Thanks for posting your video. I'm thinking about servicing my 91 vanagon. It is leaking tranny fluid which I understand is not uncommon. But like you said do the maintenance before the catastrophe happens and save your money. I have a large O ring for the "Governor" plate. Are you familiar with that? I've got to grab my Bently manual and identify where it is.
Only VW could make a 3 speed, non lockup converter automatic this mind numbingly complex. Absolutely hateful design. Instead of having the fluid pump directly behind the converter, being driven by it like nearly every other automatic transmission - there's that looooong "pump shaft". And then there's the insanity of passing the drive though the center of the transmission, and then back. I wonder if the inner shaft counter rotates against the final drive or not. Hope you didn't get the seals in wrong. I did, once. Caused the final drive to flood with transmission fluid to the point that it started erupting out of the final drive vents. Augh!

When you removed the transmission, did you support the final drive with a jack?
How did you get all of the shafts to line back up when u put it back in?
Did you change the seal at the main pinion of your tranny? The side of the TC. Mine is leaking like crazy, so i'm gonna replace it.
Very helpful as that's what I'm doing now the gearbox is off. Do you know the part numbers of these seals as I'm not 100% sure which they are?
I was going to ask the same thing! I went to SKF but there are many references and they don't look like the ones you picked.
