Gas or oil are the same setting, and heat or electric are also the same setting, correct? I think the explanation at 6:35-6:50 might have stated it differently. Thank you

      Most condensate overflow switches will come with a little wire diagram that shows how to wire it in. There is more than one way to do it so I am not sure if I can explain this in a comment without seeing it. If I get a chance later on, I will make a video on that, thank you for the video idea. In minute 6:36 you state the mode switch is either gas or oil. That is not correct. The two positions are fossil fuel (gas or oil) or electric. I notice that your thermostat is set for gas or oil.

You usually write a comment fairly quickly after I post a video so when I didn't see one from you I had a feeling something may have happened. Unfortunately my bad premonition turned out to be right. I don't know what I can tell you in this situation... May you heal up and get rid of that pneumonia swiftly! I attend a prayer meeting at my church every week, I will ask them to pray for you David. May you feel the presence of the Lord in your life!
      Yeah, I didn't show my face this time 😅 I was going to film a different video but my wife was sick and feeling really weak so I didn't have my favorite camera person to help me out for a week or so. A tripod and a wiring diagram seemed like a good alternative. Anyway, pass on our greetings to Arnold, God bless and stay warm in that cold weather!!

    Love the breakdown of the internal of the heat, off, cool switch. However, two things to clarify: 1. On the ladder diagram use only one bi-metal and position the switch from R in-between the W and the Y contacts. Show the bi-metal symbol on TOP of the switch. The interpretation is still the same R closes to W on a drop in temp. (Heat), and R closes to Y on a rise in temp. (Cool). 2. Draw the Fan switch pivoting on the G terminal and vertically touching Y for the auto setting, and toggling down to R for the ON setting. This indicates that the fan goes to high indoor fan relay coil on a call for cooling - R to Y and simultaneously to G. R to G just fan on high.
    The heat anticipator and cooling anticipator found in mechanical stats are an added complication. Fortunately the people who still use them aren't troubled by it.

    Very nice presentation of some of the basics. What I'm looking for is what type of component is used to perform the connection of the 24V to either W, Y or G. Is it a relay or a solid state component? It must have quite low control current demand (high impedance input) since the two AA cells in my thermostat last a very long time. I'm going to use a standard thermostat as a hand-held device along with a wireless transmitter so I can move the thermostat to anywhere in the room. The receiver will be at the location of the existing thermostat wiring (which is in the wrong place to adequately control room temperature). So the receiver needs to switch the 24VAC and it must be battery powered as there is no house power nearby.

    I always enjoy your lectures.
    All are good lectures.
    I am curious that when R and W are open, 24 volts are output, but when they are closed, 0 volts are output.
    Since English is a problem, I will ask you a question using Google Translator.

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  5 місяців тому +2

      Glad to hear you like the lectures! Thank you.
      R and W are wired like a light switch. There is no neutral. So when the switch is closed R and W become connected, like a single piece of wire.
      It is like testing voltage by putting both of your meter leads on the same spot. There is no change or drop off of voltage so it reads 0 volts.

    Thanks for the post. Here is my question...who was the idiot that named the wiring? Why not call "R" terminal "24V" as in power, or Yellow wire "C" as in cooling, or "G" as "F" as in fan? The control board is complicated enough, why use lettering that do not match their function?

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  2 роки тому +1

      Haha I totally understand the sentiment. Sometimes I think they purposely make things more difficult than they need to be. In their defense though, I think they may have labeled them according to the wire colors. Like this: G-wire - Fan, usually green. Y-wire - Cooling, usually yellow. W-wire - Heat, usually white.

    If I set my thermostat FAN control to auto, it should stay on , correct ? It doesn't come on. If I jumper R to W on my thermostat block and again on the control board my furnace should start working, correct ? It doesn't. I did however notice and an end pin on my thermostat was badly bent so I straightened it out so it would seat and make contact again. At the door switch, when open, I get 63 volts on AC. I measured all my breakers and got 120 v to ground, so I don't think I'm missing a phase. Although my problem started a couple days ago when the hydro company popped my meter off for an inspection. Would I still get 120 off every breaker with a bad neutral if they messed that up ? I did not measure any voltages on the terminal blocks. I'm guessing it should be some low dc voltage ?

      There is a 24v power wire that comes from the furnace and gets hooked up to the R terminal on the thermostat. The thermostat gets it's power from the furnace and the batteries are only a backup so if your power goes out, the thermostat will not shut off.
