Can't leave a fellow Canadian behind. Good idea on hunting. Once I get my property. I will be doing the same having chickens. Except I will have most likely have goats for land clearing, milk, cheese, and butters, also my wife makes homemade soaps and such. And maybe a pig once and a while, becouse bacon. If I get the property I want it has maple trees, cranberry, blueberries, many other wild berries. And a small lake on it.

What works for some people doesn't work for everyone, you just have to do what works for you and your family. Growing up on a big family farm and ranch having livestock really ties not only a lot of your time down it literally ties you down. You can't leave for more than a day at most because those animals totally depend on you taking care of every need. That's the biggest reason we got rid of our animals and just concentrated on our farming which still ties a person down unless you go to an automated watering system which we did after many years. Great video guy's!

I'm new here. Just checked out your videos.Really nice setup you got going here.A work in progress. nothing wrong with that. With this video and a tour of what you have done so far. You mentioned both times about updating your solar. I can't understand why off gridders don't use wind power as well.On cloudy days,in the rain and at night. It's no good for solar panels. So adding wind turbines to your off grid energy source. Will make up for those times the solar doesn't work.Just a thought I wanted to share with you.The hardest part is choosing the right wind turbine for your area.Depending on how hard the wind blows.

Hey Jeremy have a look at Kapper Outdoors Ytube channel. He puts in food plots to bring the deer in. Great channel.
I would only clear and fence in about ten acres around your cabin.
Some for pigs goats any other animals you like, sell the off spring for extra income to the other homesteads around you.
Put in some camp cabins for hunters to rent them. 2 day hunt $250 7 day Hunt $450. Meals included Keep some of the off spring to feed the hunters. Just a couple of ideas for you to take your mind of cabin fever this cold winter for you guys. The price is just an example you know your area better so you know what to charge. Make it so they want to come back time and time again.

Try turnips for your deer plant a small patch they love them it’s they will eat the tops off of them in the fall and come back and dig them up in the winter. It’s a good and cheap crop for deer.. as well as corn.. farm animals I agree they can be costly to keep.. I stick mainly to birds chickens, turkey chickens will forage for themselves pretty much if you can allow them to free range ( not a lot of predators ) including birds such as hawks, eagles and owls. Also one goose if your going to have chickens a goose will let you know if there is a predator around they are actually pretty aggressive too from what I’ve seen of your chickens and the way they lay eggs they are probably first year chickens after two or three years you’ll probably want to think about replacing them and using the old chickens for soup. Chickens don’t lay many eggs once they get about 3 years old.. and you might consider a pig or two they will also forage quite a bit and at about 7 months old they are big enough to butcher and they don’t cost that much to buy... I think chickens and maybe a pig or two would be all I would raise and maybe a turkey or two and ONE goose

At least you don't gotta buy your eggs :) But the idea of hunting and fishing and having a garden is fun too! Was watching a youtube channel based in Alaska and they were saying that they signed up for the road kill list, where the police will call those on the list to come and collect a dead moose or deer and can salvage it for it's meat. Do you guys have that in Canada?

Good joke! Best to do what you love and are best suited to. Imagine the workload of raising lots of animals and then keeping predators out. Hope you get that nasty Fisher thing before there are more. Love your channel!

I'm not a thumbs down kinda guy. But I was a little disappointed with the video.
Key word is a little. I thought it was gonna be something else compared to what seems like a walking talking head.
No malice intended. It's just that some people like to know why people may have thumbs down.
Again I didn't but wanted to share my thoughts.

Have u thought about opening up your land to hunters and u be a guide and charge and build a small cabin for that. It would be extra income. And u can manage what u open your land two. Just a thought

Nice plans for the future, but you need to have much money to realize that! e. g. A tractor costs money!

    • @MBFModernHomesteading

The tractor is the big expense that will have to wait for now. As far as hunting goes, I have all the gear for that :)

raising animals is daily work .. pros and cons to it. most people i have seen or know or even on youtube do it with in mind that they are also selling some of what they raise to pay for it. if i had the land that is how i would do it. I love to hunt and i am also ex military.. eastern ontario here. You have the set up for what you have in mind to do. And more of a abundance of animals andvarity to choose from. Thing with a garden is if you let the deer and other animals graze from it they will in a night eat it all. I have seen it happen. So it is a mix f keeping them out of it and allowing them some of it. Just you dont wnat it to be another feed plot for them. Once you get it going and figure out how much say potatoes you need a year and you grow itand store it properly plus extra "in case of" the amount of money you will save in groceries is huge. So that is also something you can figure in to the cost of setting up a garden and you can do it on the cheap but all depends on what resorces you have on hand as well. Raised beds are best and easiest to manage. No dig is another option. lots of options. but in the end you will need fencing of some sort . or smart planting ( garlic and garlic chive keeeps deer away) lots to consider lots of ways to do it. You have a great start for what you want . cheers brother god bless and keep at'er .
