Classically trained, I play the violin since 2nd grade. Still have a good ear, but not able to improvise and articulate my message as I feel them. I do still read music, and had to re-introduce myself to hearing and playing by ear after so many years playing in orchestras. Blues, Jazz, Celtic, and Fiddling have peaked my interest. I teach violin, and do some private local performances of songs memorized and turned them into my own (themes to classical movies, Summertime, Worship and Gospel Songs, Old Soul, Classic Rock, a few Folklore, etc). I hear my voice on the violin, but have not as yet been able to articulate it on the violin as I hear it. I bought some books and attend webinars and such to help me learn to improvise with ease. You are truly an inspiration, Regina Carter. I wish you lived closer so that I could take lessons from you to utilize it for myself to bless others as listeners, as well as impart even more onto my students. Thank you!

Thank you, Regina Carter. I loved your story about the big band teacher who told you to stop listening to violin players so you could find your own voice. That resonates so much. I am a drummer who needs to find my voice.
    Congratulations on your well-deserved award!
