Ken Burns is a poet. And a real national treasure.
And I love that Conan brought him on, because it is so important for there to be space in pop culture for people like Mr. Burns.
Conan's intelligence is really attractive... :/ I admire Ken's eloquence, as well. Great pleasure to hear both of them converse
Man, Ken Burns really is a genius of our time
"A picture is no longer worth 1000 words..."
Damn.
Conan your speech at Dartmouth is the first text you see when you open my journal. I wrote it before anything else went there. Your comedy helps me in the down times and your inspiring words keep me strong at all times. Thanks! Love form Argentina
I ❤ this
After a rough, tiring day at work, I was in the mood for some light, mindless entertainment. Instead, I accidentally clicked on this video, got drawn into it, and found myself saying, "Man, this is really interesting!" several times. Now I feel enriched instead of mindlessly entertained. I knew that Conan had gone to either Harvard or Yale (forgot which)--and here it really shows. And speaking of poetic speech writers and orators, Ken Burns has a natural poetic way of speaking that makes me want to lean in and listen, to digest and understand every word. And now that I've been enlightened, I'm gonna go and watch some Russian dash-cam car crash videos....
He went to harvard. and ya it's amazing when u can tell someone is really really smart. they become instantly captivating
Maybe this is the tiredness of the end of the day talking or maybe it is because of how much I felt identified by that comment, but what the hell, I'm just going to say it.
That comment was beautiful.
The world could use more conversation like this.
The history of baseball by Ken Burns was amazing.
I never was a fan of Conan as a comedian, but I have become a real fan of his doing interviews like this one. The reason is that, as an interviewer, he isn't intent on touting himself but rather asks intelligent questions that allows the interviewee to tell their story in their own way. This is a technique that is sadly lacking in today's media, not everyone can do this, and I really appreciate Conan doing it. Looking forward to more interviews! Also, Ken Burns is the best documentarian and speaks to two audiences in his stories. The first is today's audience so we can be entertained but also educated so that history is not forgotten. The second is the audience 50 or 100 years from now who can learn from and build on mistakes and wisdom from the past. I have learned the passion of this from Ken Burns.
A lot of Conan's comedy is misleadingly self-important. He's essentially parodying TV personalities that are full of themselves, not unlike Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report (though not Colbert's more recent talk show personality.)
@@revnede Colbert sucks.
It's easy to see just how passionate both Ken and Conan are about history. Great talk.
Fascinating talk. Ken Burns is brilliant and insightful. And so is Conan.
PS: still waiting impatiently for new Jibber Jabber episodes 😢
I am absolutely in awe of the intellect, accomplishments and composure of Ken Burns. This series (Serious Jibber Jabber) is fantastic.
I love this series, it's so interesting to just hear two people talk intelligently about a topic for an extended period of time.
Yes. He should make this in to a podcast or something. I know some people resent the whole podcast trend, regard it as less intellectual and whatnot, but I do enjoy a display of brains once in a while. Conan is such a diverse person, he could do it.
@@MiotaLee your wish was granted
I love this man, I wish I could get my friends and family as obsessed with his documentaries as I am
i can hear ken talk all day
I'm so glad I clicked on this video. You are doing a great service Mr. O'Brien.
I just like that Conan got Ken Burns to say 'swirly-cone'.
Haha, but what a seriously fantastic interview. Never heard of Ken but I've since watched a few of his documentaries. The Roosevelt's was incredibly well done. Too bad Conan stopped doing these things, no money in it I guess.
More episodes of Serious Jibber Jabber on UA-cam, please! This was wonderful.
I very much look forward to the Roosevelt documentary. It sounds amazing.
Can listen to Ken Burns all day. He oozes passion for history and it shows when he talks.
This is a wonderful exchange between two brilliant people.
Everyone is talking up Burns, but it must be said that Conan is no slouch here either.
watched it all -- absolutely brilliant
Conan's love for history shows in this video.
Absolutely loved this. I had never read the Gettysburg address until after i finished watching this, absolutely incredible. thanks so much Conan! you truly are an inspiration, i really look up to your intelligence. That goes for ken burns as-well someone ill indefinitely be making myself much more familiar with in the near future! thanks so much again!
Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon is flipping cups and doing water wars on the Tonight Show...
Conan will be forever 10 million times more talented than Fallon, F* that guy
abst mad lad
Yep. Conan is a true class act. He is what every other talk show host tries to be
There’s worth in both.
and with Trump
these serious jibber jabber episodes can and should be a Netflix series.
