The Tripartite Agreement between Japan, the US and S. Korea is not the equivalent to the Abraham Accords. That is an odd statement on a multitude of levels.

Plenty of Koreans remember the last time Martial Law was in effect too. They are not so eager for a repeat. Male population have 2 years mandatory military service and are not to be trifled with.
I think that Donald Trump introduced a useful analytical framework for this situation - that of the "shit-hole country". South Korea (at least initially) has demonstrated that it is not one. According to reports, the general public and law-makers (including the president's own party) shut down the self-coup. We will see how this develops, but the news is encouraging.
@azmodanpc they really need to sort that out, I think fear of jail and legislative power might drive more presidents' in future to try what Yoon did. Depending on the circumstances that person might just succeed.

As soon as the marital law is declared, 20,000 citizens gather around national assembly to stop military from blockading the national assembly. Pretty much strong democracy shown here. While I don't know exactly how the rating is done, nor didn't even know such stupid ranking existed (why rank it? maybe you could class countries into different levels of democracy). If there was any reason why S.Korea would have high ranking in democracy, it would probably be because of the history of people fighting to gain true democracy against dictatorship or the attempts for dictatorships. However I do respect Indians and how their founding fathers made sure that the military was composed of people from diverse backgrounds and created a system to not allow military personals to be involved in politics.
