my question is why the train operator decided it was cool to service the station when they could see there was police activity on the platform. Granted I'm not familiar with the NYC signal system, and maybe every station has police activity in New York, but if that was my train I would have bypassed the station and told the control center why I did so. NYPD here. Police presence is common, and so are police interactions with yelling back and forth....so he'd of have to of seen the guns drawn or knife. For something to be out of the norm.
Exactly the same with mine, I also work on a public train network and there’s typical procedure if there’s something happening on the platform, if possible LEs will stop before the platform or go past just enough to be safe from the platform, but maybe it’s different for NYC maybe the comms aren’t as good so they can’t just shutdown the whole network at a flick of a button like mine.
That makes.me mad...cops are pussy footing around killers because they are either unaware of reality or more afraid of looking bad at court...may cost their lives.
First they had to think about their already barely standing image, then of their lives. 'S what happens when half the population is insane and the rest is high. And they all have some self-righteous agenda with a justice boner based on their dr*g-induced fantasy.

My opinion- both officers using non-lethal is ridiculous. They could have used lethal when the guy exited the train and not hit any bystanders. Also. Wtf was that limp wristed hold the second officer had. NYPD Definitely need better training
Action should have been take much sooner, to avoid precisely what happened. This whole pussy-footin' around with tasers and 'strong words' for 10-15 minutes before putting this guy down is law enforcement at its worst.
Problem is its NY... They are not allowed to do crap until they are being attacked at a high level. They had no good answer except walk away which many do in such blue areas..
Cop walked within feet of the guy with taser probes that inadequately hit their target. That really surprised me I guess they didn't watch the bodycam from the officer kia in Las cruzes
I was gonna say something like this, Why did they waste so much time talking instead of getting the weapon away from him? In my opinion these officers should have body-blocked the suspect from the train cars, despite the knife. If they cant go hand-to-hand with a regular joe with a knife, I dont feel like theyre adequately trained to protect people. Im not asking for military level discipline and training, although that WOULD BE NICE. But honestly, if a guy with just a knife can weedle his way through 2 cops and get a scuffle to that level of chaos where when they DO draw their weapons, other people are now in danger? They let the suspect have too much freedom of movement and in this context, they really shouldve brought this guy to the floor asap. It was clear enough if they saw the knife, no gun. Just... looking at what happened, and hindsight is always 2020.. But wouldnt it have been justified this time, to rush the guy and deck him in the face, and wrestle the knife from him? He was clearly being erratic and uncooperative. Clearly a danger. And they let that danger go unchecked.... If I couldve been the cop, I wouldve tried my best to use the least force, but AT LEAST use NECESSARY force... like.. incapacitating an active and immediate threat. They made a mistake letting him by the train doors. They were backing him down the platform.. couldnt keep going? They were scared of the damned knife. If they had confidence they could beat the suspect in hand-to-knife combat, then they wouldnt have manuevered in such a way to endanger others. They would have forced the man to either submit or lash out, in which case they should have been able to subdue him. Any cop that cant subdue a robber with a knife isnt really a good cop, dont you think?
Attempted aggravated assault??? Wtf. He was charging a l.e.o. With a knife. That’s at least attempted murder. So tired of this bullshit, may as well have issued him a ticket for j walking.

The fact that the cops had to tell people to move out of the way is evidence of the level of stupidity we have in this country. It fully sucks that any innocent person was struck, but they were out of options. They tried the ticklers with no success and if they let him go on the train and he starts stabbing people wildly ,the cops would be under the same level hate for them. Its a no win situation.

