The 20 minutes rapid onset makes it all that much more better. Compared to other opioids Oxycodone is just in its own league. Can easily do 20-40mg and have no problems functioning.
I do them IV and the onset is immediate. It's truly one of a kind. I've self administered many opioids by IV and oc is unique. No huge rush, but it comes on as fast as flipping a switch....just kind of turns on. Even though I IV, I'm not a daily user by any means. Anywhere from once a week to once a month.

I was a pharmacy technician from 95 to 2002 and when we started seeing prescriptions of 160 30mg instant release pills per month for people who had very minor injuries, or in some cases none at all, I knew it was going to be a shitstorm at some point.
@@_RobBanks because many of them were very vocal about what they were being treated for for 1. For 2, the pharmacist at the time was concerned about what was happening and made phone calls to multiple pain clinics questioning the prescriptions legitimacy. Though oxycontin had not been such a big thing yet, it was still a schedule 2 drug and there were prescriptions rolling in for way more over the legal amount, so there was a lot of back and forth about the ethics of this situation and patients names were never mentioned openly, but the ridiculousness of what the script was written for was. Keep in mind, this was in the 90s before the federal database and the state databases we have now. The only thing done by computer at that point was printing labels and emails. After the whole thing blew up later in in 09 and 2010, things got more serious as far as safeguarding hippa, mostly due to people using patient information as a means to get more meds, or possibly rip someone off financially. Times were way diffrent, giving rise to what we have today.
It is a Plain Shame the ones abusing these medications for recreational purposes have made those of us who legitimately need the same medications a living Hell!

I am currently prescribed this drug for pain after my hernia surgery. This drug is freaking amazing. It makes me calm and slightly happier while removing my pain. However I've been doing whatever I could to avoid taking this drug and only when the pain is not manageable with ibuprofen and weed. OxyContin effects everyone differently. Some people can take it for pain management and never have single thought about abusing the drug. Other people abuse it the moment they see it.
I know that this drug has helped many people with severe pain and for things like cancer, and for that I will give its responsible use credit. It certainly helped me get through a painful dental abscess, as that pain was excruciating. I personally don't like the mental fog that it gives me. I had my gallbladder removed two months ago, and it helped when the pain was at its strongest. Thankfully the laparoscopic surgery wasn't too intense (as opposed to the old school surgery) and I only needed to take it once. I didn't even need it prescribed when I left the hospital, as I relied on Ibuprofen for pain relief (it's hard to be drugged and care for a five-year-old lol).
I'm on Targin, which is a combination of oxycodone and naloxone. While I have no euphoria from taking it (I don't really care for that), it is the only thing that has helped my pain. I suffer from chronic back pain as a result of bulges in L3/4 and L4/5, while I have a protrusion/herniation in L5/S1 that has caused spinal stenosis (narrowing of the gap the spinal cord goes through). It causes sciatica, weakness in my legs when standing or walking and just radiating pain in my lower back. While it doesn't completely alleviate the pain, it makes tasks (such as walking around the supermarket) easier to do. In addition to taking this medication, I'm on Lyrica and see a physiotherapist. Some people have found that getting surgery has drastically reduced their pain, and need for pain medications. That's something I'd be interested in considering in the future.
Jonathan QuantumJG i have the same problems with L5/S1... My left leg was numb and in constant pain. Ive got surgery on it which made the numbness dissappear but the pain is still consistent. Surgery always should be the last option, but doctors feared the nerve making my leg numb could die off. Hope you get well! Greetings from germany :)
Targin I was told instead of oxy I have l4l5s1 herniated disk tingling and sciatica and nothing works better then oxy and I had mental breakdown with targin and have told them nope doesn’t work which it does not I think if they actually helped people like us for the problem they helped create I think we both agree we wish we were jot in this position in the first place and I don’t think banning herbs that actually help reduce the addiction it creates I dunno but when I don’t have tablets or go over for flare ups I’m left in one hell of a fight

Having one parent with an addiction increases your risk, having two addicted parents increases your risk more. Different races and different ethnic groups have higher or lower rates of addiction which shows a genetic link. Addiction was first identified as a disease in 1956 by the AMA. There are also environmental social and psychiatric causes that predispose an individual. When you group all the science together it’s fairly obvious that the cause of addiction is not a weak person or a choice. What person would choose to have an addiction?

