The fact that $5300 (nearly $64K per year) doesn’t even get you a LUXURY apartment anymore is mildly disturbing…
I would say extremely disturbing
It’s INSANE
Living in Manhattan is a joke with this pricing. Bklyn Queens and BX are the only places to look in NYC if you're young anymore.
The fact that she is looking with Charles and not cash is why she is seeing this mind of stuff. Cash has more people and owns his own business and has people working under him. She should have looked at cashs portfolio of luxury buildings even if they aren’t in Manhattan
You can get a high-rise 1BR in Manhattan for that price, just not in the Village. I don't see the appeal to live in those old boxes just be in the Village, you can easily walk there from Chelsea or even FiDi, or take a short subway ride.
I'm one minute into the video and almost had a heart attack when you announced the first apartment. Jesus Christ, $3000 a month for basically a walk in closet. Yikes. If anything this video is convincing me to move OUT of NYC 😅
yeah, I was shook! I love my 2 bedrooms of 1000+ sqft for $1300, lol.
Very typical for New York tho. I have a 2 bedroom in Grand Rapids Michigan and pay $1008.00 a month. And that's because I've been here for 6 years. New renters and renters in our area pay up to 2k easy.
@@jancarlson2165 people pay that much to live in Michigan?! That’s intense.
@@Joreyblake What's wrong with Michigan? Beautiful state, 4 seasons, the great lakes, great campgrounds, and Grand Rapids is the 2nd largest city here. Quite awesome. And that's the going rate now for alot of cities, for apartments.
Literally sameeeee
I definitely would checkout Brooklyn you could get a corner unit with incredible views in the most sought after neighborhoods
It’s rare to see influencers make it to Brooklyn
I love Brooklyn sm. 20 min to Manhattan and all the fun stores/restaurant/nightlife. Especially in Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg (tho it’s crazy $$ there now) and Prospect Heights.
I was born in Brooklyn. I have read that, in recent years, areas of Brooklyn…..rental prices have skyrocketed.
But it’s Brooklyn. No thanks
@@MikhailFederov Living in Brooklyn > Manhattan now.
I'm gagged right now... I've lived in NY for 10 years and these prices are absolutely insane... I guess we've probably hunted for different things and at different times (I've lived in my rent controlled apt for two years, right before the apartment prices dipped and everyone was getting INSANE deals), but I have a proper one bedroom in prime Williamsburg for $1995. Windows in every room, not necessarily renovated but not outdated. Laundry in the basement. Plleeeeeease keep looking. $5300 for a one bedroom in EV is atrocious. I feel like you can find a 2 bedroom for that price in Williamsburg . I get people want diff things and what's important to you might not be important to me, I'm just surprised lol makes me never wanna apt hunt again
Williamsburg seems like the move, waaay better stuff over there!
" feel like you can find a 2 bedroom for that price in Williamsburg"
If you don't mind being surrounded by Trump supporters, sure. That's the Small Town Tax. Personally I'd rather be surrounded by like minded people -- if even if they're on the right -- which is why I prefer big cities.
I don't mind roommates at all myself :)
@@neutrino78x Williamsburg is a neighborhood in Brooklyn…is that not still “big city”?
@@califlorican I thought they meant the williamsburg in virginia. ok, if its part of Brooklyn fine. But that's still going to be expensive if it's New York City. :)
@Matthew Toop
Well her and others who make 15k per month, which is 50% of the people of New York City. So basically you're whining because you don't have a good job :)
I can't afford my own house in San Jose either. Silicon Valley is as expensive as New York, if not more so. But I live with a roommate. :)
These apartment choices aren’t great. I just looked myself and saw lots of great listings all over the city in every Manhattan neighborhood with at least 1BR, 1Ba, central air, and in unit laundry in the range of 2.5k-5k. Paying 5k for no laundry even in Manhattan is a joke. There are much better choices than this. You may have to do some searching on your own to find the best deals. Don’t overlook CT either. Some would say the quality of life is better here while still being a short drive from all the NYC happenings. It’s also good to keep an address in CT for tax purposes, do whatever you can to avoid filing state taxes in New York.
Chicago downtown for these prices, you can get a large 1-2 bedroom apartments right in the heart with amazing views....
