This guy just continues to reveal brilliant songs out of the blue more songs come in more songs, and so many of them are just brilliant and genius and sensitive and unmatched I just can’t believe that this guy wasn’t a huge success even though I don’t think he could’ve stood being a huge success
Well, my trip to Morocco left an impact on me for sure :D I was holding onto that random motorcyclist for dear life as he navigated the streets back to my hotel in Casablanca... it was crazy... I did certainly learn a lot in Morocco though, as well as Tunisia
I found this site on the web talking about this, guess it was really wrote by Nick Drake according the text below. Nick visited Morocco in March 1967 after visiting Aix. CLOTHES OF SAND was recorded in November 1968 so chronologically fits with the Morocco visit being its inspiration. STRANGE MEETING II (written in 1967 or 1968) with its "princess of the sand" character may well have been inspired by the trip too. According to accounts from his co-travellers, it was a drug-filled, memorable trip
She came to me and i saw in her eyes
the heavy toll of a thousand sighs

So haunting yet so beautiful
Haunting, ethereal, ephemeral and otherworldy

My favourite Nick Drake song , beautiful!
Absolute Gold.
So sad, so beautiful!!!
Sometimes...these Tracks are all I have
Sand... Clothes of sand, Princess of the Sand.... His trip to Morocco must have had quite the impression on him.

Its Nicks song
Sola Sistim is right ... the correct lyrics are: ""the heavy toll of a thousand *SIGHS*"
The heavy toll of a thousand sighs
i think lycrics must be of his, set to what i think must be a tradicional melody
Suban la version donde se le olvida la letra
Does someone know who wrote this song ? Nick Drake mentionned it was not him, but there's no info whatsoever on the web :S
Definitely written by Nick
The guitar sounds a lot like Angie, but a great song from him.
been smoking too long has an unknown author it wasnt actually nick who wrote it its rumoured it was a friend who wrote it
Robin Frederrick wrote been smoking too long, she also wrote Sandy Grey that John Martyn covered on London Conversation