The analgetic effect of Oxycodone is TWICE as powerfull as that from morfine. The dose is also lower: if you'd have to take 10mg morfine (oral) you would need 5mg Oxycodone (oral) to get same effect. (2mg morfine (IV) = 5mg Oxycodone (IV) )
I'm on oxycodone for pain too. I'm 39 I've been sick since I was 6 months old. 2 kidney transplants, dialysis and heart surgery it's very hard to go without this drug. But the problem is it helps the pain but its hard to get off

10:40 On the contrary prescription opioids and their lethality are vastly overstated. Just because they're implicated in a lot of death doesn't mean they're the actual death causative substance. This is clear by the fact that over two thirds of the deaths on any given year attributed to prescription opioids also counted heroin and/or fentanyl as contributors and we all know heroin IV and illicit fentanyl have a propensity to cause death far, far easier than prescription opioids. The LD50 of morphine is estimated to be around 150-250mg and this translates to 30-50 standard 5mg Norcos. The tylenol in it kills you first. In oxycodone this is roughly 20-33 5mg pills. Roughly halve this for 10mg pills which are fairly common and that's still 15-25 pills for hydrocodone and morphine-equivelent potency opioids and 10-17 pills of oxycodone. That's a lot, and takes deliberate levels of irresponsibility to produce death in JUST prescription opioids. Responsible users are well aware not to use alcohol around their doses and the concomittant prescribing of benzos and opioids has slashed even harder than opioid prescribing in general. We need to be more truthful about the potency of standard prescription type opioids, not less. They're only realistically fatally dangerous when irresponsibly combined with other similar drugs, but rarely are they dangerous on their own. Least we begin to factor in that most people on consistent therapy develop significant levels of tolerance to respiratory depression (but not necessarily analgesia) so the dose needed to kill them is going to be markedly higher.

Elsewise the significant reduction in the prescribing of opioids would have made SOME impact on the positive towards the overdose crisis. And no, prescription opioids are nowhere near as addictive as IV heroin. IV heroin's addiction rate is estimated to be 25% from the best studies ACTUALLY identifying true addiction, whereas prescription opioids are frequently under 3-5% and often have the problem in studies of conflating signs and symptoms of physical dependence with addiction. Also no, nobody said they were non-addictive. It was theorized that the extended release mechanism led to a LOWER addiction risk because of the lesser peaks and valleys of intermittent dosing with IR opioids, and MSContin, the literal same thing done to morphine, suggested it was feasible. Oxycodone was not new. Percocet existed. It was literally just extended release oxycodone. It combined two things that already existed. Oxycodone just has a marginally higher likability index lead on morphine coupled with a higher bioavailability and therefore its abuse potential was higher by nature of it being a more desirable opioid by recreational users.

If roughly a decade of increased prescribing was the all tell cause of the overdose epidemic, then the decade of deprescribing since would have had a positive impact. You don't get to choose which period of time is more "true" and "factual" when all it is is a correlation that was NEVER proven causative on a national scale. In fact there's studies that show at large scale that depresribing incentivizes polypharmacy and illicit drug use. Recreational users used diverted prescription opioids. New OUD cases from prescriptions stemming from legitimate medical use are rare whether the traditional narrative believes that or not. It is FREQUENTLY nonmedical use. The whole "80% of heroin users started on prescription opioids" half truth is literally based on a study of NONMEDICAL use of prescription type opioids, not opioids PRESCRIBED to that person being the starting point for their addiction - that was not what that study evaluated. It literally just showed that, gasp, opioid users will use other opioids sometimes, but even then that VERY SAME STUDY places the transition rate of users from prescribed type opioids to heroin at less than 4%. You don't get to choose the canon you want because of anecdotes. There simply is too much information on the OD crisis that is contradictory. The only reason the anti-prescription opioid narrative prevails is because the big bag guy is a Pharmaceutical company, and everyone loves an anti-Pharma crusade.
I have lung cancer and prescribed 15mg morphine 3x a day... I've noticed if I miss a dose or late on any of my regimen I tend to feel weird and anxious.. My pain is definitely real, I just wish that there was another way to go about limiting it...IF YOU DO START TO USE OPIATES FOR RECREATION DO NOT START A CONSISTENT DAILY DOSE AND ONLY TAKE IT AS DIRECTED.. I'm sry to hear that as well. but my experience has been that the withdrawal symptoms are not that bad when compared to the pain one uses it for and if the pain is great enough for the dose used if the withdrawal is that bad you may need to reduce your dose and withdrawal some then increase your dose slowly to find the right amount for your pain. but always talk to your doctor before changing anything with your meds. hope this helps.
Thank you for this comment. It's very important for people to remember that even those that do have real pain (like yourself) are still vulnerable to the dangers of addiction/dependence. I cringe every time I see someone screeching in the comments sections of educational videos "I'M NOT AN ADDICT! I'M IN PAIN!" You can have real pain AND be an addict. These drugs may help some but they are extremely, extremely dangerous to every single person who takes them (even those who they seem to help).

