  • Christmas Castle Countdown, Day 5 of 25! Today we are exploring Schloss Lichtenstein, a castle with an interesting history. It was built as a knights castle, fell to ruins, rebuilt as a hunting lodge, and then redesigned in the 1800s based on the Lichtenstein castle in William Hauff's book. Lichtenstein means light stone, and the castle was built on a bright white stone. Another thing that makes this castle special is that it still runs in the family, and the current Duke of Urach's son lives here. Read the blog below to find out what all of this has to do with the invention of the pretzel!

May be if you spend more time you can visit the two caves the bear cave and the fog cave they are both both quite nice.
By the way the owner the duke of Urach is related to the grimaldi family of monaco actually his ancestor declined to get the duke of monaco themselves.

Never been there myself. Hence, it is interesting to explore some unknown parts of Germany with you. As you recorded this video in Baden-Württemberg, I assume one of the next castles we get see will be the nearby Hohenzollern castle. The.ancestral castle of the Hohenzollern dynasty. The family our last German emperor Wilhelm II. belonged to. Wilhelm II. resigned and ushered the nemesis of the monarchy in Germany after he was defeated by his two cousins King Gorge V of England and Czar Nicolaus II of Russia in World War I.

One of our favorite castles too. We go there with every visitor as it could be reached easy from the one side and there is a nice playground for kids, you can go for lunch at the Jagdhaus nearby or have some coffee there and if you search for a hike, you can start down the valley and hike up through the woods. Oh, I forgot the adventure park were you can climb on the trees.

we would have loved to explore the city more when we were there! But we had been traveling to a new castle every day for the last 7 days, and just wanted to go home haha.

      @@EllieandLucas Understanable!
And don't worry, you didn't miss much tbh. Lichtenstein is okay but the most beautiful thing it has to offer is the castle itself:)

Nice videos. I am curious how you choose which castles and palaces to go to. Because there are so many. On the top of my head I can think of at least 10 big ones within an hour drive of where I live. So I am looking forward to your selection. Maybe you could include a map of germany and show where each castle is located (so I do not need to Google it). Lichtenstein is fairly close to where I live. I am trying to get a picture of it in the snow. The pics from the side with the bridge (your first instagram pic) is that from inside the castle grounds or from a spot accesible regardless of the castle opening hours? Thanks.

Hi! Thanks for watching our videos, we are glad you are enjoying them! Many of our castles were picked just by browsing Instagram and Pinterest for cool looking castles. Some of them were chosen based on how close they were to other places we were already traveling to. For example Linderhof and Neuschwanstein were because we were in the south for our Zugspitze hike.
The first Instagram picture is from a lookout within the castle grounds. I bet this angle in the snow would be super cool!

    Where is Nr. 5?

OOps! You are right, we messed up a graphic. This video is Nr. 5 ua-cam.com/video/r3i4kScJwA4/v-deo.html even though the intro label says 4. We can't change this without completely deleting the video from UA-cam and reuploading it, but now we know to check all the rest. Thanks for the catch!
