I mean they could though...Except the first half was entirely wasted having Kane on, Foden was trash every game and still started that game along with Walker, Rice etc
Elite players like Palmer, Gordon, Watkins, Toney, Trent etc were all sitting there collecting dust. None of the players on that pitch before 60/70mins had the aggression/mentality/drive to get the ba foward and when subs were actually made and England did push they scored and Spain were shitting their pants. Then southgates drills came back into play and they went back to defensive allowing shots & after shots whilst hoofing the ball up the pitch.
Regardless of how shit England were the entire tournament & how good Spain were, England could of won that still.
@Khqra I couldn't agree more the problem is that with England certain players get put on a pedestal they don't deserve to be put on whilst the actual ballers who you mentioned can't get on the pitch. If that problem can get resolved they might give spain a serious game
It was literally a draw until the late goal, you are acting as if we got destroyed. Spain played ok, we played terribly and were still in it.

@@philliphenry3458 believe me I'm one of the biggest critics of Southgate's fearball, I've called him all the names under the sun during this tournament but don't act as if the game was a mauling because it wasn't, for me that's the most frustrating thing about it all, with a bit of courage we would have one Euros win at least.
My issue with Southgate isn't that we get battered by teams, my issue is that due to his stubbornness and cowardice, games that are there for the taking are being lost due to his incompetence. If Spain were so amazing that England had no chance, then I would have more sympathy for Gareth.
When Barcelona in 2009 and 2011 destroyed United, I wasn't turning on Ferguson because sometimes you just have to accept a team is on another level. I don't feel like that with England, I feel like Gareth being replaced by a better manager would be the difference.

Selecting the best club players and shoehorning them into a relegation battlers system ,hang tight and nick a goal mentality, talent gap between forwards and backs in England is a throwback to agility over skill shortage in our defence minded players . Simply because of the system from first PE lesson playing football placing the talented skills as forwards, and bigger money if the make it to club level ,while backs for the less talented kids. Less money in the pro club game. So a large number of very talented forwards playing poor defensive football = England mens football. The S&M for sadists to enjoy ,while the rest either endure or switch off. To change that require more than just Southgates removal it is systemic ,has been for 50 years. Klopp or Poch would like to see going forward ,but the system of long ball, end to end agility over talent from grass roots up will have to move in its rewards for forwards and backs pay rates if to get away from block and clog it up the field defenders and goalkeepers mind set. As an example of how we produce players. Pirlo, Modric didn't need to do the high energy chest beating Bellingham, Gerrard thing to effect games. That tells you how they were trading on their intelligence and technical ability. Conversely if Bellingham isn't vacating his position, breaking his neck to get in the box to score he's ineffective. That's why he's always knacked because he can't effect games without a high tempo approach. It's a mentality thing in Britain across all sports imo. We don't play smarter when things aren't going our way, we try harder. If ever there's an issue there's no nuanced approach to the remedy, it's always you need to try harder and show more passion. Football don't work like that. You can have someone like Conor Gallagher or Mathieu Flamini back in the day cover every blade of grass and not effect the game. Then you can get another players who barely moves or touches the ball but effects it with one clever pass. We need to get away and start coaching these players to have the Footballing IQ to understand why it's more important to play with your intelligence and cultivate your technical ability. That should be intuitive but I guess it isn't. It's the same in other sports like Boxing. American fighters have always realised that defence creates attack. British fighters traditionally wear their heart on their sleeve and have zero defence and fight with their face or like a stiff European robots. That trend has started to change in recent years but British fighters like Bruno, Mcguigan, Hatton etc all succumbed to their all action style.
England's best players in this Tournament was: Pickford, Saka, Mainoo, Guehi & Palmer. Our downfall is Southgate.