I was hit by a car walking across US1 in St. Augustine, Florida. That was in 2013 and the car the doctors said was going at least 60mph. I was on morphine for three years and a lot of other medications. I don't have an addictive personality. I have seen people that ruined their lives from getting in an accident and started using pain meds. Now that's their life.
My first was at 14. I was given an OC 40 by a family member. I remember punching myself in the face to see if i could feel it...i was totally numb. I couldn't believe they gave this stuff to people.... The next year i learned how to snort it in a movie ("oxymorons")and it was all down hill from there lol

I have been on Oxicodone since 2013 for major back problems which I'm in pain constantly with nerve damage,scoliosis,6 or 7 missing discs,curvature of the spine,arthritis and they (doctor's) say I'll be in a wheel chair in about 10 years,well it's been 5 years and I am getting worse,but I have been seeing a doctor for my back and I was put on Oxicodone in 2013 and Opana, 15 mg and 10 mg and up until 3 or 4 months ago my doctor was closed down and now for a month I was without meds not knowing I was addicted, I had no sleep for a week and a half, no appetite,sweats,diarrhea, it was the worst feeling I ever had in my life, I was thinking about killing myself because the next day I would feel the same, like it was never going away, so I tried everything to try to feel better and nothing helped so I didn't go to heroin, thank God but did go to a drug that was not legal, and it helps but not good because I was sent to another doctor and I was already on the other and when this doctor found out what I was on from previous doctor he then wanted to give me 1/2 of what I was taken before which would not of helped enough and then the urine test showed it and then they said they couldn't see me anymore so after all of that since 2013, I'm back to square one and in debt with doctor bills, I would have been better off buying heroin on the street in he first place, but who should pay for this? You can ask my wife how many times I kept her up because in the beginning I didn't know what was wrong with me and she had to work the next day and alot of times I ran out and had to wait my 30 days till I got a refill, I am an addicted to it,it helped alot and it hurt bad alot.
That's not being addicted, that's being dependent. Withdrawals are not what makes addiction. They are different concepts and it is a shame society has made you think you're an addict because your body responded as nearly ANYONE'S body would after long term opioid exposure being abruptly cut off.
You should do a video on Kratom. It was the only reason I was able to get off of 11 years of opiate addiction. I wanted to be done with all of it but the withdrawal was to intense. Doctor put me on suboxion (worst thing I could have done). If only I knew that it's harder to wean off of because of its long half-life. I was put on to kratom by my sister and it really works wonders for withdrawal and getting clean.

