There’s plenty of scientists that could fact check someone like Berg, but what makes Gil stand out is the absolute master class in patience and explaining his point without getting in the mud with the people he’s responding to. 👍

absolutely right. And, even though we definitely need way more of this attitude today probably more than ever before, what you see instead is usually either performative drama, or lack of discourse due to weird and illogical reasons like "platforming" and stuff like that. Gil is a standout indeed.

Where Gil stands out from the rest is his background: MD and PhD. I know qualifications aren't everything, but to do (and complete) an MD means you have some knowledge of medicine and to complete a PhD at a top medical school means you have advanced knowledge of a specific area or areas of medicine.
It also, however, teaches you about academic research. Everything Berg and Gil knows comes from peer-reviewed publications and to get papers into top journals, as Gil has done, requires an understanding of all of the possible flaws - methodological, conceptual - that can corrupt a hypothesis.
Berg, Saladino, Eckberg and others simply don't have the training or the expertise to deal with this level of science. They think scanning papers for outcome data makes them an expert. It doesn't: it makes them a reader. And the fact that Berg has just posted a 'reaction' video to Gil that contains even more errors says it all.

This is the one channel where I feel 100% certain there is no bias. I always have full respect for Gil’s conclusions and openness, even when it might conflict with my own gut feelings and ideology.
People like Berg, Berry, Ekberg, Baker, Saladino et al are just all about the clicks and the money, so some of their advice will be ok short term and might bring them hundreds of anecdotal testimonials, but really they are just dressing up what people want to hear. Grifting basically! Keep on bringing it Gil, I’m sure one or two Berg worshippers will eventually have the spell broken!

Did you see Berry's silly video of himself ordering Quarter Pounders without buns at a McDonald's drive thru? At least he made the correct call in avoiding white bread. You will find little healthy food at any fast food restaurant. I think doctors pushing carnivore diets for anybody but the most severe IBS patients should be found guilty of malpractice. I don't even think it's good for short term weight loss as if people are going from eating junk food to eating lean red meat; it's really a low calorie diet in disguise. I read about a stubborn diabetic case where the woman had cut her carbs down to almost nothing, and there was no drop in her blood sugar, because the saturated fat she had replaced it with, had made her insulin resistance worse. Glucose and insulin, don't just go up when we eat a lot of carbs.

I remember my grandmother saying no way, that it was bad news, and that, "It's brainwashing". I can see use of fear, intimidation and mind control (more specifically, the idea that doctors and big pharma have been feeding you misinformation for a long time, and that this is hurting the general public) in Berg's videos. This is no coincidence. It's what cult leaders are good at. There's always people making false claims on here about how some new food or supplement will lower my blood pressure, blood sugar, improve my sleep etc. I'm an engineer. I say, always fully identify the problem, and that there really is one, before devising a solution. It's easy for people to start taking five or more supplements based on fear, that their body is mostly adding to their urine. Dr.Berg started me on the low-carb way and it's worked very well for me and close people around me. That being said, you must NEVER take any youtuber/influencer claims at face value. Keep researching, keep studying, reading and THINK for yourself. That's why I enjoy this channel a lot too. For example, the "designing low-carb for heart health" video was very helpful and informative for me.
I keep trying to tweak my personal keto/low-carb diet to align more and more with the evidence for good health. I find it interesting that the Mediterranean diet has a ton of similarity with a healthy keto one and eventually I will blend the two for the long term. Dr. Berg's diet also dismisses a lot of the foods that are associated with dirty and unhealthy keto. Would have been interesting to see Dr. Gil's take on that, although it's somewhat covered in the other videos covering the diets.
Let's stop the tribalism and focus on critical thinking and communication!
Anyway, thank you Dr. Gil for your and your team's work on this channel!

