what also probably messed with their perception of the coffee was seeing the more expensive ones infront of the cheaper ones, the bags should've been removed. put numbers under the cups
LOL, guys. Luwak coffee beans are delicate and very easy to mess up in roasting. It is the lowest acidity coffee due to the weasel’s digestive track fermentation and when they come out the other end, they are clean beans for droppings aka poop. I guess either you guys got cheated buying super pricey coffee that were incorrectly processed.
That would be my guess. They didn't go into their brewing method at all and even if you get brilliant beans, if you brew them in your office's dripper they're still gonna taste like drip coffee.
Ashlynn Anderson u should try, if u ever travel to indonesia. Even out here we got farmed luwak coffee and wild. The difference is the farmed ones are fed coffee berries and the wild ones choose the ripest berries. That’s actually what make them so special. But, knowing those exporters they’d probably try & succeed in passing the farmed ones off as the wild to fool people who never had it. It is the mildest, least bitter & acidic coffee u ever gonna taste. I’m too much of a snob in my caffeine ( be it coffee or teas: green & black) not to go the source to taste the real thing.

when people drink coffee, they're looking for that distinct coffee aroma. The thing about coffee is that, more expensive does not mean higher quality. Coffee is coffee. Sure, you can wind up with bad coffee, but that's not because you didn't pay enough for good beans. The price comes because of how the coffee was made. The way its grown adds VERY VERY subtle flavors to the coffee. And different climates, different soil, will give it different flavors. Again, its VERY subtle. The next step that adds more complexity to the flavor is the roasting process. Roasting is a simple process, but requires intense monitoring and concentration, because a roaster can control exactly what flavors he/she wishes the coffee to present to the drinker. All in all, you'll be able to tell the difference in coffee's when they're the most fresh. But all coffee goes stale fast, It'll last one to three weeks at most. And then it becomes the generic coffee flavor everyone knows. Its not a bad thing. I'll be the first to admit that i prefer beans over mass produced coffee like nescafe, or folgers, or keurigs or starbucks. I find i get more taste from beans than i do from the company brands. BUT... Coffee is coffee, and its a bit ridiculous and a waste of time to expect fresh and unique flavors from your brews all year round. You'd have to only buy a handful of beans every few days at a TRUSTED seller to get a fresh and unique tasting cup every time. Generic coffee flavor is not bad, its why everyone loves coffee. If you get your hands on a fresh batch of beans, good for you. Enjoy it now, because it won't last. And after that, you'll go back to having generic coffee, and you'll enjoy that too. Because why not? Thats what coffee is supposed to taste like. Plenty of people around the world enjoy the cheap coffee just as much as some enjoy expensive ones.
It’s so funny how things have prices that differ so much, especially everyday things like water and coffee! Just makes me wonder if it is really worth it.
That's easy - it's not. Luxury items are never worth that amount. They are purposely marked up so that those that can afford them feel better about themselves. They're not that much better than the cheap stuff.
It is worth it,to some people Luwak Coffee isn't just invented because of people want to try coffee from a weasel's poop. It has a sad history of colonialism in Indonesia. To be fair, instant coffee isn't actually bad, for real. A real lot of pastry chefs use instant coffee to make various recipes ( mousses, parfaits, coffee flavoured pastry creams etc... ) and they taste very good ( unless you buy the cheapest ones ). It's always better to buy a high quality instant coffee than buying medium to low quality beans.
Yeah, properly freeze-drying something really does preserve the flavor extremely well. So if your original product is good, the freeze-dried product will be, too.