But it’s in Chicago…
with the Gunshots sounds ....
@@alan_li yall foul🤣🤣🤣😭😭🤦
I might have to consider Chicago. Im black though but never been there im from texas and currently in Philadelphia working. I hate Philadelphia so i might hate chicago also lol. But i always love visiting every place for the experience. But i hate Philadelphia because all the stupid row homes And parking and trash everywhere. My small town in texas looks richer and better than half the entire country. Its crazy.
@@clanaoaarmyofallah2557 Oh Philly is way way worse lol
As a fellow broker in nyc, he was grossly overestimating the sizes of those apartments. That first studio was closer to 425 and the second one was closer to 700-800 sq ft….definitely not 1,000!
Agree. He needs to get the measuring tool that Cash Jordan uses. The first broker may be out of commission pretty soon.
ya you always measure in NYC. The owners like to average up and hope nobody notices. Louis Rossman's channel he shows commercial spaces can be off by 20-30%
I used to live in the big 🍏 $ 5 000/ month for our Manhattan apartment but I loved it. I miss NYC so much.
Cheers from San Diego California
You made a great move to the 619.
@@robertwilliam9558 The 858 is nicer than the 619
Great video! The market is crazy now.
Cash money checking in! I just watched your video on how NYC is a difficult sell lately - I moved upstate a month ago because I couldn’t justify the rent vs. the current condition of the city. ActionKid left too as I’m sure you know. I can’t believe how much it has changed in a few years. Tough to watch because NYC was an amazing place. Even more interesting to me is that NYC’s legacy/image is still appealing enough in its current state to people like Shelby who are considering moving in.
It’s so crazy!!
When UA-cam worlds collide. Two of my faves.
@@SnowBeltDetails Shelby would NEVER move to NYC - I left in 1966 and never looked back.
Why didn't you go to cash ?
Damn! Those NYC prices are more insane than LA prices. Over $3k for a studio?? Omg.
Right??
I live in Sydney, Australia and plenty of people here think that they are paying too much in rent. They would faint if they watched this video and heard the rent prices in New York. My 2 bedroom apartment here is double the size of the first one shown in this video and we pay $2100 per month.
LA isn't an expensive city.
$5300 a month for the second apartment. INSANE. You're better off buying a house. Good tour though.
Super interesting. You do such a great job on these vids!
I'm so happy to hear you're giving NYC a try!
Great video, Shelby! Loved the format!
When I was small my parents my sister & I ,with my grandmother, shared a large apartment on Riverside Drive. My Grandmother was covered by rent control. There were 2 units per floor.
My Grandmother eventually died & my great aunt (moved in after we left) eventually went into a nursing home. Years later the building went Condo. It was very common that the owners purchased both apartments & turned it into a single unit of about 2,400 square feet.
Last year I checked prices. The asking price of the former family apartment (now single unit) was $4.3 million dollars.
Sheesh. Well across the Street was Riverside Park. 2 blocks East was Broadway & the 72nd Street subway stop…
I live in NYC (and have for the past 20 years) this is such a REALISTIC video o what it's like to shop for apts here! Thank you for showing what's its really like!:)
I love yr stile and just wanted to say keep up the awsome work.
Such a fun video! I loved the second apartment too, but the prices in NYC are just insane 🙈
I just moved into a one bedroom apartment in a small resort town in Vermont and pay a little over $1,000/ month including utilities for a year lease. I always knew NYC is expensive but those prices are crazy!
Agree with your choice to skip these. Thanks again for the eye-opening venture into what is currently; “out there”, (price for sq. ft. wise), within the dwelling world. Best of luck with future apt. hunting.
She was never going to rent them...
Good luck Shelby 💐🏴
ps love watching new content from you on saturday mornings!! it makes my day w my coffee!
Hi Shelby!! I'd love to see you in New York!! Because of you, I have been following Danielle, Brooke, Elena, etc and love NY!!! ❤❤
It would be so fun if you did some house hunting in a state that you have never considered before. Like nebraska, Idaho, Florida, North dakota or anything haha.
come to small town Idaho. I get a 550 sq ft, 1-bed apt similar to the first one on the busy main street in downtown for $550/mo, including an elevator (that isn't advertised as a perk)
From one Church to the other, fun videos from both of you today.
i love you shelby!!
