There are so many layers to this song. Holy shit. I just discovered it today about 10 hours ago and I've been working on my truck playing it on repeat the whole time. Good lord so many ways this can go and the allegory of the record / relationship even the needle to someone who creates OR destroys the memories. It's freaking phenomenal.
I am NOT a Manson superfan. Don't own any of his albums but I have several songs that I love. This one just hits different. It's so personal and yet I swear I've heard it before, but I know I haven't. How can that be?? It's like he found the melody that plays in my subconscious and recorded it.

Yeah there are tons of subtle nuances that make this track one of his best ever. Even lyrically it appears simple but the fact that the phrases have multiple meanings creates a depth that most music lacks.

He still amazes me with his writing abilities. It’s such a brilliant verbiage. He always inspires deeper thoughts and deeper emotions

your familiarity here may come from the way he enunciates words like jim morrison.

I cry so hard2 this song. When I even hear this song get brought up, I choke on my tears, stuffing my emotions down as far as I can. I know it's bad, but I don't deal w depression very well, esp when the water works flow hard. 😑

@shaymary5247 It seems to me that several Manson songs sound sad or have that certain mood. I found his music after a bereavement that I never fully got over. That's why I like Manson so much. I hope so much that he will be well in his next life too.

I am a Trance producer and known for writing it, yet, every time I am asked "Glynn, what are your favourite tracks?", you're guaranteed that Manson falls in all 3.
I have spent 25+ years of my life listening to him and this silence is fucking killing me right now.
Broken Needle is another notch in the belt that I'll claim for keeping a lasting imprint in my mind.
The God of Fuck lives on.

Honestly this song really is about evan rachel wood i would say, he just didn’t want to give lime light to evan rachel wood when she was doing the trials on court before she falsely named MM as her abuser. Think about what he says, “all of these lies, are not worth fighting for”.

    • @TheLaunchPadStudio
      @TheLaunchPadStudio  2 роки тому +7

The whole reason the song is called broken needle is he's using that as a double meaning metaphor for his past Relationships: (erw) and personal (himself). With a vinyl record player, a needle only has so many plays in it before it breaks and starts to scratch and destroy any album that's played on it. This occurs partly because of the needle, and partly because of the spinning of the album (think of it as a "it takes two to tango" idea) And after an album is scratched, you cant play it ( or sell it) because it's destroyed. You can only either throw it away or toss it in your attic/ basement or something, never to be heard from again.
When the song repeats at the end with the same spoken line (and guitar line ) it mimics a broken record. Repeating over and over: "I'll never ever play you again" he's saying that the shadow of the past he's lived in is over and he's no longer "marilyn manson" the character he created (at least as we used to know him.)
He's basically lighting a match to the past , not in a means to self destruct, but in a way to give himself no further choice but to create a new future. Making a final peace with the failures and mistakes of the past, before burning it all down to forge a new life.
The significance of 10 years ago the line about "I'll never play you again" being written is as if he was trying to drill the thought in his mind, it's over move on. Chanting it over and over like a mantra, hoping it sinks in and frees him from the torment of the broken relationship with ERW.

@@TheLaunchPadStudio well spoken beautifully, Yea ik all of that already, ive seen so many interviews and vids. but whats new to me is when you mentioned that its actually a double meaning. I thought in the interview he mentioned himself, but now that you’re saying this, he didn’t mention evan cuhz he didn’t want to give her the attention she wants. Literally all of this shit is crazy, i think manson was ready for this, but it got him shocked that he didn’t expect a whole wave of woman accusing him.

    • @TheLaunchPadStudio

@@stitchoooalphaomegaxxx9534 yeah when the album dropped she didnt name him yet. When I heard this track I knew it was him acknowledging it 1st. His music was his version of the events. He let the art tell his side of the story. Then soon after she said was she said.

I loved Marilyn Manson before this interview I adore him now I feel like he's one of the family and he knows what family I'm talking about that dysfunctional messed up group of people that you love but sometimes can't stand to be around so I don't worry about them anymore I'm worrying about taking care of me so I totally Doug where he was coming from for me doing that was reading a book by Damien Nichols coldline Magic and it's changed my life so I'm happy to see that this time during the pandemic for a lot of us with an eye-opener to our own selves. Great job 👍 MM