No they arent a cure all, they simply show you a different way of living, unique perspectives and heavy introspection about yourself and your life. Never got me sober though, never "cured" me in any way. Also the psychedelic community is ridiculously annoying because of things like this, they act like its gonna fix everyone possibly because they felt it fixed them. Everyones brain chemistry is entirely different, and for some people taking shrooms are a very very bad idea. I gave my friend 2.5 grams because he kept begging me, for the next 4-5 hours I had to comfort him while he cried his eyes out and hugged my floor. It was traumatic to even watch, so nah I will stick to poppy seed tea, hash oil, morphine tablets and all of that devils forbidden candy..
UK patient here. Not my choice but I seem to need daily dose of around 400mg slow release per day. I'm prescribed 75mg fast release per day. A mate gave me the extras last month and for 17 days I was off the bed I live on and doing tasks untouched for years. I want that life but am aware those are ultra high doses - I wish three 10mg per day did it for me. I'm back on the bed, spirit broken and back to constant pain. I'd go anywhere to be observed or go with daily scripts, any follow up at all - my injuries are massive and not getting better. What did I do???? Help before I give in.
I got this for an out patient surgery. They got me in and decided to cancel and take another approach. I was let go. I couldn’t hardly walk . I had had a small stroke 5 yrs ago and acquired a slight on going issues of balance. That could be why it really had such an affect on my gate.. it made me pleasantly content and sleepy.. I was down till the next day. I would think that depressed people, people with mental issues, people with disorders that affect their function in society, would love this stuff.Anyone who functions normally and is in touch with their life would not do this to themselves repeatedly unless they were in horrible pain and could not take part in society and life in general any longer.

ummbreebree When i did opium i got some itchiness but it wasn't really intense and i could easily go with it. What was really bad for me was the itchiness i got with high doses of dxm. Everytime i surrendered to my urge to scratch the fuck out of my legs, the feeling of relieve i usualy would get just transformed into more itchiness and the only reason i didn't peal my skin off was that i got so dissotiated that i couldn't feel my body anymore.

5 years dependent on this, (in combo with morphine) for back-pain, hyperalgesia has occured. Thankfully, nerve block therapy (branch block shots) are definitely helping with sharp nerve pain. I am slowly decreasing my oxy dose over time and dream of one day being off oxy/morphine altogether. Constipation, depression,cognitive dysfunction and labored respiration are a quality of life problem and I still have marked pain on the meds and shots. Never start Oxy is my advice. Lose weight, change diet, exercise, do therapies, anything you can do to not be on these long term.The slow release morphine doesn't seem as bad when it comes to withdrawals but oxys are awful. Just want to be normal. Might even get rhyzotomy surgery.

We have a version in Australia called Targin that has half the dose weight of Naloxone in it. I have been in it for year due to pain chronic antibiotic resistant bacterial dysbiosis and prostate cancer. Its doesn't cause constipation and works well against my pain...without causing any mental confusion.

I occasionally take oxycodone when my pain is really bad. I take slow release and immediate release but only when I really have to. I can take it or leave it - I don't feel a need to have to take it every day. It is a good pain killer but it makes me feel a bit sad/melancholic. It certainly doesn't make me feel 'euphoric' at all.

I now take the 30mg oxycodone and they work and ots allowed me to go back to work have a life outside of a dark room as well as control my headaches so that I dont bite down and break off any more teeth during a migraine because my eyes dont focus in light well. B8t because someone's kid abused them and took them for recreational purposes I'm going to be punished. Wanna know the real issue its simple? They start kids off on ADD,ADHD ,and many others then they prescribe a medication for that sickness. They tell these kids to be the best version of themselves they need these drugs and when they get out of school and the meds are taken away they will try anything and everything to kill their senses and feel what they have learned as normal. That's the epidemic.
Oxycontin allowed me to work instead of going on disability for 10 years after a head on 70 mph crash. Spinal cord surgery kept me from being paralyzed but I was left with massive pain. I'm no longer on it because I retired and didn't need that heavy medication anymore. It saved my life and I had no problems with it. Getting off it was horrible but neccesary and I did it cold turkey. It was there when I needed it and then the opiate crisis started because of the junkies that only wanted it to get high. I took them as prescribed and functioned well. Now I hear people that need it are being forced to live in pain and more people are opting for social security disability.

The 20 minutes rapid onset makes it all that much more better. Compared to other opioids Oxycodone is just in its own league. Can easily do 20-40mg and have no problems functioning.
I do them IV and the onset is immediate. It's truly one of a kind. I've self administered many opioids by IV and oc is unique. No huge rush, but it comes on as fast as flipping a switch....just kind of turns on. Even though I IV, I'm not a daily user by any means. Anywhere from once a week to once a month.