I am literally one of the biggest con and fans of all time, I have been watching him religiously since he debuted in the early 90s. I stumbled across one of these videos a few months ago, and I'm so glad I get to watch this series now. I really enjoy Conan hosting a serious discussion, and showing off his educated history chops
Awesome. Glad to see this kind of conversation propagated perhaps/hopefully to the wider public through a medium/channel like this. Thx Team Coco/Conan and K. Burns.
Enormously engaging. Keep it up, Conan.
It was posted 10 minutes ago, the full video is 1:04:19, and someone already disliked it, what the heck with these haters.
you can find this interview elsewhere on the internet
daniel curatolo they must have really hated it then if they watched it elsewhere and looked it up on youtube to dislike it.
My gut says daniel is that hater
This should be a required watch for everyone living in 2020
On a Ken B binge ….Conan and Ken nothing better than that
Love the discussion near the end about The Roosevelts. Looking forward tot eh documentary! Also, nice to see this side of Conan. :)
This was amazing. Thanks Conan, please keep this up.
So this is what it feels like to sitting at the feet of brilliance. This was absolutely beautiful. I look forward to your next Serious Jibber-Jabber.
I saw the whole thing. GREAT Jibber-Jabber. Love u Conando.
This was uploaded 8 min ago, how did u watch the whole thing?
Bryan Litan Exactly. +1 for your avatar. Knowhamsayin aahhh! no ragrets

We want more of these!
Love the nuanced quality of Ken Burns discourse. So much knowledge, passion and research of subject matter to achieve this kind of discussion. ❤
Thank you. This was a humbling experience
There simply can not be enough conversation between these two brilliant minds.
Thankfully, it's a conversation that many continue to have, now, in these times of tremendous social struggle. As we stretch beyond our complacency, toward integrity and justice, we must stay resolute, keep pressing. We're here to finish what Lincoln started.
Really like Ken Burns, empathetic, articulate & genuine
I wanna hear Jay Leno talk about Lend-Lease and the power of brevity in political speeches.
abst mad lad
"I wanna hear" the pompous and self-important O'Brien "talk about" mechanics, the internal combustion engine and the history of the automobile...
@@manofiske3318 is the internal combustion engine complicated now or something
...so relaxing to watch two charming, intelligent men have an interesting and eloquent discourse.
Thank you Thank you Thank you! I did not know Ken Burns. I streamed tears through most of this interview. There is a reason Conan you have the reach you do, and this is one.
The honesty of these two men based on their intellect is stimulating. Thank you for sharing.
For any history buff... this is an amazing conversation!
Am I seriously about to watch a 1 hour video about a 2 minute speech? Why yes I am.
Fantastic thoughtful conversation about history, I love this series.
Please make more you glorious red headed man
haha you are alright Charlie.
This is just the most beautiful thing I have ever heard or watched. I kinda wanna wrap myself in their words and intelligence.
Me too. Let's just wrap in it together for the scores of time Anna.
This was really, really great. Thanks so much for sharing.
2022,.....Excellent. Educational and fun.
Two of my favorite people having an inspiring, in depth chat; this is amazing
21:41 A hint towards one of the best, if not the greatest (war) documentary ever made
Thanks to both, for the clarity.
Loved this...wish it was an hour longer.
Been waiting for this for weeks!
Please make more of these videos, Conan. They're wonderful!
This is a magnificent hour of conversation. How wonderful. I love this. More people should see this.
Fantastic interview, one of the best in a long while! Thank you, Conan!!!
Huge fan of both spiritual beings. Really admire their minds and hearts--so beautifully lush and moving....and rare, unfortunately.
TWO of my favorite Television personalities, sitting and discussing something that has always held meaning for me. WIN-WIN-WIN. Thank you Mr O'brien and Mr Burns.
Really enjoyed this :)
Nice to hear a smart conversation for once, keep up the good work Conan !!!
Wonderful discussion, intelligent and eloquent, full of morality and truth. Lovely to listen to, and I have a great respect for Ken Burns now, I'm excited to watch his documentaries! Thanks TeamCoco!
I'm glad that somebody took up Rose's slack....... Conan is actually quite good at this. Very intelligent interview. I guess you have to be when you're interviewing Ken Burns. Mr Burns is a national treasure. I own everything he has ever done..... The Civil War, Baseball, and Lewis & Clark..... I watch at least once or twice a year.
