I dunno about Ben being the heart of the team but he definitely keeps the family balanced in some way in all of the renditions and timelines. It's also interesting how most indication of changes are shown through Ben.
1:14 I will never forgive Klaus for lying and saying Ben wasn't with them in the past and for not letting Ben interact with his family more before he sacrificed himself to save them. Klaus was just annoying and selfish that whole season, it's like they took all of his flaws and bumped it up to another level and Ben got the short end of the stick because of it. season 3 spoilers ahead, the main theory is that ben died when saving Jennifer, but that the new ben didn’t die the same way because he wasn’t as selfless and instead of saving her life, he saved his own.