  • @edwardcheng8274

It is unfortunate that youtubers/influencers like Dr. Berg are much more popular than Dr. Carvalho. People tend to prefer the people that confirm their biases rather than those that challenge them. This phenomena is even more obvious in political/geopolitical influencers. Those who stick to facts and objectivity are boring and frequently ignored in favor of those who blatantly make up narratives that confirm their target audience's biases. Some channels even start out objective and factual and gradually move to sensationalism and "alternate facts"
We need to support those who stick to their principles of honesty and not to those who sell out. I make a conscious decision to not click on videos of these youtubers regardless of their click bait titles and certainly would not subscribe to them.

Whether that's playing up to conspiracy theories as a whole, misrepresenting information to promote their "diet" or conspiracy/narrative they're pushing, using click-bait/controversial headlines as "this healthy fruit is killing you".. whatever it takes to get views. As they garnish increased viewership, they can see the high cash potential. It doesn't even matter if it's based on any science.. once the words come out of their mouth, the viewer may instantly believe it, especially if they claim to be some sort of expert or "doctor". The videos can sometimes get more extreme and almost dramatic. Some of these channels even garnish a "cult-like" following it seems. Viewership grows and grows and at that point they can't stop, they must keep going to maintain/gain viewership and further build their business model. Also, you can almost always find that they are selling expensive supplement(s) or offering a service; the best ones IMO are the videos saying how bad x is and how you must do y to fix it.. and they conveniently sell that supplement that is "formulated exactly as needed unlike others".

Sadly that’s the nature of the beast. Hopefully channels like Gil’s, and Simon Hill’s for example, will continue to grow and word will spread to people who are a bit more open and less gullible than most of Berg’s demographic.

There are so many great lessons to takeaway from this video, not only in nutrition science, but in what true professionalism and integrity looks like. Gil, you are a class act. 👌🏻 Thank you for the work you do. I’m so grateful that people like you exist on UA-cam. Keep it up!

We love watching this channel, learning, and looking at the evidence. Yes, we - my family and I.

There is an important thing to keep in mind regarding LDL. Dr. Gill is right that the number of particles is what’s important, not the size of those particles. However, the same number of particles of large LDL will give you a higher LDL score than the same numbers of smaller LDL, sine the LDL score is based on total volume. Therefore, when people look at their blood test results, the LDL doesn’t tell the whole story. They have to know the number of particles, and as Dr. Gil says, the best marker would be ApoB, not simply LDL.

I love this guy! He’s simply the best. A true collaborator and someone who is just trying to help people get some truth without bias. We just want the science and if the science changes we need to know. Thx Dr Gil

Thanks, doc. You set the standard for objectivity and open-mindedness. Now, if we could just get our politicians to follow your pattern.

This is the type of content people are starving for - science first and logic based, wherever that leads. Thank you Gil for your effort that must be exhausting and thank you to your team who must provide so much relief and support. Sincerely.

Great vid, Dr. Gil. I was curious, are you a family medicine doctor? If so, where do you practice out of? I could use a compassionate, intelligent, doctor. Great as always!

I watched Berg for a few years and finally figured out he pushes his “own” science/facts, and stopped watching him. Thank you for your great work and honesty!
You and your team are a true gift to your viewers! Thank you!🙏👏💛

Same here. He speaks confidently and authoritatively about many things without sufficient support, and often no support at all. This is the first video I've seen from this channel, and it earned an instant sub from me.

Hey sorry I know it's off-topic for this video, would you be able to look at research concerning the health benefits or lack thereof of consuming fruit juice? I know the consensus is generally that consuming WHOLE fruit is good in moderation, but that fruit juice is considered bad due to lacking fiber and various other benefits. The only analysis I could find on my own was data I personally thought inconclusive. Or at least, could you link a study about this topic if you know of any? I love fruit juice but I don't wanna be screwing myself over hahaha

Honestly the 'small LDL are worse!' to justify that large LDL are harmless sounds like the level of logic a child would have. It seems to me that he is just using any fallacious take he comes up with in order to maintain his narrative rolling.
