A nice kovachii hybrid is Eumilia Arias which is not a very big plant or if you wanted something a little smaller try a Robert Jan Quene........Both have beautuful blooms.

@@ResQuetzal Many congratulations on the purchase. I don't know the size of your kovachii but if it is small it will be a very slow grower, when it gets larger it will grow much quicker. Hi Paula The phragmipediums I find to be very easy providing you can give them good quality water.....and you only need to feed them twice per year on Fish/ Blood and Bone.......generally May and November......with a tsp sprinkled on top of the compost. It's a long lasting fertilizer so never be afraid that you are underfeeding. I have been using this method for several years.......... in my opinion it is a little strong to use on other genuses. My good friend Rick L and I are usually close on the care of plants although we don't use the same substrate. Ed.
So sorry for the long delay in replying..... don't know how I missed it. When you get your next phrag just make sure it keeps wet with good quality water....... in my opinion rainwater is still the best. Ed

Don't disturb it once the roots have started growing. This young plant will like the morning sun but not in the afternoon. I would feed the young plant on calcium and seaweed extract until it gets big enough to be transplanted.........don't let it dry out completely.....just keep it damp and try to keep the roots cool if possible, Ed.
Hi Ed, I bought my first phragmapedium Hanne Popow x Longifolium. Svetlana’s happy orchids highly recommended your chànnel as the best about phragmapediums. Since I heard that it is needed to be wet I think I overwatered it a little bit or water touched the stem and one of the leaves became yellow. Shall I cut off the black rot from the stem and put some fungicide or it will be ok without it when I reduce the watering? Do you water your phrags accurately not watering the stem just put the water near the edge of the pot?
Very nice of Lana to recommend you to me. If you look back at my phrag videos tou will notice that I water my phrag continually during the warmer months butin the winter I will water them perhaps 3 times per week with RO water. If the water you use id good and low in tds then I am sure that any rot you have has been caused by some other form. If it's one of the lower leaves which has turned yellow I wouldn't worry about it.....either take it off by pushing down on its base or you can leave it on and let nature take its course. Just check in the axle of the leaf for mealy bug!!! I can't make comment on the 'black bit' not being able to see the 'problem', You cannot over water phragmipediums if the water you are using is good and cool......they like cool roots. Sorry but I can't be more specific on this subject. i wish you all the best for your plant and thank you for the question. Ed.
Hi Ed, I have a few Korvachii hybrids, Fritz Schomburg and Lovely Lyne. You mentioned in a previous reply that you feed other Phrag with fish blood and bone meal twice a year I think. Do you do the same for Korvachii hybrids or do you use the Calcium Nitrate/Epsom Salts method?
Good evening Lawrence and thanks for your question. I'm back on the FB& Bone for all the phrags now and for just twice per year. They did marvellous on that in 2018/9 but when I went back on the calcium Epsom salts in 2020 it had adverse effects on them........I don't know why it was just one of those things.....unexplainable. Just try the FBB for 6 months I am sure you will see the benefits to your orchids... Ed..
Hi Helen. The kovachi specie gets fed twice per month and flushed very regularly. The hybrids get the FBS treatment like all the other phrags and also with regular flushes. Thanks for the comment. Ed.
Thanks! considering your experience if I want to make one gallon of fertilizer how much calcium and epsom salts should i add in grams or tbsp...i dont have a pps meter :(...but do have a water osmosis system!
Hi Rose you can't guess on this one regarding calcium nitrate and epsom salts. A tds pen is essential in this matter. They are very, very cheap on eBay .... the last one I bought was less than £5. Seeing you have an osmosis system the water quality should be perfect so please get a tds pen and then you know exactly what you are giving your plants..... you wont be sorry for the purchase. Ed
Hi anastasia. I water my kovachii's two or three times per week in summer months and just around once per week in winter especially if the humidity is high. Just keep your plant wet and you wont go far wrong.... they're very hardy once they have settled into the conditions you give them. Thank you for looking, Ed.

@@anastasiastratos5044 Good evening anastasia. I don't sit my Phrags in water..... I prefer to water regularly with clean water. It's fine to stand in water but you must change the water every couple of days or so to avoid the water becoming stagnant. Kovachii are great calcium lovers so you should add growstones to the substrate. Some people say that you should add limestone ... this is OK but limestone is only soluble in cold water and you wouldn't water the plants with cold water......phrags like a water temp of around 15c. A drop of seaweed extract in the water for every watering wont do the plants any harm.....it's good for the roots being a micronutrient. You could add a little garden lime to the water for calcium purposes, but not too much, every month. Hope this helps you a little..have a good week. Ed.
