I really like some of the subtle background tones these sounds have! I already have the opsix and typhon, which both feel very synthwave to me, but this might be a future purchase for sure!
Nice synth, and good demo. Almost been "collecting" new synths for two decades now, I spot a pattern here. Companies put out a lot of new synths these days (there's really not a shortage of options), but generally, when a new synth is announced, it goes something like this: It has two/three oscillators, noise source, a mixer, filter, amp, and a couple envelopes and LFOs. On some synths, some of the basic effects (distortion, chorus, delay, reverb) are thrown in too. And then there's ARP and a little funny step sequencer. Then we get a demonstrator noodling around with some patches, tweaking cutoff and resonance to show how great that synth is. So I'm a bit tired of following new synth releases. Each year, we get more of the same (this is generally speaking, I don't refer specifically to the TEO here). So I simply continue making music with what I already have (which is A LOT), instead of replacing old gear with similar new gear. Does anyone need to replace his piano or guitar every two years with the shiniest new piano/guitar? I admit that I get GAS too whenever something new is presented, but I really don't know where it's coming from. Synths from 10 years ago are just as capable for music making as today's synths.
100% agree! To speak with an analogy, one can paint a picture with just 5 colours. I believe that a synth purchase is justified in 3 occasions: very limited or no previous ownership, space constraints (change something big which is usually the case with older synths, with something smaller) and if something breaks and cannot be fixed ( or its no worthy to be fixed). Everything elsa is pure GAS.
it’s only the last 4 years that we’ve had access to new proper classic design analog poly synths. I agree there’s a bunch of over saturation in the rest of the market though.
you can try new concepts, like 3rdWave from Groove Synthesis, UDO Super Gemini, Arturia Polybrute 12, Minifreak, Hydrasynth, new Waldorf Synths, Osmose, the new little Moog semi-modular boxes and so on, I was on superbooth this year, there are so many new and different concepts out there... not just the typical 2/3 Oscillator/Filter/LFO thing...
Instant Stranger things. Great demo with some really nice oberheim sounds. Is I remember it this sounds just as good as my old Xpander and OB8 did back in the day.
I worry a lot about the big filter knob........... It's the same as the SEQUENTIAL TAKE 5 and there are a lot of users who have broken one pretty quickly...
why am i always pre-order-zoned. lol. i already have cut my teeth on this form factor and i like the perfornance features. the octave split lets the LH be 2 things. both the take and teo would then give me 4 zones to play with just 2 hands. i'm scared of mod matrices, but the take5 is ez4 tards like me..and that sound mmmmmm. so i will still get this before the ubxa, even tho on paper the ubxa is amazing.
The only thing that irks me is the oscillator mixer requires menu diving. Other than that, it sounds like a proper oberheim and seems like it can get pretty weird if you want it to.
@@klownaround5464 It will be when it has 16 voices of polyphony, capable of splitting or layering 2 patches, has poly aftertouch and when it has a 5 octave keybed, while managing to be about 400 euros cheaper than than the TEO will be. :) As it is now, the UB-Xa still firmly occupies the number one sales spot for Thomann. Don get me wrong, the TEO 5 seems like an awesome little synth, but it's kindof apples and grapes :) I do kinda wish the UB-Xa had the SEM filter and the effects of the TEO.
@@payt01 well i have held out waaaay too long and watched tons n tons of YT videos and NONE OF THE UBXA DEMOS made me pull out my CC i ended up just buying 2 PRO-800’s to sync them together from SWEETWATER and when i saw the JP3-O demo of the TEO-5 and he played the RUSH TOM SAWYER BASS THAT WAS THE NAIL ON THE COFFIN FOR UBX-A for me ((everyone kept commenting my BEHR will fix it in FIRMWARE UPDATES)) but the evidence is CLEAR THIS IS AUTHENTIC OBERHEIM SOUND A BIT OF THE TOP MODELS and some features the older OBIES don’t have so SWEETWATER WILL TAKE MY CREDIT CARD IN JULY WHEN THESE BABIES ARE AVAILABLE- i have 2. HYDRASYNTHS already so i have aftertouch and other synths never could afford an OBERHEIM BUT NOW I CAN😍😎😜
Kinda depends on what your looking for. The smaller Keybed and effects are a boon for playing live with other keyboards. The 16 voices is for sure nice, as is the poly aftertouch, but the effects and thru-zero fm are super handy. I don’t think any other analog poly have true thru-zero fm. Mod matrix is WAY better. Better for sound design in general I’d say. Filters are arguably better though I actually them on both synths. Depends on what you’re needing.
@@payt01all of that looks good on paper but in every demo I’ve seen the Uli is lacking some authenticity in the sound department, (some of this has to do with sequential vintage knob), plus you can tell the 5 octave keybed isn’t quite in the same league as the Fatar sequential is using. The other thing to consider is quality control issues with some of behringers recent releases. (Broken pots, switchs, keys and other failures) Sequential on the other hand are highly regarded for their products quality and product support .. maybe if Uli made some 10 year warranty commitment on his synths I would consider the value enough to influence me in that direction.
Does anyone seriously believe adding 5 more keys and another voice would have raised the price by $2000? Unlike Take 5 with deliberately hamstrung resonance they seem to have "accidentally" made this filter WAY too close to the cash cow OB6. In addition to NOT responding to MPE guess which other zero cost capability will NEVER be allowed by the Focusrite marketing & sales department? Polychain. A 10 voice bi-timbral OB-X at $3k would kill ALL OB6 sales (even some OB-X8) instead of just a fair few as this will.
@@dankeplace no; and never will about decisions made by sales & marketing which could have made what looks like a really good synth even better at zero cost.

Lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂 WTF
One of the better TEO-5 demos I've seen. And the effects are nice!
Thank you!
It sounds so alive. Just gorgeous ❤
Nice demo! I’ve got a Take 5 and an OB-6 but the GAS is hitting me so so hard with this synth!
Goddam man! You literally and figuratively hit all the right buttons on that thing. Subbed!
the build quality looks good - solid - thats why these look so much better than behringer ones
This one sounds amazing!
Good sound.
Great demo of this synth. Cheers!
Damn this thing sounds good
You are an amazing synthesist. And this synth sound captivating. Even when it gets aggresive it's still not rude.
(start at 1:46 for full effect) 1:52 WHAT IS THAT?!!
This is a true Oberheim moment
Typically I don't like Oberheim synths but I like this one. When I think of synthwave I think of Juno's, but I'm sure it could be done on the TEO-5.
That's funny i was just thinking it sounds a little Juno-esque
Excellent work on that synth. The end jam was great 👍
Yeah, some very cool sounds in this one!
Nice sounding synth... So all I want is the TEO 10 now 😉
2 TEO-5s
@@kujumz Can you chain them?

Something “new” for the new generation and to tickle the GAS fancy as well as companies have to make money to stay afloat.
我拿到了中国首台teo5,这台琴简直太棒了,光听preset的arp我就能过一天😘
I think it sounds really nice, I've owned an OB6 and UBxa and the Teo sounds way more interesting.
I had OB6 and UBXa also, liked them both but the compact big sounding TEO is what I needed and obviously sounds great with the Prophet 5 desktop🥰
This synth is awesome, it's shortlisted with another synth, will be getting 2 and this is 1 of 2.
It's a very small list.
What's the other synth?
Probably the Muse?
For me, who have the Take 5, does it make sense to purchase the TEO 5 (I love the OB6)? Is the only difference just the filter?

Teo 5 vs take 5?
Take that ubxa!! Nothing like the authentic thing

I think that is an issue for some people with OB-x8 as well.
Does synthwave still exist?
Very much so! You can Even hear the influences of synth wave in modern music such as The Weeknd’s latest albums!
Hell no now that the AI takeover is upon us. Unfortunately, most recorded music is now redundant.
