  • For a list of 50+ popular activities you can use for teaching ESL and to get your students practicing a second language, check out our helpful guide called "Fun Activities for Teaching English": citizenstesol.org/fun-activities
    High-quality lessons can take a lot of time to plan! This is something that many teachers (and TESOL trainees) are very familiar with. And the lesson plans that you will design for your TESOL course are no exception-they will test your patience, resilience, and creativity. But one of the takeaways we want you to get from this lesson is some of our best advice on how to quickly and easily design good lessons for your students. So, before we get into all the details that come with lesson planning, we want to give you a simple framework called PPP that you can use to organize your lessons from beginning to end.
    We recommend starting with PPP because it follows a natural and predictable order that most of us are familiar with (first, the teacher "teaches," and then the students "practice"). But after you have practiced designing this kind of lesson, we will also recommend other frameworks you can use that are different than PPP. Having a framework like these for organizing your lessons will make your lesson planning process much more efficient and it will help you get the most out of the time you spend getting ready for your next class.
    In the next video, Andy walks us through the 3 P's and the 2 W's, and how they fit together to make a quick-and-easy lesson.
    Citizens of Hope is a community of teachers bringing hope to the world through TESOL-which stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

    Speaking from experience and as a CELTA grad, that's how I do my lesson planning; by notebook (the old school paper version). The only time I use a template is when one is required of me or if there's a plan on that template. Depending on the lesson, I might borrow from previous plans, go by the subject theme, or go by the end production result and work backwards. Thank you very much for your videos. I can definitely relate to that teacher.

    Thank You For Taking The "Time" To Show The Genuine Part. I should have been an Architect, after 30 yrs and a Project Manager switching from instructing those without English to Teaching ESL. I had a cringe feeling of grammar; my school yrs of being graded from A to C for penmanship which blocked all grammar retention, why put my heart into a C! Watching you at your table, is exactly how I used to as a PM. Your slow, simple, demonstrating not follow material, use it as you prepare to lead your class and then the 20-minute lesson plan bridged my uncertainty in seeing the paralleled similarities, a huge blessing. Thanks!

      @CitizensofHope  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for sharing your personal story with us! That really means a lot to us. "Why put your heart into a C!?"...you've summed up a lot of the reason for why we teachers do what we do, and you've inspired me with your simple words to always strive to do better...and to help students see their value, not in their grades or how well they do on a test, but in who God made them to be...beautiful, smart, creative, wonderful people.
      Blessings to you, my friend.

    Hi there! As a Tech-Edu enthusiast, I found your video on using PPP lessons for teaching English insightful. It's great to see how you break down the lesson-planning process and emphasize the importance of engaging students throughout. I'm curious, have you explored any innovative technology tools or platforms that enhance the PPP approach and make English language learning even more interactive? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

    You know I’m also a teacher and I feel passionate about teaching and I do think it’s important to prepare a lesson but I also have to say that I have my lesson plan in my head. I know what subject to start with and how to teach it.
    I teach online and I use different materials that I have ready on my computer (worksheets, board games, etc).
    So what I want to say is that I don’t spend a lot of time on doing my lesson plan, if something goes wrong during the lesson I try to change and fix it immediately and all the parents like my teaching style, they think I’m always well prepared, but I’m not.
    I don’t like to do lesson plans because 1st: it takes a lot of time away and 2nd the lesson or the activities you will do during the lesson will almost always be different anyways - your lesson or how you’re going to conduct your lesson will all depend on your students' mood and also if they need more time to understand a subject before moving on to the next.

    • @CitizensofHope
      @CitizensofHope  3 роки тому

      This is an awesome perspective, Alexandra! I agree that lesson planning takes up so much time for teachers and that at the end of the day you really need to be super flexible anyways. I think that it's helpful for new teachers to have a basic foundation for lesson planning as they get started, but that it's super normal to switch later to creating simple outlines for your day (or using another much simpler way to plan your day) instead of having an intensive lesson planning process.
      I hope that PPP and simple frameworks like this will work for both types of teachers: those who need to intensively plan their lessons, as well as teachers like you who are ready for anything and excellent at "playing jazz" as we like to say in our TESOL.
      I love your posts! Thanks for sharing...Cheers!

    This is what we do in martial arts classes, precisely. First we warm up, then the coach teaches the new technique, after that we practice the new technique and nothing else, and finally we free spar.

    Hello! 🙋🏻‍♀️
    Could you please tell me what would be the best warm up activity when teaching activities? (Sliding, swinging, singing, etc.)
    THANKS IN ADVANCE! 💜

      Hi Ana! We have a good list of 50+ popular activities you can use for teaching ESL and to get your students practicing a second language, including a bunch of Warm Up activities on PAGE 12... check out that helpful guide: "Fun Activities for Teaching English" - citizenstesol.org/fun-activities
      Do you have any other questions about Warm Ups that I can help you with? Sliding, swinging, and singing sound like lots of fun!!! ...I'd love to hear which of those have been your favorite.
      Blessings, -Andy
