What a great how-to video. It is great to see Liam explain what he is doing and most importantly, Why. Little things like how to position the knife on the anvil and how to properly hold the tongs were great tips for beginners. I'm excited for the next in the series.
This is great. You get to see how easy it is for someone who has been doing it a long time and someone just starting. It isn’t as easily as it looks. Great video showing both sides.
I come back to this video periodically when I try to forge a full tang knife. It’s so informative and well explained. Thanks heaps for going to the effort of making it
What a great format for an amateur knife maker. I love how you explain why you are doing each step. I have watched dozens of knife making videos and have not gotten as much out of them as I did out of this one.
Lookin good Chad, nice job 👍 I've always found the easiest way to avoid fish mouth is to upset the corners into the bar, essentially 'rounding' the nose before forging it down into a tip, so it looks sorta like chads billet before narrowing. And Liam, I think a video of you forging some bladesmithing tongs for securely gripping bar stock wood kill two birds with one stone ;) Thanks for sharing
The content you've been putting out recently just leaves me wanting to watch more and more, BUT I'VE ALREADY WATCHED ALL YOUR VIDEOS! You and Wranglerstar got me hooked at the moment.
I do all stock removal, but i love watching videos like this, so when I do get room for an anvil, I got a good idea of what i need to do.... take it easy...
If that is truly Chad's first knife then he did a great job. Like you said my first certainly didn't look like that. Really helps to have a teacher over your shoulder I would think.
Would love a custom Bowie, 12in blade with 3in belly at the handle, sharpened swedge, 5/16 thick blade "stabby" profile, full flat grind,, convex edge, with coffin type stag handle, full tang, brass double guard, longer at bottom, distal tapered tang towards end of handle. Sheath should be kydex with a belt pin to wear inside pants, and also a "dangler " for optional outside of pants carrying with provisions for strapping to a shoulder harness or pack. Ohhh yeeaaah.
The Brotherhood of the Anvil, I know Chad is a good friend and all, but I hope he knows how lucky he is to be getting some one on one mentoring from a soon to be Master blade and Axesmith awesome Vid keep up the great work Gentlemen!
Great job for a first knife, Chad. Liam, yours looks a bit rough as compared with your experience. But hey guys, don't worry, the grinder can fix most mistakes. What metal are you guys using? If you said, I missed it. Thanks and thanks for sharing.
How do you measure the angle of the blade you are making so that you get the best cutting tool for the particular job that you're intending it to be used for as each has a different geomotry for the cut intended
Dude is ripped. Even so Liam you must be careful hammering that hard. You can actually do major damage to yourself. You are actually sending a ton of shock into your body via that hammer. I'm not trying to school you this is something I learned the hard way when I collapsed after hitting like that. You are a far more accomplished smith than myself. You can move the same amount of metal, actually more, with a lighter hammer and fast but relaxed, hits if that makes sense. And stop once you get to that red color. Just take another heat and save your body the punishment
good video, but can be better, work more whit editing, time-lapsing, speed and slow time, music men, where is it? because 25.min to long, Alec Steele, that from who you need to learn about editing
That eraser bit was priceless. 😂
You have to let Chad take home his first knife, one will be enough for the workshop kitchen :)
I second that.
The "match shooting game when the propane is on" is one of my favorite games to play in the workshop.
So good to see Chad forging, I hope this young fella grows up to be a great blacksmith, look after him Liam.
who needs a power hammer when you have a Hoffman
Tayo No joke 😂
Hoffman power hammers
I think you are lucky to have Chad around !
Greg Nowling Hey, Thanks! 🙂

Liam hits it BOOM BOOM BOOM Chad hits it tink tink tink
I think we all saw ourselves in Chad today. Seeing how much trouble he was having lets me know how dangerous I'd be lol
This is an awesome "how-to" and "how-not-to" for forging a knife. Great video!

Always two there are, no more no less. A master and an apprentice.

Only 6minin but it looks like Chad is afraid he's gonna hurt the steel
It's badass how Liam moves the metal. Chas has a good teacher.
Chad really shows it's not as easy as it looks
I do all stock removal, but i love watching videos like this, so when I do get room for an anvil, I got a good idea of what i need to do.... take it easy...
I could see Chad getting better even though the video
Really enjoying seeing chad learn. He’s us noobs. 👍 side note. Liam looking jacked in this vid. 👍# veins #ripped
Great way to teach. Apprenticeship.

Way to go Chad
Yang-a-Lang hahaha all the way from Texas that’s my favorite beer. If only they would ship
Go Chad!!!!!!
I like Chad's original uruk-hai knife design.
Gave it a like on the intro alone.
🔥🔥slowmo the heat wave!!!🔥🔥
Great job Chad I cannot wait to see the finished product, as always love the vids and keep them coming 🔨💪
Get some!! Nice guys!
I learned a couple of new things watching this. Thanks guys!
Great video Liam!!!! It’s nice to see the step by step process. Can’t wait for part 2.
The Brotherhood of the Anvil, I know Chad is a good friend and all, but I hope he knows how lucky he is to be getting some one on one mentoring from a soon to be Master blade and Axesmith awesome Vid keep up the great work Gentlemen!
When I was an apprentice many years ago my master showed me twice, third time if I got it wrong I got a kick up the ass.
The kick should've been up *his* ass when he explained poorly.
Good video guys. Being mostly a stock removal maker and not having done much forging as of yet, I learned a lot in this vid. Thanks!
Way to go Chad. You had an expert teacher. :-D
That was a great video you guys!!! It’s exactly what I needed for learning the sequence of steps involved in shaping... thanks for sharing!!!
Stewie
These look great so far what Steele are you using
I am glad to see that there are still a couple of anvils left our there with............... "RING"
Good job Chad! 👍🏼

Holy Sh#t, look at Liam's arms!
watch out, big boy is in the house hah
spends lots of money on big nice anvils and chooses the home made one. i love blacksmithing
Tayo that’s not a homemade anvil. It is a nice old Austrian anvil!
Yay!!! Let’s go Chad.
Great job chad.
Nice, drinking the Yuengiling

Impressive
I burnt myself watching...
30 sec in Love the intro lol
Yay CHAD!!!
I love tang.
I would love one of those knives.

nice uri hofi hammer
He's looking better, just needs to be hitting harder. But will usually come with more experience.
Ling ling!!!
The difference in the sound of the hammer strikes is jarring.
why u want a curvy spine? Looking grat
Is it weird that I find Liam’s arms very distracting?
Didn't make a slow mo. Pizza eating cinematic sequence though did he!? ;)
Liam, I respect YOUR skills; but your friend Chad wouldn't make it in Nidavalir.