@@_RobBanks because many of them were very vocal about what they were being treated for for 1. For 2, the pharmacist at the time was concerned about what was happening and made phone calls to multiple pain clinics questioning the prescriptions legitimacy. Though oxycontin had not been such a big thing yet, it was still a schedule 2 drug and there were prescriptions rolling in for way more over the legal amount, so there was a lot of back and forth about the ethics of this situation and patients names were never mentioned openly, but the ridiculousness of what the script was written for was. Keep in mind, this was in the 90s before the federal database and the state databases we have now. The only thing done by computer at that point was printing labels and emails. After the whole thing blew up later in in 09 and 2010, things got more serious as far as safeguarding hippa, mostly due to people using patient information as a means to get more meds, or possibly rip someone off financially. Times were way diffrent, giving rise to what we have today.

I am currently prescribed this drug for pain after my hernia surgery. This drug is freaking amazing. It makes me calm and slightly happier while removing my pain. However I've been doing whatever I could to avoid taking this drug and only when the pain is not manageable with ibuprofen and weed. OxyContin effects everyone differently. Some people can take it for pain management and never have single thought about abusing the drug. Other people abuse it the moment they see it.

I know that this drug has helped many people with severe pain and for things like cancer, and for that I will give its responsible use credit. It certainly helped me get through a painful dental abscess, as that pain was excruciating. I personally don't like the mental fog that it gives me. I had my gallbladder removed two months ago, and it helped when the pain was at its strongest. Thankfully the laparoscopic surgery wasn't too intense (as opposed to the old school surgery) and I only needed to take it once. I didn't even need it prescribed when I left the hospital, as I relied on Ibuprofen for pain relief (it's hard to be drugged and care for a five-year-old lol).

I'm on Targin, which is a combination of oxycodone and naloxone. While I have no euphoria from taking it (I don't really care for that), it is the only thing that has helped my pain. I suffer from chronic back pain as a result of bulges in L3/4 and L4/5, while I have a protrusion/herniation in L5/S1 that has caused spinal stenosis (narrowing of the gap the spinal cord goes through). It causes sciatica, weakness in my legs when standing or walking and just radiating pain in my lower back. While it doesn't completely alleviate the pain, it makes tasks (such as walking around the supermarket) easier to do. In addition to taking this medication, I'm on Lyrica and see a physiotherapist. Some people have found that getting surgery has drastically reduced their pain, and need for pain medications. That's something I'd be interested in considering in the future.
Jonathan QuantumJG i have the same problems with L5/S1... My left leg was numb and in constant pain. Ive got surgery on it which made the numbness dissappear but the pain is still consistent. Targin I was told instead of oxy I have l4l5s1 herniated disk tingling and sciatica and nothing works better then oxy and I had mental breakdown with targin and have told them nope doesn’t work which it does not I think if they actually helped people like us for the problem they helped create I think we both agree we wish we were jot in this position in the first place and I don’t think banning herbs that actually help reduce the addiction it creates I dunno but when I don’t have tablets or go over for flare ups I’m left in one hell of a fight

Having one parent with an addiction increases your risk, having two addicted parents increases your risk more. Different races and different ethnic groups have higher or lower rates of addiction which shows a genetic link. Addiction was first identified as a disease in 1956 by the AMA. There are also environmental social and psychiatric causes that predispose an individual. When you group all the science together it’s fairly obvious that the cause of addiction is not a weak person or a choice. What person would choose to have an addiction?

