- ST Focus Oil & Filter Change.
Had the pleasure of a ford focus st in for an oil & filter change along with a new fuel filter. The passenger front door edge protector was broken which is something i have not come across so was interesting and also an easy fix.
The owner of the vehicle was happy for us to make a video showcasing his car which gave me great pleasure and a fun day, many thanks to neil for trusting us with his car😁🤪
I love your videos 100% down to earth genuine guy keep up the good work..
Glad the owner gave his blessing for the road test. Some owners would be very precious about who and why its being driven. Keep them coming. Always entertaining and informative 👍
Yes I gave my blessing and they took real great care of my car and Alan did a brilliant job.
@@neilandbradley6845 she looks to be a mint example of a Focus ST diesel. I very nearly bought one back in 2017. Only available in manual I think which is annoying
Yeah, I'm working on cars in the states, this Focus ST is an everyday kind of car around here.
that door protector has just blown my mind amazing invention!
I got the stage 3 from Pumaspeed, 278 bhp and 580nm.
nice
Editing skills like a pro Alan 👍🏻
I've got a MK4 Mondeo 2.5t if you want to do some content on it mate 👍
looking to get one of these next year :)
Great video Alan and a nice car it’s a Good idea on putting the oil on the filter seal as it stops the rubber seal rucking up
Yep a well known tip that's been around for a long time
Can I bring mine down for oil service how much u charge I’ve got the exactly the same car in the same colour too lol 😆
Nice car but petrol one for me, don't fancy a STD
All us Neils always have great cars...
Im not the Neil in the vid...
who the hell designs these engine connectors......soo cool
Thankyou Miss M91 and Alan
N x
Thanks, I know a few Neils too who have nice cars, I was very impressed with the service that Alan did on my Focus and both Alan and Monica took great care of it.
My wife is the only one in our family who does top up the washer bottle.
Good lord, Alan in pair of hot pants, now there's a image i can't get out of my head😂😁😆
Not only a Focus can be beautiful, a Mondeo Mk5 can also: mondeo-mk5.de/gallery/index.php?user-image-list/33-linza4/
btw: 2 l Diesel, Powershift, AWD, 200 HP , 450 Nm torque (chipped) ;-)
Firstly a massive thanks to you Alan as I bought a focus st diesel a few months ago, after watching this video decided to service the st myself wasn't I lucky to do so as oil filter was only finger tight no tools needed.
Without watching this video I may well of finished up with a much bigger bill👍👍👍👍👍
Ps I have never seen a car mechanic get so excited servicing a car before. cheers Geoff.
Thank you Monica ;) bada bing!!!!
Thanks alan great video. Love the car!!!
Monica should wear a bikini
I've had a Focus 2011 Mk3 (pre-facelift), with the 2.0TdCi 136hp, it was a great car, this one is even faster, great video Alan! I'm only typing this so I can say; Monika is very beautiful :D :)
Hi Alan, great video, and lovely car I can't blame monika for wanting to come in on her day off, and a bonus you let her drive it, great slow-motion at the end, keep up the good work.
Thanks, im glad Monika came in on her day off.
Gonna do mine next weekend, as it’s just came up on oil change required, only had it 3 months and was told it was serviced before I got it… been advised to change it anyways
great vid Alan and Monika ive always put oil on my new filter nice to see you respcting this special car with FOMOCO parts worth the few quid more keep em coming pmsl when you said if you find bits of swarf etc in the fuel filter the hp pump could be going out my advice trade it in ASAP lol
You know that pipe on the fuel filter you said don't force, I did... snap. New part ordered and the car isn't moving for a few days
i too have broke one in the past,
@@alan4x is there a way of loosening some bolts around the filter housing to gain a bit more wiggle room?
@@darren4428 there are 4 10mm headed bolts holding the filter housing aluminium casing to the engine...if you loosen them you will get a bit more room to remove that awkward pipe
11:24 First time i hear that dry fitting oil filter? Every oil filter company prints oil drop cans on the filter backs for no reason?
Next you say that some one says that it's better to leave the old oil filter gasket in the engine for better sealing effect?
I have done it and the oil drained like a champion when the engine was running ;)
Edit: 12:42 Good to know im not only one that had that filter come lose. Good thing is that my boss's knows me so 3litre oil and filter tightening bill made them wonder too...
i love how the engine oil was black immediately ! that's the diesel engine for you.
Just about to do service on mine, you sound more excited about it than I do 😅 I have the same colour 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed the video Alan, if i do the hand tight thing on my connect oil filter it always comes loose, 25.11 conformation of my dirty mind.