You guys should visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Nakameguro, Japan. It’s different from the other roasteries and unique in its own ways. It’s a little far from Nakameguro station but I believe it’ll take around 15 to 25 minutes, depending on how fast you walk, to get to the roastery. The drinks and food there are a little expensive so you’d better bring maybe ¥5,000~¥10,000 with you. Or if you have a credit card, that’s fine too. Heads up, Starbucks cards bought outside Japan won’t work. The bakery there is excellent, just absolutely amazing. At times, there are long lines, so be wary of the times, best avoid lunch times, because it gets quite crowded during those times. But alas, lunch time is when the roastery has the most food so maybe go earlier? I went with a friend mid August at a little after 13:45 pm and my friend said that the pasta/spaghetti was amazing there and that I should try it but it was already sold out. I know I’ve already mentioned this but the cake and bakery there was amazing. The interior design, was amazing. The metal sakuras placed onto the walls are so pretty. On a different note, I’ve been meaning to send a box of Japanese snacks for quite a while now but never really had the time to put it together. I apologize for that...I’ve been a bit busy with college work and at my part time job-which is coincidentally working at Starbucks. Not the roastery but at a Starbucks Reserve. It’s a little different from your everyday Starbucks. At a Starbucks Reserve, you can get Reserve coffee/coffee beans that you can’t get at a normal Starbucks cafe. Although the Reserve coffee beans can be a bit pricey, I recommend you and all other JOLLY fans to try them out. Starbucks Reserve can be found in America and other countries as well. The way to identify a Starbucks Reserve cafe from a normal one is that there is a star and a line underneath the star, and below it, a capitalized “R”. I’ve only been to four Starbucks Reserve cafes in Japan: Nakameguro (Starbucks Reserve Roastery), Meguro (not to be confused with Nakameguro), Roppongi (in Tsutaya, a shop similar to Barnes&Nobles but with DVDs, anime, and alike), and Ginza. Annnddddd FUN FACT!!! The Starbucks Reserve cafe in Meguro is actually the 本店 which means its the headquarters for Starbucks in Japan. Although (sadly and unfortunately) it’s not available to the public, there is a laboratory on the 4th floor, where employees create new drinks, promotional drinks; special edition drinks for the holidays and alike. Maybe you could get a tour? I’m not really sure about that part, sorry about that... On the 14th floor, there is a huge lounge area for baristas, part timers, and office workers to meet and hang around, drink some coffee, work, and relax or do other things. There are couches, and comfy chairs, tables next to the amazing view. The lounge is designed to be convenient and comfortable to all workers, even part timers like me. I’m not sure if all employees (baristas) have this but at the Starbucks cafe I work at, workers get a 30% off of anything they buy with their ID card. Which to me is quite a lot, considering Starbucks coffee and other drinks are quite expensive compared to Tully’s or Doutor (a Japanese cafe). Relating to special edition drinks-this is to ALL JOLLY BEANS, the seasonal drinks are to TRY. You should definitely try some. Although it may be quite obvious, the seasonal drinks sold in Japan are only sold in Japan. SIDE NOTE: to me (and some of my friends), the drinks are less sweet than some of the drinks sold in America. So heads up to those who have a sweet tooth. And, we don’t have pumpkin spice latte because according to my coworkers, Starbucks tried to sell that in Japan a couple of times but it didn’t sell. I have no idea what it tastes like but I was kind of sad when I heard they aren’t sold in Japan. Bummer. Please note that we do not sell bottled beverages other than bottled water or packed juices. The food is amazing: the baked goods, cakes, the seasonal food, sandwiches, yogurt&bananas, and wraps and alike. > > > I feel like a lot of foreigners / even Japanese people, tend to go to places like Nara, Hiroshima, Osaka, and Kyoto for the holidays, as they are all pretty much next to one another. There is a Starbucks in Kyoto that is a MUST. The Starbucks cafe is located in a tatami styled 100-year old house and the design of everything is just A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. > > > Here is the name of the place: Starbucks Coffee Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya > > www.moshimoshi-nippon.jp/146049
I tried the lewak coffee on my trip to Bali back in August and its tastes super good! On the tour they did mention the lewak digests the first layer of the coffee bean and once pooped the beans are cleaned and the second layer is taken off and it’s roasted for 40 minutes.
My thoughts exactly! That's why baristas are so important. The person brewing the coffee might've burned all the bean-bought coffees. The moral of the vid could've been that you can't go wrong with an instant coffee.
I absolutely love and support your channel but I’m having a hard time focusing on this episode after recently watching the poor cats being caged in tiny boxes and given only the coffee fruit. Viewers will want to try it after watching you and support this horrible thing. Please reconsider posting things like this. Absolutely love you two❤️
The Nescafe instant has ground coffee in it which possibly makes it different from other instant coffees. If I have to drink instant it's my preferred type
Love the video, I reckon you'd think differently if you did the following: 1. Ground the beans in the correct way. 2. Use spring water from up north where the water is softer. 3. Brewed the coffee correctly. The bitterness comes from scorching the coffee with boiling water. Instead water should be about 80degreesC. Why not repeat the test but also include the method of making the coffee as part of the test?

The smoothest and most enjoyable things are never the most expensive. That's rule #1 for blind tasting (except for wine; nobody knows what's going on with wine). McDonald fries, Coca-Cola, and Budweisser are as smooth and enjoyable as things can get. Higher end products exist for people who find those things boring. The most complex flavors, whether you find them enjoyable or not, are usually the most expensive.

My mother once said that when she was a child, she used to collected luwak beans... she told me that luwak usually eat the biggest and the best beans... that's why coffee from Luwak is usually tasty ...but I guess, more demand makes Luwak capture and 'produce' more beans...
Price is not a problem. My fav coffee is a cheap 3 in 1 coffee mix. It has a really cheap coffee taste but it does not feel so badly thick like the expensive 1 we have here.
It also depends if you rinsed your mouth in between coffee tastes to get a clear taste and who brewed it. Maybe you should have had your friend brew it since hes a barista LOL love the video though 😂😂😋
For future reference I'd like to let you (or anyone reading) know there's some pretty bad animal cruelty involved in the making of luwak coffee. Just something worth thinking about before buying :) Other than that, great video as usual :)
I mean any time something is super expensive and rare, you probably will get counterfeiters who cut corners or just churn out completely fake product, because people wouldn't know the difference anyway. And brewing method is obviously important too, if Leo is professional they should have found a way to have him brew it and then the producers could choose the cups so that he doesn't know or something

how you guys brewed those beans? cause it really matters.
How? Gabie brewed them.
I guess that's who, not how. No offense, just curious.
@@hyunjoonlee5803 None taken. It's a "how" because I didn't just say "Gabie", and I explained in full: "Gabie brewed them."