I just love Conan. His intelligence, his wit and of course when he is “silly” Conan best of all.
I flipping love these.
I am 62 years old....and I had to learn and publicly recite the Gettysburg Address to graduate from 5th grade...about age 10.
incredible conversation...
This has been an hour that i dont want back. It has been informative, educational, humorous, and every minute entertaining. Thank you...p.s. never much cared for Conan....now i am impressed.now to watch his Dartmouth college speech......i think thats the speech....
Great discussion. Thanks Conan for doing this
Great discussion. Thanks Conan.
It seems as if every single word Ken Burns pronounces is like a lesson in humanity and decency. Love this man.
Anyone else see the thumbnail for this and assume it was Simon Pegg in a Beatles wig?
Damn CoCo you are one smart dude.
He has a history Degree at Harvard :)
I believe comediens are great thinkers. Jay Leno bright and funny too so grounded by his parents. LENO had learning problems but still found his way. I hear Doris Kearns Goodwin whispering and hypnotic like Ken.
Social differences. Lead to political and economic settings. South Carolina so important.
Thankyou Conan, these are great!
Great interview, Conan.
Hmm. This is a good idea for Conan, though I couldn't watch more than ten min or so if this. With other guests I would be interested- I just haven't seen this person's documentaries. This is a great move because he can do longer conversations, which Jimmy can't. I have often thought that I watch all these talk show clips of actors when I'm more interested in the directors or producers.
Ken Burn's baseball was one of the first books i remember ever seeing
Wish these where released as podcast as well as videos. Would be more than willing to pay fo it!
The font makes it look like his name is Ken Bums.
Most awesome "UA-cam" birthday present ever! Thanks Coco
Wonderful gem of a discussion, Ken's position on the government is important and refreshing to hear. Thanks Conan.
More people need to see this
This is an area Conan should go if Late Night doesn't work out.
+tkegal well...
tkegal He will be ok. He has worked in late night since 1993.
I loved this so much! Thanks! But one thing, I noticed some disapprobation of the young people here. Having worked with a few of them in my last job (I retired recently) I’m really full of hope that things will work out in the end, short attention spans or not.

Heroism
We are in such need of a Lincoln or a Kennedy and look what we have this year....God help us!
We do have people in this country with enormous intellect, courage and integrity who could potentially rise to the level of a Lincoln or a Kennedy. Unfortunately, the political and media landscape of today would likely stop at nothing to reveal and capitalize on such a person's shortcomings. Both Lincoln and Kennedy, however great, were also flawed men. Many of their faults were simply not publicized or used against them at the time, allowing them the space to maneuver more effectively as president. Sadly, the level of scrutiny and zeal for transparency in today's fast-paced media world -- not to mention, the insufferable partisanship -- has made politicians overly-cautious, robotic, scripted, disingenuous and unable to govern effectively when so many in the public are saturated with misinformation.
47imagine
How strange it is in 2020 to hear them talk with the presumption that the president is the consoler in chief.
How far we have fallen.
It is one of the most interesting talk I have seen so far on UA-cam! Amazing how the conversation flows. They complet each other in a perfect way. There is an other conversation with Conan O'brien at the JFK library. If you liked this one, I really recommend it to you to watch.
I have watched almost all of these Jibber-Jabber talks.. Do you know some other good and serious conversation with Conan O'brien participating in it?
+Yannick Scheidegger Google talk, Dartmouth Speech, White House Dinner, I think there was some Irish center speech and a few other universities. Nothing as intellectual as this
Conan! I love to learn about History and like Abraham Lincoln too!!!
If there was one man in history I could have a conversation with it would be Conan. Call that pathetic but thats just the way it is. I think history will be kind to Conan.
This is absolutely brilliant. It's a more serious side to conan which I'd like to see more off. However, I would like to see Conan discuss scientific discoveries and topics relating to that to see his views, because personally that's what I'm interested in. Either way, I think this is a really good idea.
iam watchin this whole damn video
I love the history ones:)
51:37 ...called it
I love you, Conan!! You're one of the most intelligent persons on earth.
Thanks Conan!
"We live in a consumer culture in a sort of completely disposable present where you can just buy your happiness, but of course the inevitable vicissitudes are going to visit all of us, and what are you going to fall back on?" Great great quote
