I am so happy that I found your video on this subject...my shoulder was doing the same thing and I had to find another way to keep my love of Reborns going
I use to do reborning. But a couple years ago I started getting numbness and pain in my right hand. Makes any crafting, or artwork very difficult. I became very depressed as I'm a very creative person and need an outlet for that. I boxed the kits I had left and stopped reborning. But I got them out 3 days ago. All my supplies, and decided I should finish them. I'm a wobbly mess and they aren't near as good as I use to be able to do. But I'm just giving them to my daughter, she doesn't mind. I take frequent breaks and I'm dreading rooting hair. So I'm gonna try painting it, for the first time.
I’m the same way - I get depressed if I don’t have a creative outlet. I started rooting again in September which was a big mistake, causing pain in my shoulders and hands. Now I’m determined to learn hair painting and have been practicing every day. Prismas are an excellent way to start, and learn hair movement without the additional challenges of brushes and paint consistency. I’m happy to hear that you’re giving it a go! Let me know if you need any help at michellebelle100@yahoo.com.

Great Tutorial! You are a very good teacher. Thank you for making this video. Please make more. As a brand new artist in much need of these types of videos
You did a beautiful job on the hair❤️. I love it. I think this is the first really easy looking tutorial because you explain and go into detail about what you are doing🦋❤️
You do beautiful work. The arthritis I have is most prevalent in my hands. They currently about 80 - 90% disabled. Has any doctor ever told you that the way you hold your crafting tools may be contributing to your discomfort? Also using modified, cushioned pencil adapters that are available for extra hand comfort can help. Hope you're feeling better.
Thank you. I actually brought a doll head and an (needle-less) rooting tool into physical therapy for advice. I don’t seem to have any pain these days now that I’m painting hair
Thank you so very much I have been searching and searching for a hair tutorial that I can see and I finally found yours. What an awesome job that you do. Keep up the good work. Thanks and God bless 🙏
Thankyou so much for this. Just what I was looking for. I just finished my baby and I’m so impressed with myself after following your tutorial. What colour pencils would you suggest the best. I’ve got most of the prismacolour browns. What colour would you use for fair/blonde.
So glad it was helpful! I like a mix of beige and white for blonde hair. I seal over the prisma color beige (because it’s not a verithin it gets goopy if it’s built up too much) and use white to go over mostly just the Y shapes.
Thank you so much for replying to my comment that means a lot to me. I love watching your video over and over. I am new at this and are still learning on my own , oh well now I have your help. The thing I still can’t get is the rooting hair. I tried mohair and I really don’t like it. Synthetic hair I can’t cut or place right. I drew my rooting map and well it doesn’t look pretty. That’s why I saw your video on pencil hair and loved it. Can you tell me what is the best way to root hair and the hair that is close to human hair that would work? Oh and do you use multiple colors for pencil hair to make it look so gorgeous?
I usually use just one color, and use less or more pressure to make it darker or lighter. Mohair is softer for babies (I like hp baby locks best), but human hair is often used for toddlers. Just be sure to take frequent breaks! I’m still dealing with tendonosis from “powering through” some rooting sessions in September
If it’s prisma, you can seal it right after drawing it. If it’s paint, it would depend on the kind of paint you’re using, but for Ultimate Fusion paint it’s 72 hours to cure
on goodness it looks like real hair.beatiful. I want to try to paint a reborn but I'm afraid to ruin it. so can a person get a cheaper kit to begin with.ty.
Thankyou for this tutorial. I sed genisis heat set paint. I think it will be textured enough for the pencil to show up, but should I seal over it to keep it in place. So it doesn't wear off with cloth changing etc?
I love your video and your dolls. Your a great teacher. Do you have painting tutorials for air dry paints? I would like to learn more. Links to supplies? I can't find the air dry medium sealer you used.
Thanks! I don’t have a hair painting tutorial yet, but I’d like to make one with Ultimate Fusion paint. The medium is rebornfx sealer, sold by macpherson craft here: macphersoncrafts.com/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/reborn-fx-air-sealer.htm
I don’t have the book either, but I just use the paints in order, dark to light. Also, Christine Woolley has a UA-cam channel with some demonstration videos 🙂
I would go over any areas that don’t stick with rebornfx sealer pounced on without any water on the sponge. And then pounce on the sealer again after drawing with the pencils to seal your work. Let dry 2 days and then matte varnish after that.
So this is what to use to seal my prism pencil hair on my reborn doll? I heard a heat set varnish works but I am new so I feel lost. I don’t bake my reborn dolls .. I love prism pencil hair and I want to seal it right. I reborn dolls on vinyl with acrylic air born paints… help please
Hi, I have the same pencils but for some reason the pencil won't work on the doll? Sometimes it will but most of the time it doesnt matter how much I try the pencil just won't draw, if I push too hard it scratches the vinyl 😭 it looks life your drawing effortlessly and I just don't understand because its just a pencil 😭

Any tips on getting pencil to show on heat set doll? I varnished with I art matte skin, pencils won't mark the vinyl. I have the new americana soft touch formula which peels on heat set now, the older formula worked well. I've also heard adding baking soda to my heat set varnish, but I'm scared to
Hi dear , I’m a very beginner and I use air dry paint . I have few questions. Before I start mapping should I seal and varnish the head ?? . And how long i need to keep the varnish to get cured before I start mapping??? Also After I did the hair should I seal and vanish again ??? Hair I want to do with prisma color pencils
I seal before mapping, but I don’t varnish yet, as the pencils don’t show up as well with varnish. If you’re using rebornfx sealer, wait 48 hours for it to cure first. Then do mapping and hair, and seal again, then varnish. You could skip the sealer the second time and go straight to varnishing at the end, but If your buyer ever gets a mark on their doll that they need to remove with rubbing alcohol, the sealer gives some protection to the layers underneath, so I do it as extra protection. Hope that helps!

I don’t, but I use ultimate fusion paint which doesn’t require sealing or priming first

I paint with air dry acrylics first, and then seal and then use pencils, or you can seal over the pencils and paint with acrylics on top of that.