Much nicer than the new shape.
Hi Alan. I appreciate your very very busy but several people on the relevant forums have asked me to contact you with regards to an ongoing warm start issue with my mk3 st diesel. Do you have contact details please as this is something a little long winded and complicated to annotate it?
I think we'd all like to take Monika for a test drive!
Hi Allan, can I just say good video. But a bit early with music. Carol of the bells in summer🤔
surprised they didn't make a Mondeo ST with this engine. All the toys and it only has 180hp. Such a pitty!
Marie was jolly.
lol
Been asked a few times by fellow owners of the servicing process for these and I have to say I've shared your video more times than I can even think of. Absolutely brilliant content and brilliantly explained; top job keep it up 👏🏼
No hand shaking....... tut tut
Alan top video the best yet with the cam and slow mo...looks really professional keep it up
So the engine is the same as fitted to your taxi fleet but ecu tweaked to give more power (182bhp). Its also the same engine as fitted to my 2018 Kuga (178bhp) AWD, but wait it can be tweaked further to 225bhp by reprogramming the ecu. Guess what I'm asking Santa for this Christmas!
I have a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec S if you want to fix it lol ;-)
🤣
@@alan4x Little story for this one. Failed the MOT on emissions, for my 2.0 tdci (130) the limit should be about 1.27 average, mine was 2.45 overall on the 6 peak tests. So... as I use my bike for work and no one going out the car has sat for a while through this shitty lockdown. The mot tester said there is too much smoke coming out like black on hard throttle when its being tested should be almost clear, he said put some stuff in it to clear it out so i did wynns emissions cleaner stuff £6 with £30 worth of v power diesel! ragged the crap out of it in mexico at a decent 70mph in 4th on a trip to no where and back. Due to work i only had 4 days left of the 10 for the free mot re test. I took it back and he said naa still doing it, so i`m like blx.. took it home to find the intercooler to inlet pipe was split phoned Ford they wanted £107 + vat.. eww sod that! evilbay £18 !! paid the extra to try get it here quicker so I could fit it but got here too late I finished work the same time they did so im now just going to wait and fit it over the weekend and hope this might clear the problem ? My thinking is that the high revs the fuel is being fed in but not enough boosted air pressure for the amount of fuel being pumped in causing the smoke. I`ll have the EGR off when i replace the pipe to see if thats clogged up and change the air filter. Might even wash it and whip the hoover round if it works :) I did say to it, if you are really good ill get the wax out!!
a split turbo hose will cause serious soot build up and once you replace the hose you will need to give it a good thrashing... there will be clouds of smoke out the exhaust in some cases
@@alan4x oh yeah will give it a little drive when its done. The car never gets thrashed so ill probly notice the power difference once it returns.
Plastic sump and metal oil filter Jesus Christ ford what are u doing... And this is the future of cars 🥴🥴
Hi Alan! Fun videos as usual! Do you put 0w30 oil in all the diesel cars? Also what can happen if my local service put 5w30 in my 1.5 tdci? :-$
yes i use ow/30 in all these engines but i don't think 5w/30 will hurt, the reason they use ow/30 is because it is low ash oil and good for the longenity of the dpf
nice car with my fav color 💛💛💛
mk5 ST in impaact blue is lovely also.
Two questions spring to mind, how does she drive in those shoes and how does she get into those trousers :)
My father said yellows a maniacs colour loooooool 😃😂😁😀
Allan- you know you can easily remap one or two taxis to have 180HP using forscan- just change the power rating - the map is already there- just activate it. Nice video as allways
Coor a Mondeo St Taxi high performance , its worth a crack
Or get around 220bhp with an actual remap. The difference it makes to a 150 is night & day
Don't you have to prime the New oil filter before putting it back on also did you change the pollen filter Great video Alan
you can prime the filter but many cars because of the angle the filter sits at you can't, there is a fuse you are supposed to remove and then crank the engine over a number of times to get the oil through the filter but probably best to just half fill the filter..no i didn't change the pollen filter on that car, cheers john
Thank you so much I done my worst fear on this fuel filter and I took just 15 mints to change all filter u are the lad 👍
Great 👍
Great video Alan ive been watching your videos since speaking to you about the 1.8 lynx wet belts!