I’m a retired LEO and former Glock armorer. One problem I might suggest is the “New York” trigger in their guns. 12+ lbs of trigger pull?!?! And it kinda hurts your trigger finger. I think it would take tons of training to master that beast! That trigger pull can cause an untrained person to jerk a trigger.
Wow! I did not know this. Supposedly it forces right handed shooters to shoot low and left. Rewatching the footage their guns do appear to be shooting way more out of control than I expect.
@@thespencerowen It’s crazy trigger pull. Then the trigger slams back into your depressed finger with a snap! It actually hurts. Glock makes like 4 trigger disconnects, from what I remember. 3,5,8, and 12. 12 was specifically built for NYPD. That’s why they call it the “NY” trigger. However, the trigger pulls are higher than rated. So a 12 lb trigger is more like 14lbs.
Both of the NY triggers in glock's were garbage and I also agree that they probably led to a lot of negligent hits and misses. But I was just in Glock armorer school and the word was NYPD has been phasing out that trigger for a while and going to factory glock triggers.
You don't understand NYC - jumping turnstiles and having knives is not a punishable offense. It means you are under some stress and not responsible for your actions because you are downtrodden by the man and you don't know better.
@@samuelbutterworth4303Maybe you don't understand NYC, pulling a knife and threatening to kill people is illegal and punishable, regardless of what you've heard
What in the hell kind of training is NYPD doing, that was the worse officer reaction I have ever seen. both had tasers out no lethal cover, let him on the train with a edged weapon, then get into a cross fire with each other, shoot into a backstop of people on the train, WTF !
People are way too relaxed around firearms/weapons. I see a dude with a knife in an enclosed space with cops drawing on him, I'm already 10 steps the other way. I'm not sitting in my seat spectating.
I'm just thinking that if I'm out and about i usually have my kids and no way am I sitting in a train with 2 cops, drawn, at a guy with a knife... going... oh look!
This escalated into a much more dangerous situation because the cops were hesitant and (understandably) afraid of being scapegoated for shooting a black man, and because of that innocent people got shot.

He picked up his radio with his other hand. do you have 3 arms? can you pick up something on the ground with the 3rd hand well the other two are holding a pistol?
The problem is that the officers didn't use more force and were not aggressive at the beginning. They hesitated to draw their weapons, which put themselves and everyone else at greater risk. I blame the city for putting them in a lose-lose situation by not empowering them to do their job.
Lose lose is right. They don't shoot and he stabs and innocent person "why didnt the cops stop him?!", they be proactive and stop him from possibly harming innocent people "why didn't they de-escalate?!"
Got to try and deescalate can’t go gun hoe and go full aggressive without someone being mad and can’t try to de escalate without people getting mad too
I've seen countless examples of US Police officers with insufficient firearms training. British Police and many other European Police train firearms officers specifically for that role and they train frequently. The difference in standards shows a lot.
First off he wouldn't listen, then they tried to taze him twice but it didn't work, then when less lethal options didn't work and he still wouldn't drop the knife they had no other options but use lethal force.
Doesn’t mean a civilian had to die/nearly die for it. They’re cops. You’re supposed to train for these situations. It is evident they failed both at training and in reality.
Close Combative Training - Based on the situations that Law Enforcement have historically have encountered. Confidence in CQ conditions enables the individual to act accordingly and properly “Handle” the situation.
This whole situation was absolutely weird. From the suspect being weird in general, to the officer with dark hair (no glasses) being so freakishly calm and casual about shooting the suspect. Then the guy who concealed the knife. In 2017 I was attacked on my front porch by a woman who was hiding a knife behind her back. Thankfully, when my mother pepper sprayed her she dropped the knife and I was not stabbed. A massive amount of people mobbed around our building afterward, and the knife was never located. I would have had much more legal protection than I did, if people had not concealed the knife. I was not able to get a protective order initially and to spend two weeks fighting for one while the court just let her waltz right into our building to visit someone who she had no relation to. You are not helping anyone by concealing evidence!!!
@@djharris6822 It's hard to explain this... there was no sound reason but it was a planned attack. She had relations with a member of a gang, and that gang member's girlfriend didn't like my mother and I. Again, for no reason.

They're scared of getting thrown under the bus by the city or their department if the situation isn't 100% necessary. It's New York, not Texas. The last 4-6 years haven't been lovely for police unfortunately, especially in blue states and cities...
They were trying to de escalate the situation remember during the blm riots people were mad at cops for going aggressive when the situation called it that what it looks like
Exactly "what could they have done" ANYTHING BESIDES NOTHING AND LETTING HIM GET ON THE TRAIN, then having storm trooper aim from less than 10' away on top of it. Of course people want to defund the police, they obviously aren't spending the money on training or hiring standards.
Bail!!!????? It sucks because these officers seemed to be genuinely good officers who did what they could to deescalate. However, as you correctly stated, ALL gun owners are responsible for every round that leaves their gun and I don't think this standard shouldn't also apply to cops the same as it would apply to a citizen in a self defense scenario.
I wonder if the people saying the cops handled this poorly are the same that cry "brutality" or "racism" as well. Had the cops gotten aggressive sooner in a safer area, they'd have gotten flack too. Maybe more less-than-lethal or social workers could have helped? I hope the 49-year old recovers and the person who took the gun gets charged with obstruction of justice.
Nope, I'm saying they handled it poorly. They were poorly trained and it's obvious what happens when you bleed the best out of that state because you don't support your LEOs. These are the guys that are left behind. Fortunately for the states who do support their LEOs, they have a pretty good chance at getting some really good officers.

