    I have ALWAYS wanted to build a full size Optimus Prime. But how big is he REALLY? This time I worked on figuring that out, as well as making a comfortable helmet to wear trick-or-treating with my kids this year!

    AMAZING! I want to make one so bad now! I was thinking about window screen mesh as an option for the eye holes, but that needlework mesh looks perfect. Also that outro with you doing your everyday tasks wearing that helmet made me laugh so hard! Great work! Enjoyed this one a lot!

    I love this build, and would definitely like to see more props and costume builds. Since you have an R2, maybe you could do an X-Wing pilot, or you could expand on the Transformers theme and make a full EVA foam build,

    Considering all of the changes, or perhaps the changes not withstanding at ILTMS as of late, somehow or another this has the vibe of one of your videos from way back. The lightsaber video from 6 years ago, when your face lights up when you turn on the LEDs for the first time…this video reminds me of your energy from that moment. I’ve always remembered that moment as one of genuine joy from creation. That’s why I watch. ☮️

    I know this was a quick, inexpensive build that you're going to use for Halloween then probably never use ever again. But in the future, if you ever build anything out of cardboard, check out Seans Crafts. He's like a master cardboard builder for helmets. Give you ideas how to seal cardboard, make it durable and paintable to make it glossy and stuff.

    In hindsight foam might have been the better choice over cardboard. It is just as light, doesn't have the corrugated edges to hide, and a ton of cosplayers have already figured out most of the tricks and traps of using it, so there is a wealth of advice out there to guide. Either way, it looks fantastic, and now I want to do a battle damaged version! Kind of like a decepticon trophy mount!

  • @reallunacy
    @reallunacy 8 місяців тому

    This was really cool. I haven't done anything like this, but my first thought was to use painters tape to seal up those gaps in the corrugation before you seal it. After you mentioning the issue with moisture from the mod podge you could actually wrap the entire thing in painter's tape, then mod podge it to seal it.

    I used Pepakur/papercraft when I made my first Ironman suit out of floor foam mats. I still build costumes out of foam as well as 3d printing. To scale this I would have done this except used foam. But for card board, Resin is your best option, car fiber glass and resin.