I've got an focus st2 with the dw10 engine in. I know they're a good unit! Smashing video thanks look forward to more!
thanks mrRitchie225😁
i have a 2013 2.0tdci 163 my oil filter is buried near fuel filter
Just so you know how and why the oil filter comes loose when fitting a new one it should be hand tightened fully then turned 3 quarters of a full turn with a special tool. The reason is because this engine dosent have a balance shaft so vibrated its own oil filter loose. 👍
thanks lol
Great video Alan, and Monica coming in on her RDO to drive the ST. 👍
Great to see. When you expect mondeo 2.0 fuel filter replacement movie? Great to watch you
cheers rafal
My kind regards to miss m and the rest of the fantastic team
I am just curious. Why u didnt bleed the system after changing fuel filter?
there is an electric pump in the fuel tank to push the fuel through so no bleeding required
ALAN MY FAVOURITE CAR MATE MY MATE HAD ONE FAST AS OUT FLYING MACHINE 😊
Great job alan, thanks mrs m,neil, wow an ST in garage whats next a cossie maybe😃
A Cossie would be brilliant, which I still had my F reg Sapphire Cosworth. Alan did a great job on my Focus and I was very impressed with the service.
hi, because you have not filled the glass of the diesel filter with diesel.
Nice piece of machinery.
Question for you Alan, what's your thoughts on filling the oil filter before fitting?
My first thought as well.
Peugeot and Citroen badge on the filter no wonder they want to cover it
What has 220bhp and 470nm of torque?
My Mk5 Deep Impact Blue Ford Mondeo MK5 2.0 TDCi Powershift - remapped from 180 bhp and 420nm. Codename - Thundercat
Bluefin from Superchips - I guess ;-)
@@richardbauer8154 No mate. Done by A1 Remapping at Hull.
What has 224bhp & 471nm? My mondeo mk5 remapped from 150 ☺️
I love my ST250, perfect car
So same engine as the taxis what sort of miles they good for ?
The oil on the seal ring serves 2 purposes...
1) to lubricate it when tightening to prevent damage
2) to actually form a better seal - imagine 2 pieces of glass pressed together face to face, they'd be easy to separate... Now wet one of them and press them again... Virtually impossible to pull apart 😉
3) allows for easier separation whdn changing the filter - all the other oil seals aren't part of a routine maintenance, therefore the task of removing old seals isn't seen as an issue!
Fantastic video. 👏🏼👌🏼
Would you be interested in doing a cam belt and waterpump change on my 2013 st250? Would love a video made for your channel for it aswel
Timing chain I think 🤔
@@PHIL0098 you could be right im not 100% sure
This my favorite model ford focus st
Hi Alan.
In your opinion is it worth having walnut blasting done on the inlet ports of these 2.0 TDCi's ? Are they prone to building up with carbon to the stage it effects performance ?
Thanks.
Those inlet ports will always get oily. They don’t build up carbon like you would have seen in a mk3 mondeo 2.0 tdci.
Personally I would leave them alone. Do regular oil changes using the correct oil. Avoid short journeys and use good quality diesel fuel. Many have said although more expensive than supermarket fuel you get better mpg and performance
@@alan4x
Thanks for the reply Alan.
Yeah supermarket fuel is a no go for me. Don't even think we've many supermarket forecourts here in Ireland compared to the UK when I think of it.
I might try a hydro clean and see if it helps. 🤞🏼
Spot On !!
Wow that car is absolutely pristine..a credit to the owner for looking after it. Brilliant cars.
Good editing here too - nice job 👍
Morning Alan and Monica 😄 You must try hot pants for your UA-cam family lol 😂 If I lived locally I'd definitely use you for my car servicing especially when you oil your ring hehe 😂 That's some motor but at at 20K plus a lot o dosh for a Ford 😂 You could imagine the faces on your taxi drivers if you re-mapped their cars 🤣 Take care till the next so see ya 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie 😎
nice work thank again canada
Hey Allen, all your mk5 2.0 tdci can be upgraded to 180bhp without special tuning devices/software. The software it is the same and it is needed just to be unlocked. :)
Hello Alan, great and very informative video btw! Just a question, my focus st has come up with the code P228C. I've changed the fuel filter as many suggested as this solved it for them however it didn't for me. I went for a drive and drove hard on 4th gear but it lost all power when the revs hit around 3500-4000rpm. Any idea what I could replace to solve this problem or any ideas what it could be? thank you!
Alan, ever driven a TXS mk4 mondeo? They are specced out too. Mines got everything you can think of lol. love it.
