Regere Sinister (Finland) - Inside the Eye of Horned Winds (Album 2024)

Finally, after three splits and one demo, and an already impeccable discography, these Finnish maniacs unleash their first full-length liturgy of desecration.
A duo formed by Heidi Kettunen and Hail Conjurer, whose works under acts like Ride for Revenge, Horse Latitudes, Depravement, etc. and utter devotion to the darkest of underground arts should need no introduction.
"Inside the Eye of Horned Winds" sees the project traverse a path that is probably most similar to their material on the brilliant split with their compatriots in Moonfall. The sound on this album is definitely a bit tighter and more lapidated than some of their most rotten and noisy material which was clearly more inspired by the demonic crudeness of Asaradel, Invoker and other Barbacena hordes.
By any means this is a clean record however, as the old school cavernous sound production is still very present, however it most surely fits the band's Greek-influenced Black/Doom style, that seems to search more for 80's Heavy Metal and Traditional Doom influenced projects such as Lemegethon, Varathron, Xantotol, early Samael, etc. The band's sound is still very much bass-driven with Heidi's pulsating, bulldozing basslines and demonic vocal style leading the ritual, but there's definitely more carefully planned and intricate layering over with a tighter guitar sound and layering with different leads and arpeggios. Some of the more shamanic passages as well as the Ambient interlude and outro also definitely reminisce with Xantotol or Archangellus' much overlooked masterpiece, "Magnus Ominis Umbra".
One of the best and few acts keeping the flame of satanic, occult and rotten Black Doom alive with a record that most surely lives up to the expectations. Soon to be released via Nuclear War Now! Productions on LP format.
