So we are basically playing a D dorian scale? C major but starting from second degree?

    You made a mistake there?
The C major scale goes c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c. In the scale shown, it corresponds more or less to a D minor scale. One would have to play b flat correctly. Looking at the tones as a whole, one can say that all tones are also contained in C major.

This is based on C major - the erhu is missing the low C so it begins on the second degree of the C major scale (D). There are no sharps or flats in the key signature.

The scale you played on erhu is Bb or Gm in theory and on the piano , on erhu is a 1=C and on the piano in chinese notation generally there are no bemol or Sharp as initial key but there is a proper system to change the name of the tonic i.e 1=D is a real D2 on the piano but a conventional C on the erhu. It Is
      better to speak about
Jianpu (简谱) transcrition with notes as numbers. Erhu Is not a complicated
instrument but notation may be misunderstood from westeners.
