I think the thief might come in handy with the pathfinding and seamanship if you have to sail with your army at some point. And useful that you got the sunmon ship spell too. If you can give her nature magic it will be awesome

It should be possible once I reach the Life towns. And yes, pathfinding would be extremely useful.

I wouldn't call the nomad ability combo useless. First strike still works if someone attacks nomads so they attack first in retaliation.
