- The new rack finally came in. The install is fairly simple, just a reverse of the removal!

I didn't watch the whole video, so maybe he mentioned it, but on the hardlines / fittings on the new rack, they have those protective rubber caps. Under those caps, they have little o rings. Make sure when you remove the protective caps, that you don't pull off the o ring as well. When I took my old one out and was prepping the new one, I noticed a little o ring on my garage floor. I didn't know what it was floor because my garage is usually a mess so I didn't bother with it. I installed everything, put fluid in and had tons of bubbles in the reservoir. I chalked it up to the powersteering o ring needing to be replaced. I removed it just to see how it looked and it seemed fine. It ended up being that tiny o ring on the hardline that was introducing air into the system. Luckily I was able to just disconnect the line and pop the o ring on instead of dropping the whole thing out again. It was a pain in the ass but I was able to do it. Good luck! Thanks for the video.
Finally somebody posting a rack install for a 08 STI
Thanks for putting this together, my 2011 WRX rack started leaking and my lower control arm busting need to be replaced. The dealership wanted, $2100 to fix both. Instead I'm going with the 2015 sti rack, whiteline rack busting, and whiteline lower control arms. And I still save $800! 🙏
Thank you for making these videos!!! I just did this swap on my 2014 WRX because the rack was leaking from the tie rods into the boots and all over my driveway! This was my 2nd rack replacement and my guess was the remanufactured unit I just replaced was not sealed with quality seals and gave up in 10k miles. With the help of your videos I figured I could give this project a shot especially after paying $1200 USD for the first replacement.
Those fluid lines are such a pain, but your tips to lower the rack first and to use a crows foot wrench were genius. I followed your advice on bleeding the system and was able to avoid the system sucking in air. The universal joint fitting tips were spot on as well and was definitely the hardest part.
Steering is a bit heavier now but I figure I will get used to it over time. Hoping my baby is leak free for a while now. Thanks again for the great videos!
I have a 2006 sti. I'm assuming this applies to my year also. Thanks good to know in case
Lots of rockauto car magnets
Great video, it helped a ton. For anyone looking to do this upgrade, verify the new rack is centered before you install! I just went through it and mine was nowhere near center.
How did you center it?? Just picked one up for my 13 Wrx and the motors currently out of the car so wanted to do it now
Thank you for your tutorial, 08wrx is preparing to upgrade tomorrow and has avoided a lot of detours.
You said less, the formation of 5 circles turned into 3 circles is great
hello thanks for the service manual that really helped me
Greetings from Germany
It's a good time to install the row center correction kit as well. Maybe an idea for next video
I've thought about it. But not sure if it's worth it since I'm not really tracking the car. What do you think?
Hmmm
The show 🙌
Awesome Video 🤘 thank you for this
If you get the steering rack meant for the RA, you don’t need the Cusco brace or the Whiteline bushing kit-the brace is the same thickness and the bushings are stiffer than the non RA.
That's good to know!
Can I put that rack in my 12 wrx sedan
Is it recommended to remove the negative terminal for this procedure even though there is no electrical involve in this procedure? Also how hard to undo the lines behind the axle instead of removing from the ps and reservoir return? How much ATF needed to complete the bleeding process? I am going to do mine soon. Ty
Good job dude...
if you could post that service manual id love that i cant find torque specs for rear suspension
Added a link to the video description. Let me know if it works
@@AdrianMorse42069 it works thank you very much thats super helpful.
Does the new steering rack come out the box cantered already? Did you have to mess with the rack at all to canter it before attaching it to the steering shaft?
Looking for the same answers...
Did you figure it out? I’m having the same question
@@dmiluz88 nope I never figured it out
@@jmt0728 mine was, apparently my was already lined up because it had a blue mark/ line on it

Hi great vid could you share that service manual? Thanks in advance
Sure thing. I'll try and link a drop box in the description

Can i not swap this rack into my 2011 wrx without the different bushings?
You can totally use the stock bushings if you want. No issues with that.
@@AdrianMorse42069 thanks man. I already said fuck it and gave it a go and installed it lol!
@@lilchib hell yeah!
Dude will you please send me that factory service manual?
Hey bro I did mine watching this video but my steering wheel feels stiff, I did alignment already…
Did you make sure to bleed the system fully?
Yes, people are telling me that’s how 2015+ steering rack feels because it’s more tight than 2014 steering rack…
You may be binding at the steering column shaft u-joint that is not seated on correctly, had that same experience once before
Adrian as some have asked, did you have center new R&P or was is set from factory? Thanks
In regards to toe angle? The rack is really stiff when brand new so it's difficult to move it from how it came from factory until it's installed. I didn't really notice if it wasn't centered as I took it straight to the alignment shop after the install.
thanks for the reply.. last question, I went from a 2011 R&P to same as you 15+, does this R&P feel stiffer or more driver input? I guess at slower speeds is my question. Thanks Adrian!@@AdrianMorse42069
@@chrislehmann6240 yes it does feel a lot more direct. Feels much better than the older rack and turns much quicker
sorry for the noob question but in this generation wrx is it elecrtic or hydraulic steering stock??
Hydraulic steering in the gen
Hey bro, nice setup video ! I recently changed my rack on my 14 STI Hatch. And now I have the center Diff light blinking, traction light on and hill assist light on .? I tried my best making sure I reinstalled the shaft in the same spot.. and my steering is still hard even tho I bled the power steering system.. anything you can think of ? Thanks
Hmm I'm not really sure what could have happened there. Maybe something got unplugged to the power steering pump? I didn't run in to any complications so I can't comment. If you figure it out let me know and I can post it in the video description.
@@AdrianMorse42069 tried recentering the shaft onto the Rack but still no fix. I checked the SAS degree with a scanner and showing 0.0. I think I messed up my SAS. The hard steering I honestly don’t know where to start. I bled the system for a good while now and still hard..
You need to make sure the wheel turns exactly left and right the same amount. If it is truely straight then you just need to have a zero point calibration performed with a scan tool. Not every scan tool?can do it though.
@@antoniocordova3795 I already made sure it turns evenly. I check the degree with a scanner, it’s reading 0.0’ I think I toasted my Steering angle sensor lol
@@UnDeAdTaZ10 did you bleed it with the wheels off the ground? If the wheels spin enough off the ground it'll throw abs and traction lights, just driving it would turn them off though... if you toasted the sensor I'd expect it to read 0.0 even when it definitely isn't.
would the install on a 2005 sti be basically the same?
I imagine it wouldn't be that much different but I'm not certain with that generation.
That’s not where the CAT goes 😂😂😂
Eye protection, that’s all I have to say.
