Amy MacDonald: ‘If Bruce Springsteen came out now he wouldn’t be played on the radio”

  • From the moment Scottish singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald burst onto the music scene with her massively successful album This Is The Life (2007) she aimed to stay true to her art. MacDonald, back with her fourth album Under Stars, is appreciative of the opportunities that her career has provided, but at the same time laments the way in which the popular music industry functions these days. “It’s hard to be part of something that’s so fake. People don’t discover music anymore, it’s just a calculated marketing machine. A lot of stuff just sounds the same and everyone is so scared to lose radioplay that they change the music they make just to fit in.”

For the last week my mother has been close to death so ive barely slept and just kept going by searching for songs and I came across amy whilst searching for Irish songs to cheer mammy up.i know Amy is Scottish but most of our family emigrated from Donegal to Glasgow and I love the truth of her music. Thank you Amy whenever you are as youve kept me going in the hardest week of my life and today mammy recognised me and spoke to me. God Bless

Very true, people listen to the music that record companies tell them to listen to.
    Huge respect for Amy’s integrity.

So true about how Born to Run would never make it today. Thank God for some musicians with integrity like Amy. Please listen to her cover of that song. You will be amazed. :)

Not rubbish at all. Mainstream media decides who makes it big and who doesn't. Thank goodness though there are other ways to get music out there.