You might also want to consider Downtown Jersey City. If you're near the Path, it's a 5-minute ride into Manhattan and at those prices you could get something pretty new with way more space. Also some of the apartments have really nice views of the skyline.
Thanks for sharing Shelby!
Chicago and Milwaukee next! Also def here for you living in nyc - with the nice weather i feel like you’d have so much content!
Great video. I hope that you find an apartment in New York or wherever you decide to settle down that tickles your fancy very soon. Keep enjoying life to the fullest and have a great week.
Shelby, I think you do a similar video in Chicago! Check out the Midwest, Chicago has a great vibe and great place to live for that similar urban feel! Do a week or 2 there and see what you think? I’d love to see how you think it compares
Chicago’s “vibe” is snooty people. There isn’t ANY culture there like NYC… no offense but you must not know true new york
@@julianab7491 There isn’t any culture in Chicago?? 😂 What??? Lady, it’s one of the top 3 cities in the United States and is a World Class city. Typical New Yorker….they think anywhere that isn’t New York City is like Idaho. Chicago is literally New York City, Just on a slightly smaller scale and much cleaner.
fancy that you mentioned welcome back to your channel as I'm happy to be back being a returning subscriber to your channel I'm so happy.to see continuius moving series fabulous video
From Monica’s to Shelby’s 🥰 thanks church girls for keeping me entertained this morning!
Are they church goers
I'm not sure why they don't reside not too far away from each other so basically can see each other a bit more regularly
@@ericB3444 it’s their last name ☠️
Yes, the market is insane. In Switzerland house prices are also increasing rapidly. Sometimes there are empty new built houses and apartments in the cities, because no one can afford living there. Thank you for sharing those apartments with us.
Manhattan’s Financial District is a banger neighborhood to live in. Super high floors (30 to 60 stories), quiet, with tons of natural light at a good price, and almost every subway line goes right through it.
NYC is an amazing, exciting, inspiring place to live. You're young and free. Do it if you can afford it! When you're old, you'll look back on your time there with fond memories and the crazy rent will be a distant memory. Good luck!
Great volgs 🇯🇲👍🏾
Amazing tour...!! Expected no less dealing with Charles Munroe...... he has amazing units..!! Beautiful video tour...!!
The 5300 1 bedroom was super nice for NYC. Worth mentioning though that StreetEasy does say it has a broker's fee. Broker's fees are 1 month's rent on the low end and 15% of the annual rent on the high end... Assuming the worst case/high end, that is effectively 6100/month. Wheeeww
Omg 😱 For a 1 bedroom?
Yes Shelby! Make the move 🗽! You’re going to find something, you and Monica can maybe even move in together for a year! NYC is calling your name
Shel, don't settle for these apartments at this price!! I can personally guarantee there are so many others at similar price range that is SO much better in every way with a newer build, laundry etc.
The third toilet does look like a public facility. Strangely that means it’s superior in every single way. I’ve worked maintenance on facilities for years and never understood why we use gravity fed toilets other than they are cheaper to install
Hehe every storage space is being evaluated as camera equipment place, love it!
great video , omg i would feel so ripped off at night i couldnt sleep in one of thoses appartments .... crazy prices ... so sad !
Hope you find an apartment soon. Lovely video. 👍 🥰
Good vid as always. I agree these prices are absolutely ridiculous.
I would love to see you check out Nashville. I keep hearing over and over how great it is!
YES ! wonderful video, enjoyed watching :)+++
Hey Shelby I love ur videos and the one in the east village is so modern and amazing I wonder which one u chose I’m from nyc btw
I would love to see your next NYC video showing Brooklyn - everyone always talks about how much cheaper it is and how you can get more for your money so would love to see the comparison!
Apartment hunting in New York City is like....."In this apartment, you could almost fit a person.....could be niiiiice."
How funny I saw Charles yesterday at a listing I was going to film! NYC is a small world!
Thank you so much! I'm looking for that better deal in kew gardens Queens ect...
*Graham has entered chat*
LOL!!!
