Dang that's the rarest Corvair made! Only like 369 or something Loadsides in 1962! Looks an awesome and well done custom Loadside! One of my Rampsides has a Spyder dash in it too!
I’m dying to know the details of how to make that work. What adapter plates were needed? Mounting brackets? Most importantly how did you figure out that idling the motor at 500rpm was the right amount to get it to work? How did you program the system to do that on startup?
Watched Jay Leno's video on this truck and immediately thought it looked like an early electric truck, high bed for the batteries, very smooth design, if you told me it was stock electric I'd believe you. Glad to see someone made such a nice conversation with one
I have lots of those battery regulators if you ever need any let me know has the company is out of business now, that's a really neat conversion job. I used to live in fort Pierce Florida
The only thing I find offensive about this is the liquid cooling in a Corvair :D. Really impressive build, especially that this was done 6+ years ago now.
I would like to convert my 1964 Chevy Greenbrier deluxe corvair van. it has a functioning automatic transmission where can I get the parts and directions to convert to electric?
I realky like the paint choice and wheels. looks like a 2025 model year to come. Is the battery compartment watertight if it rains and fills the bed in front of it? Seems like there would be a power lose with the automatic?
Very nice vehicle! Well done restoration and conversion! But, I wonder why you went with a DC motor, rather than an AC? At some point you'll have to replace those brushes.
All these parts we're very popular in the 90s, back then AC motors were very expensive. The battery charger is a Manzanita micro also not around anymore. The motor still can be bought from Net gain motors,
This is great, but I have a question, why did you keep the auto power glide trans? Why did you not eliminate the trans altogether and go direct drive? As far as the AC, there are "electric AC compressors", keeping the "engine running" for the AC and transmission seem to negate the point of electric car. Please do not get me wrong, you have done an excellent job, I only ask to understand. thanks
Changing it to direct drive would require a lot more work. The Corvair drivetrain is a bit weird in the the differential is in the middle of the engine and transmission. That means you'd have to put the drive motor on the transmission side, where there isn't space for it. You could perhaps flip the differential over or replace it entirely, which would be a lot of effort!
Wow, my friend, that is a custom creation that is truly clean piece of craftsmanship. I think that this was built for show? This is not for carrying home the groceries or pieces of lumber.
What we have here is a waste of time, but if it makes you happy, then I’m happy for you! Ugh! I could have picked a dozen other vehicles to do that job on.
Great video! I was curious, how did you do the bell housing and coupling from electric motor to the power glide transmission? Did you fabricate the part? Is it tied directly to the torque inverter? I have a 1963 corvair with a power glide so I'm still trying to figure out the best method to tie in the electric motor. Thanks!!
I'm sure using the torque converter and 2spd was easier but with an electric motor I would just run a direct drive to the dif and eliminate all that parasitic loss. Yes I understand the problems inherent in the concentric differential but if your modding this far is that much harder?
Beautiful classic Corvair side hauler here .....why anyone would butcher it into a bloody ev is just beyond offensive. UGH What were you thinking. My guess you weren't at all . Good luck with your piece of ev junk you have turned a once great classic into !
I personally don't like it. I love the idea, it was amazingly well done, but I think this was 100% the wrong thing to do with such a great classic vehicle.
It's not stupid, it's a hobby. Ruined is a relative term, it's only ruined if it didn't turn out the way you intended. There is a reason Loadsides are rare and I'm glad this one found a loving home.
@@LN997-i8x It was on an episode of Mecum Auto Actions that I just watched on TV. The whole reason I looked it up actually. It sold to a guy for about $25,000 I think.
That is absolutely beautiful!! Remarkable piece of engineering on the conversion process!! Well done!!

Ingenious, congratulations I love it! Thank you! Mic'21
Absolutely the coolest hotrod truck out there
Very nice, did not realize the electric motor could drive a powerglid! A fine build. Thank you.

Wow! One of the best builds ever!
Super nice job👍
Amazing!

That thing it gorgeous! Wish i could afford such a thing. Great work!
Amazingly done
Good job
Damn that's how they should of come from the factory ! Would of sold a million.! What a nice job , a sweet looking ride. Old guys rule!
they sold almost 2 million with the gas engine in the 60's
Great mods, tastefully and beautifully done.
Very clean build.
It is a true work of art wish I could do my 65 monza like that
That's an amazing conversion!
I see it's for sale, if I could afford it, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! I love EV's and Corvairs!
Great work!!!
Very nice
Man, that thing is awesome!
I agree! Mic'21
I love the seats! Cool Loadside!

This is very nice, I am looking into doing this to my 60 corvair
A great video and a great vehicle. Congratulations on your electric Corvair.
Next time you do a video make sure you turn off the air compressor.😄

Anyone have any details on the powerglide conversion process? Adapters? Specifics for interfacing with the automatic transmission ?
Bravoooo👏
Amazing beautiful project clean work with passion professional it's costly.
How it's work ac Compressor in idle.
Yes Please
My favorite part is the detailed overview of this vehicles drive train.

What was the cost of this conversion? Beautifully executed!
makes me wonder how long it will run that standard aircon pump ?
Beautiful machine/art. I am curious: What does it weigh now compared to what it weighed from the factory?
That’s really nice, how much did it cost to do the whole truck?…..did you do the work yourself or contract it out?
Beyond spectacular! Whereabouts in Florida is this?? We are big Corvair fans, located in the Orlando area. 3 FC vans and a Corsa 140 convertible.
Very cool, why did you use the Powerglide instead of a standard?
Very nice. How much money in the electrical conversion ?
Any videos of this driving?

Carlos did you ever figure this out. I’m in the same boat if you want to share parts lists.
@@TheChupacabra unfortunately no sorry. This project is currently in the back burner for me hehe
For something this important, I woulda started over when the compressor ruined the shot.
I know it's a show truck, but did anybody hear what it's operating range is? \:|

Turn off the Air Pump 😂
It's nice, but I'm not a fan of converting old cars to EV...especially cool old cars like this.

Nice truck, but it totally defeats the purpose of owning a classic vehicle…you should’ve just gotten a Tesla cyber truck.
Nice work but ruined a increasingly rare truck. Stupid...and you'll NEVER get back what you put into it.
it is his truck, why do you care?

Something tells me he didn't do this with selling it in mind. Clearly, this was a labour of love, not some hollow monetary pursuit or investment.