And 200bhp, or atleast my 2.2 does
@@dehv yep same here 👍
An ST with a deisel engine ? 😂🤣
Btw, no hate, but draining the oil then taking off the oil filter while the sump plug off ensures proper draining of oil. This way you ensure no old oil remains in the engine when refilling. Also pre~filling the oil filter with oil will prevent the engine dry run upon first start, for a second or two which can't be bad in the long run. Just a personal tip.
You wait until you try that cars baby brother, the Focus RS. 355BHP and AWD. So if you're ever my way pop by 😁
OH, I mean 2.0 ecoblue.....:)
2l diesel? Why is it a diesel. My 2017 st is gas. I had no idea that it was also made in a diesel. Mind Blown.
How come you haven’t done a tool box your🤔
i have a rubbish tool box🤣
@@alan4x is it the silver one?
no i have a medieval red snap on stack lol
@@alan4x get a video up lad
Great cars. Remap stage 1 on mine got me an extra 56bhp. All stock.
I have a titanium with the same 2l diesel engine, what is the best oil to run in these engines? I know you mention 0w- 30 but what brand is best? Does the oil have to be a certain specification? Thanks
Say your changing an engine mount on your drive, would that plastic sump take the weight of the engine? I would use board as big as the the sump.
I used to have a Ford Edge with i beleive the same 180hp 2 liter diesel. Lovely engine, obviously on a 2 ton car, not the same speed but you really notice the torc
st, wow love this car much. hehehe your so funny alan :)
Thanks, I love my car too and it’s been an exceptional car and very reliable. Alan has made a great video.
happens on my 3008 2.0 hdi a couple of months before service is due leak from the filter and its always because its worked loose
Alan how often should the fuel filter be changed ? i'm guessing the ST you are working on as done about 25k.Tangerine Scream lovely colour.
Well car will come up with error and.go into LIMP mode when you are giving it beans.. usually 35k on others. Intervals are in car user manual
The mileage my car had done at the time Alan did this video was on 22k and this was its third service. I changed the air filter myself with a Bosch one.
@@neilandbradley6845 air filter is different though
dean lewis, the service interval for years 1 and 2 is just oil and filter and at year 2 is a pollen filter, year 3 is oil, fuel and air filter. I got a Bosch one as they were on offer at euro car parts half price so did that myself a few weeks ago.
Well, I was going to comment and say "you mentioned how cool the red kick plates were, but never mentioned the pop out door protectors", and then it got to 17:50. 👍🏻
Does this mean the standard 2.0tdci 150ps can be mapped to the same power as the st. And also up to 250bhp at stage 2 just like the focus st at stage 2?
It’s a Citroen engine just look at top logo on fuel filter.
Yep a PSA group engine
13:30 to 14:50 i have nightmares since seeing this security of sealing oil reservoir.
Alan fir God sake get yerself a battery screwdriver . Does me ed in watching u do those belly pans!
how much oil it take?
The one time i forgot to put abit of oil on my filter seal it crapped itself after a few weeks and sprayed its oil all over john street roundabout in rochdale
That bing bong noise I have to hear every time I get into my work van. So Ill never have to hear it in my own car. So not buying another ford on that basis.
Allen
Just brilliant stuff
Phil in stoke
thanks phil
Where are you based
Fantastic video, really helped show how simple the fuel filter is on these cars! Thank you
Glad you liked it! cheers tom
@@alan4x the only issue I found was Eurocarparts sending the wrong filter, trying to convince me it was the right one... which did pressurise the housing, and stop the car starting. They soon sent the right one 😂
Bloody love your videos, explain everything so clearly and makes me wish I still had my MK3 Mondeo! However, one thing I noticed! Get your jeans off the paintwork! 🤣
My question is. Has any one got the colour code for the old BT van paint to do a comparison?
I didn't even know ST's are available as diesels. I've never seen one. Though I guess they're actually quite rare anyway?
There are loads in the UK, Ford ST/RS models have always sold well in the UK.
Damian the last real st had the Volvo 2.5 in it and was 3 door
@@bmwman1981 I had one I now have a MK 3 diesel a much nicer car and still more than fast enough..
@@STASH201161 i preferred it when any performance model ie xr rs st was only available in petrol and looked nothing like the normal model unlike now when you can buy a stline focus which to most people looks just like a st .I personally think that any st/rs model should look nothing like the normal model cars and should come in 3 door as it’s not meant to be practical and good on fuel if you want that just buy a non sports model
, wonderful car, but, this is not a multilink back?
Really nice car BUT make mine a mondeo ST .You seem to know what your doing I reckon you've done it all before 😆😂😀👍👌
