    Great, but i think the intercooler came from an S3 8P not an 8L... ;)

    I'm actually thinking of replacing the oil cooler and oil filter assembly and the steps you showed how to remove the front end will help me a lot as I will have more access to remove the leaky oil filter assembly. Thanks.

    Great video , clear and as the presenter stated it is easy and simple to fit the new gas struts. Keep up the good work. Viewer with older
    Audi A4 that needs new boot struts.

    Hi guys, just found these videos and they are great! with re-using stock Audi parts, can you do a tutorial on replacing the GTI breaks with Audi breaks (S3 breaks i believe). I've heard that it's much the same with just bolting them straight on. If not love you work anyway. MK5s will always be the best-looking golf!

    great vid; though you've put the wrong coolant in it takes pink and not green coolant which rusts the engine and seizes eventually

      +MicksGarage1 ah thanks well glad to be proven wrong would be sad to see a nice gti go to waste... only mentioned it as ive seen many people putting the wrong coolant and replacing the engine shortly after hence why i just stick oem g13 coolant :)...

    Hi Mick :) awesome video was just wondering after draining the coolant do you have to squeeze the lower radiator hose pipe to bleed air from the system and run with the coolant cap off until fans kick in ? Thanks

    I found that the s3 intercooler didn't fit with the old condenser because it was wider than the original golf intercooler - I've been advised to get an s3 condenser too - did you have any issues?

    • @CR15PY1
      @CR15PY1 5 місяців тому

      Wow really? I have an mkv gti as well

    • @marcusonlife4074
      @marcusonlife4074 5 місяців тому +1

      @@CR15PY1 maybe I’m just unlucky but I had real issues fitting an s3 intercooler, it wasn’t a straight swap at all. I ended up doing away with the bracketry that holds the intercooler, radiator and condenser as it didn’t allow for the increased width of the S3 intercooler. I also had to get an S3 condenser as the golf one didn’t line up with the mounting holes. Definitely worth the upgrade overall but more involved (for me at least) than vids like this would have you believe

    • @marcusonlife4074
      @marcusonlife4074 5 місяців тому +1

      @@CR15PY1 so after a little more research, I’ve discovered that it might be an issue with my car - I have an 05 2.0 GT sport that has the same front bumper and slam panel as a standard golf (later year GT sports came with GTI bumper/slam panels, albeit with different grille inserts) thus the GTI front bumper and slam panel may be wider/accomodate the bigger intercooler easier. Haven’t been able to establish whether the bracketry holding the radiator, intercooler and condenser is any wider though. So it may be the case that swapping an S3 intercooler into a GTI or GT (with GTI bumper/slam panel) is a straight swap but not for golfs with “standard” bumper/slam panels.

    Nice vid, but you should show a audi S3 8p not 8l where the intercooler came from 😉

    When someone adds green coolant to a vw and you cringe. (it needs to be pink for those that are unaware)

    • @paulsoar7614
      @paulsoar7614 5 років тому +2

      Mines yellow n never moves off 90 is this still wrong

    • @jordancpetit
      @jordancpetit 5 років тому +14

      @@paulsoar7614 yes, the issue isn't the temperature, it's what is added to the coolant versus the pink that is called for by the manufacturer. Other types can eat away at gaskets and tubing that is throughout the engine and can also create unneeded sediment. Better to be safe than to do frequent coolant flushes while still running the risk of doing permanent damage.

  • @JakobusVdL

    Nice vid thanks. I noticed that the hoses going back on were the blue silicon (?) type, compared to the standard ones you took off. is that a change that is necessary for the conversion, or are there other reasons for doing it? Also does the larger intercooler have any effect on the engine cooling radiator?

    • @JakobusVdL
      @JakobusVdL 8 років тому

      +MicksGarage1 Thanks, they look better too! Not that anyone is likely to see them once the front end is reassembled.
      It looks like stripping the front end and rebuilding it was quite a lengthy job. How long would you reckon it took? and are there any other enhancements or preventative maintenance jobs that should be considered, or would be made easier by having the front end stripped?

    I have to say well done on all the writes up on the MK5 Gti, as I drive a Skoda Octavia Vrs mk2 Tfsi, same engine as the Gti its a great insight into performance and DIY mods to the car.
    Is it possible to give a part number for the oem intercooler from the s3? As i have searched on your web site and using an s3 reg with no luck.
    Another video to look at is cleaning the Valves on these cars, from reviews and forums it is a major issue with the build up of oil in the valves, I know it is not a straight forward process but will help the car respond better.
    Thanks

DO you have any advise as to what the problem could be as it keeps on draining my battery and then i need to jumpstart it. Much obliged if you might point me in the right direction

    Good video and thanks for doing it! I have been watching a lot of your videos since the oil change on the 2.0TDI on the VW Passat. I noticed that when you are going underneath the carriage that you aren't wearing the safety glasses. I would think that this would be one of your most important part of your video as safety should be your primary concern when going under the carriage with little bits and oily bits flying about. Plus, I'm sure you could add that as a selling item, too! ( I don't know if you sell safety glasses - I haven't checked yet).