as a coffee enthusiast and a broke college student i approve nescafe haha
Watching this, I now want them to have an episode with James Hoffmann!!! I reckon it’ll be a good episode.
the taste explanations and the result are just too funny!!!! lolololol

U’ve reached the peak of ridiculousness in this video among all the other price taste test videos u guys have😂😂
How you prepare the coffee also makes a massive difference. Most coffee is burned. Too hot water = bitterness.
I tried the lewak coffee on my trip to Bali back in August and its tastes super good! On the tour they did mention the lewak digests the first layer of the coffee bean and once pooped the beans are cleaned and the second layer is taken off and it’s roasted for 40 minutes.
I think the moral of the story is to never ask you guys about coffee😂But I wouldn't know better, I'd be drinking mud if all I know LOL
I feel like Ollie guessed more correctly than Leo 😅 but i’m relieved as well that Leo guessed the number 2 right!!
The taste of coffee affected a lot by the method/way you making it.
So yeah, maybe the one made it don't know how to properly make it.
My thoughts exactly! That's why baristas are so important. The person brewing the coffee might've burned all the bean-bought coffees. The moral of the vid could've been that you can't go wrong with an instant coffee.
@@breakfastatnight106 That's a good moral :P
Totaly depends on how the beans have been ground and brewed.. Just Saying.. x
I'm so early😁
I love you guys, greetings from Chile 😊
The expensive one is crapped by wild luak
The second tier is pet luak who running around inside coffee farm
I like this series~ very interesting!
Happy birthday Ollie!!!~~♡
Leo is the guy who poured himself a third shot of chilli Vodka, no?
Happy Birthday Ols!!!
I absolutely love and support your channel but I’m having a hard time focusing on this episode after recently watching the poor cats being caged in tiny boxes and given only the coffee fruit. Viewers will want to try it after watching you and support this horrible thing. Please reconsider posting things like this. Absolutely love you two❤️
"It got the aftertaste of a rodent poo" Really Olie, How do you know the taste of a rodent poo?
oh my god I thought he is Robin Williams I almost cry cuz Robin is one of my favorite actor of all time. remember him forever :(
Ahh.. so.. it'ss Leo, the one that fine when drinking Chilli Vodca in other episode isn't? I'm happy to recognize him
Ollie to josh: that's disgusting. can u do that in the privacy of your own home?
Then does this 3:58
Oh poor Leo, if only we can bring him back for a redemption round
The Nescafe instant has ground coffee in it which possibly makes it different from other instant coffees. If I have to drink instant it's my preferred type
Love the video, I reckon you'd think differently if you did the following:
I'm so proud! Nescafe for the win! I literally saved so much money making my own coffee at work with nescafe it's the best!
I'm proud of ALLPRESS holding its own. Well done.
Guys please, come back!
in indonesia, i always drink luwak coffee before sleep. love the strong taste and smooth texture
kopi luwak beneran apa yg di iklan2 itu ? klo yg di iklan2 itu mah kopi luwak boongan, kalo kopi luwak beneran ga mungkin lu minum sebelom tidur , lu kira susu indomilk ?
The smoothest and most enjoyable things are never the most expensive. That's rule #1 for blind tasting (except for wine; nobody knows what's going on with wine). McDonald fries, Coca-Cola, and Budweisser are as smooth and enjoyable as things can get. Higher end products exist for people who find those things boring. The most complex flavors, whether you find them enjoyable or not, are usually the most expensive.
Omg!!! Form Peru!!! That one is so goood! You should try ones tray are from the Amazonia way better
Never trust a coffee taste test to a nation of tea drinkers. 🙃🤣🤗
When you’re using the beans.. the taste would really depend on the method how it was prepared..
Well Josh, Ollie and Leo are not sleeping tonight.
My mother once said that when she was a child, she used to collected luwak beans... she told me that luwak usually eat the biggest and the best beans... that's why coffee from Luwak is usually tasty ...but I guess, more demand makes Luwak capture and 'produce' more beans...
You guys are just so funny~~😂 I wasn't drinking coffee but I have to watch this. I'm laughing while learning some new things! 😂😂😂 love you both.. 💜💜💜
leo's face drops more and more as the video goes on lmao
Saying the cheapest coffee better than the cheap coffee itself
Is loke entering the new dimension
Price is not a problem. My fav coffee is a cheap 3 in 1 coffee mix. It has a really cheap coffee taste but it does not feel so badly thick like the expensive 1 we have here.
Nescafé doesn’t play around you know.
Just something worth thinking about before buying :)
Other than that, great video as usual :)
If I ever have to have instant coffee I buy the Nescafé Azera! I’m not expert on coffee but I think it’s quite nice for an instant coffee 🤷🏽♀️

I hope the Luwak is well paid for their work.