The analgetic effect of Oxycodone is TWICE as powerfull as that from morfine. The dose is also lower: if you'd have to take 10mg morfine (oral) you would need 5mg Oxycodone (oral) to get same effect. (2mg morfine (IV) = 5mg Oxycodone (IV) )

10:40 On the contrary prescription opioids and their lethality are vastly overstated. Just because they're implicated in a lot of death doesn't mean they're the actual death causative substance. This is clear by the fact that over two thirds of the deaths on any given year attributed to prescription opioids also counted heroin and/or fentanyl as contributors and we all know heroin IV and illicit fentanyl have a propensity to cause death far, far easier than prescription opioids. Roughly halve this for 10mg pills which are fairly common and that's still 15-25 pills for hydrocodone and morphine-equivelent potency opioids and 10-17 pills of oxycodone. That's a lot, and takes deliberate levels of irresponsibility to produce death in JUST prescription opioids. Responsible users are well aware not to use alcohol around their doses and the concomittant prescribing of benzos and opioids has slashed even harder than opioid prescribing in general.
We need to be more truthful about the potency of standard prescription type opioids, not less. They're only realistically fatally dangerous when irresponsibly combined with other similar drugs, but rarely are they dangerous on their own. Least we begin to factor in that most people on consistent therapy develop significant levels of tolerance to respiratory depression (but not necessarily analgesia) so the dose needed to kill them is going to be markedly higher.
@@Robert-po9gw There is no confirmatory evidence to suggest that is the case, it's just the popular narrative. Elsewise the significant reduction in the prescribing of opioids would have made SOME impact on the positive towards the overdose crisis.
And no, prescription opioids are nowhere near as addictive as IV heroin. IV heroin's addiction rate is estimated to be 25% from the best studies ACTUALLY identifying true addiction, whereas prescription opioids are frequently under 3-5% and often have the problem in studies of conflating signs and symptoms of physical dependence with addiction.
Also no, nobody said they were non-addictive. It was theorized that the extended release mechanism led to a LOWER addiction risk because of the lesser peaks and valleys of intermittent dosing with IR opioids, and MSContin, the literal same thing done to morphine, suggested it was feasible. Oxycodone was not new. Percocet existed. It was literally just extended release oxycodone. It combined two things that already existed. Oxycodone just has a marginally higher likability index lead on morphine coupled with a higher bioavailability and therefore its abuse potential was higher by nature of it being a more desirable opioid by recreational users.

If roughly a decade of increased prescribing was the all tell cause of the overdose epidemic, then the decade of deprescribing since would have had a positive impact. You don't get to choose which period of time is more "true" and "factual" when all it is is a correlation that was NEVER proven causative on a national scale. In fact there's studies that show at large scale that depresribing incentivizes polypharmacy and illicit drug use. Recreational users used diverted prescription opioids. New OUD cases from prescriptions stemming from legitimate medical use are rare whether the traditional narrative believes that or not. It is FREQUENTLY nonmedical use. The whole "80% of heroin users started on prescription opioids" half truth is literally based on a study of NONMEDICAL use of prescription type opioids, not opioids PRESCRIBED to that person being the starting point for their addiction - that was not what that study evaluated. It literally just showed that, gasp, opioid users will use other opioids sometimes, but even then that VERY SAME STUDY places the transition rate of users from prescribed type opioids to heroin at less than 4%.
You don't get to choose the canon you want because of anecdotes. There simply is too much information on the OD crisis that is contradictory. The only reason the anti-prescription opioid narrative prevails is because the big bag guy is a Pharmaceutical company, and everyone loves an anti-Pharma crusade.

I'm sry to hear that as well. but my experience has been that the withdrawal symptoms are not that bad when compared to the pain one uses it for and if the pain is great enough for the dose used if the withdrawal is that bad you may need to reduce your dose and withdrawal some then increase your dose slowly to find the right amount for your pain. but always talk to your doctor before changing anything with your meds. hope this helps.

