  • The City is incredibly thankful for the water savings Calgarians have made so far. We are saving 100 million litres of water every day, which is over 80 per cent of the way to our goal. If everyone in Calgary skipped two extra toilet flushes, we could close the gap of 15 million litres and meet our goal.
We also want to thank our regional partners for doing their part. They have responded to the call to reduce water use and we truly appreciate their efforts.
In addition to the efforts of Calgarians and our regional partners, we have been in discussion with our large commercial customers about opportunities to decrease their reliance on City water. As a result, we have secured a commitment to reduce consumption by an additional 3 million litres a day. We expect to see these efforts reflected in our demand numbers over the following days.
Water-saving measures are also being taken at City recreation facilities. We’ve closed hot tubs and steam rooms, and we've adjusted our cleaning processes and programming to use less water.
We are now introducing additional water saving measures. Starting Sept. 7, showers at City-operated arenas, athletic parks and the Calgary Soccer Centre will be turned off. City arenas will switch to non-potable water for flooding ice surfaces, saving approximately 170,000 litres of water daily. Finally, the ice at Murray Copot Arena will be installed using entirely non-City water.
These are steps that will help get us closer to our reduction target, but it’s still very important that we all continue to save water at home, especially with warmer weather in the forecast. With heat today and over the weekend, we understand the need to tend to flowers and gardens as you anticipate your fall harvest and prepare your garden beds for the winter.
We ask Calgarians to please use non-potable water sources like rain barrels, grey water or river water, which can be picked up from one of our three non-potable water pick up stations. Starting today, we have extended hours at these stations for residents to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The stations are located at:
Ogden Boat Launch, 3303 Bow River Pathway just south of Inglewood Golf Club (not at the Graves Bridge boat launch)
West Baker Park Boat Launch, 4320 Bow River Pathway
Bankside Day Use Area - Fish Creek Provincial Park, 153 Avenue S.E.
    Water use
Yesterday’s water use was 502 million litres. This is up from 500 million litres the day before. We can assume the increase in demand is related to the weather as demand does track with temperature.

    Bylaw and enforcement
While we know that many Calgarians are doing their part, we understand how frustrating it can be to see others who are not. If you see instances of water misuse, you can report it through our Calgary 3-1-1 app or by visiting calgary.ca/311. Our Bylaw Officers are actively following up on complaints.
    Construction update
Construction remains on schedule to be completed by Sept. 23.

At Sites 1-4 located on 33 Avenue N.W. and in Shouldice Park, rebar is being installed to support the concrete pouring. So far, concrete has been poured at six of the 12 repair segments, and the curing process is ongoing. The forms have been removed from five of these segments and are now in the final stages of repair.
Excavation continues at all three repair segments at Site 5, located on 33 Avenue N.W and 86 Street N.W.
Yesterday, crews started excavation work at Sites 6-8 along 16 Avenue N.W., which is closed between 46 Street N.W. and 41 Street N.W. Traffic is being detoured onto Bowness Road, which remains fully open in both directions, providing direct access to 16 Avenue N.W. and local businesses.
Our team has designed a traffic plan that will keep most business driveways open, allow for parking and provide clear direction to help customers find their way. Free short-term parking is also available throughout the community. We encourage Calgarians to support local businesses in Bowness and Montgomery.
The current shutdown of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main has given us an opportunity to complete some additional maintenance without disrupting repair timelines and today, we started work on repairing four valves along the feeder main.
Our teams are working hard to complete this important work as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate everyone who is doing their part to reduce water use. We have two and a half weeks left to go and your cooperation during this time is crucial to help us get through these urgent repairs and ensure we have a reliable water system for everyone.