But then you have all the non lethal de-escalation crowd saying they should have disarmed him they can't win
NYC would go crazy if they tased him smfh
I was gonna say something like this,
Why did they waste so much time talking instead of getting the weapon away from him?

I think it would take tons of training to master that beast! That trigger pull can cause an untrained person to jerk a trigger.
Wow! I did not know this. Supposedly it forces right handed shooters to shoot low and left.
Rewatching the footage their guns do appear to be shooting way more out of control than I expect.
@@thespencerowen It’s crazy trigger pull. Then the trigger slams back into your depressed finger with a snap! It actually hurts. However, the trigger pulls are higher than rated. So a 12 lb trigger is more like 14lbs.

One handed shooting a Glock with a 12 pound trigger, so you can retain a taser, is next level incompetence.
I agree but I don't blame them for not being trained properly, defund the police has consequences!
Yeah I had an issue with this also. At that distance, you really should not miss a target of any size even during a high speed mag-dump.
Homie watched too many movies.

The guy who took the knife probably didn't want to see "a brotha" get charged with a crime he's certainly guilty of.
Of course. Who wants a cheap azz knife as a 'souvenir' ?

If they woulda fired before he charged em people would be pissed they shot a black guy and by waiting so long they got bystanders involved
Yeah, that's the problem with instituting a racial caste system, it's something that was figured out centuries ago in most places but they want it back for whatever reason.

I think those were the Harbor Freight discount tasers.
How does a suspect survive something like that. Wow!
I absolutely love the It’s Always Sunny clips inserted within the video 😂
That show is so funny!! ❤🐧🏒
Bystanders got hurt because of police "deescalation" policy. They allowed him to be in proximity of others running around all over the place with a weapon and obviously they didn't have good weapons training. Come on people. You're supposed to be cops, not therapists. Subdue the threat.
Yeah. That and the cop that shot was doing so one handed. Sure, if that was before the train got there and the wall was behind him. But shooting towards the train!? Boy, get your support hand involved, wtf lol. You got multiple people shot because you wanted to be a cowboy after already bungling the situation completely.
Hard to educate good cops with all the "defund the police" crap you know.
Subdue the threat!

i tried reading your comment but all i see is "MURICA"
you should see how the cops in the netherlands handle buisness. it's 99% deëscalation. but guess what. IT ACTUALLY WORKS.
probbably because people don't have the intelligence of a fishstick over here.
but also because cops are trained for 3 to 6 years. rather than 3 to 6 WEEKS.
Everyone is an expert. You ever had a human on the other end of your gun? I'm sure you would handle it perfectly right?
This whole situation is ridiculous. There needs to be serious actions for people tampering with evidence in a situation like this

That's why the cops both had tasers out first but he gave the cops very little choice.

I'm still going through school to be a specialized investigator, but I must say that I have a greater appreciation for your videos after I learned about things like Tennessee v. Garner and so forth during my studies. I feel like this kind of stuff should be included in more basic education, but I guess that's wishful thinking, since our public schooling system can be so abysmal with the curriculum it already has.
Pelvic shots downward may have been the move. They hit the floor fast.
I bet this guy was a good future astronaut who just graduated from 5th grade and had his whole life as a medical doctor and holder of a PhD in physics ahead of him whose life was tragically ended early by bad police brutality. This a tough one. Tough spot for the cops. Dude is charging you with a knife you have to be able to defend yourself. At the same time you have to know your surroundings and where those those rounds are going to end up when you discharge your weapon. Having to do both of those things at the same time can sometimes be nearly impossible. Dammed if you do dammed if you dont. Tough call and tough situation. Ultimately though, the jackass with the knife is the one that put them all in that situation.