I was hit by a car walking across US1 in St. Augustine, Florida. That was in 2013 and the car the doctors said was going at least 60mph. I was on morphine for three years and a lot of other medications. I don't have an addictive personality. I have been on Oxicodone since 2013 for major back problems which I'm in pain constantly with nerve damage,scoliosis,6 or 7 missing discs,curvature of the spine,arthritis and they (doctor's) say I'll be in a wheel chair in about 10 years,well it's been 5 years and I am getting worse,but I have been seeing a doctor for my back and I was put on Oxicodone in 2013 and Opana, 15 mg and 10 mg and up until 3 or 4 months ago my doctor was closed down and now for a month I was without meds not knowing I was addicted, I had no sleep for a week and a half, no appetite,sweats,diarrhea, it was the worst feeling I ever had in my life, I was thinking about killing myself because the next day I would feel the same, like it was never going away, so I tried everything to try to feel better and nothing helped so I didn't go to heroin, thank God but did go to a drug that was not legal, and it helps but not good because I was sent to another doctor and I was already on the other and when this doctor found out what I was on from previous doctor he then wanted to give me 1/2 of what I was taken before which would not of helped enough and then the urine test showed it and then they said they couldn't see me anymore so after all of that since 2013, I'm back to square one and in debt with doctor bills, I would have been better off buying heroin on the street in he first place, but who should pay for this? You can ask my wife how many times I kept her up because in the beginning I didn't know what was wrong with me and she had to work the next day and alot of times I ran out and had to wait my 30 days till I got a refill, I am an addicted to it,it helped alot and it hurt bad alot.

That's not being addicted, that's being dependent. Withdrawals are not what makes addiction. They are different concepts and it is a shame society has made you think you're an addict because your body responded as nearly ANYONE'S body would after long term opioid exposure being abruptly cut off.

You should do a video on Kratom. It was the only reason I was able to get off of 11 years of opiate addiction. I wanted to be done with all of it but the withdrawal was to intense. Doctor put me on suboxion (worst thing I could have done). If only I knew that it's harder to wean off of because of its long half-life. UK patient here. Not my choice but I seem to need daily dose of around 400mg slow release per day. I'm prescribed 75mg fast release per day. A mate gave me the extras last month and for 17 days I was off the bed I live on and doing tasks untouched for years. I got this for an out patient surgery. They got me in and decided to cancel and take another approach. I was let go. I couldn’t hardly walk . I had had a small stroke 5 yrs ago and acquired a slight on going issues of balance. That could be why it really had such an affect on my gate.. it made me pleasantly content and sleepy.. I was down till the next day. I would think that depressed people, people with mental issues, people with disorders that affect their function in society, would love this stuff.Anyone who functions normally and is in touch with their life would not do this to themselves repeatedly unless they were in horrible pain and could not take part in society and life in general any longer.

5 years dependent on this, (in combo with morphine) for back-pain, hyperalgesia has occured. Thankfully, nerve block therapy (branch block shots) are definitely helping with sharp nerve pain. I am slowly decreasing my oxy dose over time and dream of one day being off oxy/morphine altogether. Constipation, depression,cognitive dysfunction and labored respiration are a quality of life problem and I still have marked pain on the meds and shots. Never start Oxy is my advice. Lose weight, change diet, exercise, do therapies, anything you can do to not be on these long term.The slow release morphine doesn't seem as bad when it comes to withdrawals but oxys are awful. Just want to be normal. Might even get rhyzotomy surgery.
I had the rhyzotimy procedures done every 9 months or so. They only slightly helped. Not worth the risks of the procedure for me.

I occasionally take oxycodone when my pain is really bad. I take slow release and immediate release but only when I really have to. I can take it or leave it - I don't feel a need to have to take it every day. It is a good pain killer but it makes me feel a bit sad/melancholic. It certainly doesn't make me feel 'euphoric' at all.

B8t because someone's kid abused them and took them for recreational purposes I'm going to be punished. Wanna know the real issue its simple? They start kids off on ADD,ADHD ,and many others then they prescribe a medication for that sickness. They tell these kids to be the best version of themselves they need these drugs and when they get out of school and the meds are taken away they will try anything and everything to kill their senses and feel what they have learned as normal. Oxycontin allowed me to work instead of going on disability for 10 years after a head on 70 mph crash. Spinal cord surgery kept me from being paralyzed but I was left with massive pain. I'm no longer on it because I retired and didn't need that heavy medication anymore. It saved my life and I had no problems with it. Getting off it was horrible but neccesary and I did it cold turkey. It was there when I needed it and then the opiate crisis started because of the junkies that only wanted it to get high. I took them as prescribed and functioned well. Now I hear people that need it are being forced to live in pain and more people are opting for social security disability.