It was funny to see the ~"east village"~ animation from the vlog
I pay $2200 for a 800 sq ft apartment in a great part of LA, so I honestly cannot imagine having to pay double that!! Those rental prices are nuts
There is a huge difference between la and nyc though and that’s the actual cost per month. When I lived in la I had to drive to work, ie car payments, insurance, gas etc. nyc metro, bus or Uber are all cheaper lol
The closet on the first place was actually pretty nice for a studio I think.
I live 30-min (by public transportation) away from the apartments you looked at. It's a 4 story townhouse with private parking & 800sq ft backyard and I pay around $3500 for everything. Manhattan is crazy expensive.
Great video.
Shelby just go to Brooklyn. You can still get great street views on like the 7th floor or something for a 2 bedroom and for maybe 3k. Studio or 1 bdr would be cheaper too. And it would only been a 15 min subway ride to Manhattan
Shelby foreshadowing herself moving to NYC
That's wild. Definitely try Greenpoint, Williamsburg or Bushwick in Brooklyn.
You get more of everything apartment wise for less. I live in LA now but when I come to NYC during the summer I stay in Brooklyn & travel to the other boroughs.
GET THE STUDIO !!! IT WAS PERFECT
3500 for a studio! nuts! So thankful for my current NYC apt... but I know they'll jack the rent when the lease is up for renewal next May!
Charles Monroe seems like such a nice guy!
beautiful Vlog
MYYYY FAV VIDEOS
I never get surprised but I’m addicted to these NYC apartment hunting videos.
Every video I’ve watched people say “It’s decent for this price, It’s good enough, this is good for NYC, this is spacious for nyc, the sunlight is decent for this price etc. “ 😭 I’m always baffled but Ig I wont get it unless I live in NYC
I am so thankful with my $910 monthly rent for my 714 square foot 1 bedroom apartment in Michigan. I live in the city next to ann arbor for college and I see rent is a lot more if I were to move 1 city over just because it's a more popular city.
I agree. You should try living in Chicago for a month
Crazy!!! For what, a sense of feeling cool, sophisticated. For that kind of money, buy a large, spacious house. An investment, real and large walk-in closets, space to put things where you want them!
A separately kitchen and a walk 🚶♂️ in wardrobe for a studio. it's a mansion in central London and a good price. I like it
I was just watching some of Charles’ videos and remembered that you toured NY apartments also, but I didn’t to know you worked with Charles. I thought you did it on your own.
Live in NJ right across the bridge from
Manhattan. So much cheaper and just a decently short bus to NYC.
You should do a nyc fixer upper..and take us along✌
I feel like when people think about living in New York they always think about Manhattan not realizing that you can go a little bit out of the city and find a really nice apartments like in Brooklyn or in Queens or even uptown Bronx you can find a really nice apartments and it’s very convenient to get to the city by just a train ride
The second one is best.
Almost toilets in NYC Apts don't have a tank btw.
Great video! Love how thorough you are.
Come to the upper west side, it’s lovely!
Shelby can you look at apartments in Brooklyn and Harlem
I just can't deal with the tiny fridges, they're mini fridges 😂 I love that second place though 😍
After years in NYC I’m retreating to Philly…for now. They raised my rent by 48 percent! In Philly I found a place with 2 big bedrooms and a private rooftop in Center City for exactly what I pay now. 2100. I love New York, always have always will, but with my work going mostly remote, can’t justify the rent and taxes for a 250 Sq. Ft. closet anymore. I’m over it. But I encourage anyone wanting to live in New York to do it. Especially in your 20s when you can get roommates and are going out more than you’re staying in and can tolerate the cramped space.
3:14 - Trippy - they put the dishwasher under the sink! First time I've ever seen that. The pipe must have to do an extreme right turn directly under the drain instead of the gentle curved pipe that drops about a foot down. Or maybe it's a new type of dishwasher that also acts as a sink drain router!? I'm truly fascinated.
It’s crazy, but up like the studio apartment the best. Has way more character then the second two.
Thoughts from a long time NYer: the 3rd apartment was terrible for the price. The 2nd unit was nice but a 1,000 sqft 1 bedroom is overkill. For reference, I live in a 1,050 sqft 2 bedroom. Also $5k with no washer even on the hallway of the floor is ridiculous. The 1st unit seemed the best balance of space/price and holy cr@p that closet space was amazing. But you are paying for those closets and could probably find a better balance of amenities vs closets. Around 750 sqft for a 1 bedroom might be a better fit or a studio with an alcove.
Finally, I suggest just walking around areas you like and going into buildings that look interesting if they have doormen and ask if they know if anything is available to rent. Some units never make it to market because people do this and it can help you avoid broker fees. I know several people who have done this to great success.
ABSOLUTELY walk around and ask the doorman for availability and avoid broker fees. As an ex-realtor in the city I’m still dumbfounded by how expensive it is to rent in NYC. I ended up renting to clients in NJ and giving more value for their money.
How do you get 5K to pay for rent. Thats like 100K in salary (pre-tax) just for rent? I used to live in NYC myself and half my paycheck was paid to rent (82K salary), and this was for a $2k/month studio.
All seems nice 😊 I am guessing you hated the first one.
If you must move to NYC, you can try look for a townhouse or a small house in staten island close to the bridge. It’s convenient to get to all boroughs of the city via 278. I just assume you still have the Tesla and will need to charge it. Don’t think about the toll, it’s nothing compare to paying for a parking spot if you live in any other boroughs.
Laundry out-of-unit for $5.3k? Yikes. My co workers in NY have a 2 bedroom (shared) for sub $5.2k w/ in unit laundry - might be the hack / also have a work area?
One had nice storage and space! I always want to renovate anywhere that I stay. 😂
@Shelby Church , you just want to put camera gear everywhere. Lol I know the feeling 😁😂
It would be fun putting dishes away in that dishwasher directly below the sink
Just for anyone reading this that doesn’t live in the “ United States “ meaning Los Angeles, CA , New York OR Miami . These are average prices here in Los Angeles where I live a 2 bedroom apartment at 500-700 sq feet STARTS at $5,000 a month. I live in a studio apartment and pay $3,000 a month which in LA is very very average…. NO NEED to attack me I’m just simply writing what I pay in a NEW building in the HEART of LA
miami offers a great apartment with that amount . Not like how nyc treats u with a painted matchbox for 3000 dollars per month
Yea I noticed those people not from America doesn’t get that. It’s a huge expat city so you get the cost of living that is overpriced. Of course this drives out the natives of those cities and living spaces become competitive.
I’m from NYC you need to check out local neighborhoods like Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights in Brooklyn
$5500 is the new standard rent for a regular 1 BR in Manhattan. The demand to live in NYC is at an all time high and landlords are looking to recoup their losses from Covid. There is no shortage of people or couples making $300k+ who can easily afford these small apartments so they will all easily be rented out.
With subway access, what do you think it’s so important to live in Manhattan? How about nearby Long Island city or across the Hudson River, with 3.5k+, there are more newer option with decent neighborhood
As a real estate agent in Manhattan, I have to say, that agent was quoting more square footage than the units really were. When you go apartment shopping, most shoppers will ask what the square footage is, however most landlords don’t give the brokers actual square footage numbers unless, in my opinion, they’re 750 square feet and higher. It’s always best to tell the client that the square footage was not provided by the landlord because 9/10 times that’s the case. I wish he would’ve dressed more professionally for showings of luxury apartments, if your going to wear jeans then put shoes on, tuck in your shirt. He did take her to some nice apartments, and he sounded very nice so credit there.
Shelby, checkout Long island City (tf cornerstone buildings) . Just one subway ride away from Manhattan, with Stellar views of the manhattan skyline.
The prices are absolutely crazy! I’m born and raised in Texas. I rent a 1300 square foot house (2 bedroom 1 bath) for $1200. I know it’s NYC but I just can’t fathom spending that much. For $5300 a month you could live in a 7k square foot house here in Dallas!
Where do you live in Texas? I live in DFW and $1200 for a 1300SQFH is super low cost!
@@katherinechesney9692 I live in Rockwall. Yes, it’s a really good deal honestly. We got lucky when we found the house. One bedroom apartments in Rockwall rent for $1200 so we were very fortunate to find our house for the same price!
Caira Button would be a great resource for a video like this in Chicago. 👍
While the size of the kitchen is small, I feel like it's convenient when cooking to have everything in arms reach
