Honestly my favorite scene in Halo 3. Johnson takes the Elite Sniper, and one of them stands up, and you can tell they're still somewhat apprehensive towards each other, but Johnson Marches along with no fear. It cuts to the Marines, and one nudges the other, as if to say "Knock it off, don't stare." Towering over them is the Arbiter, taking the Human weapons. Without dialogue, the music does the heavy lifting and you know something epic is unfolding, the symbol of teamwork. Even Guilty Spark is there. Human, Covenant and even Forerunner, finally all on the same page, rallying behind a single cause. Growing up with the story, finally getting to this point, felt like the epic conclusion this story was reaching. Halo was more than a game, it was an experience everyone growing up with will cherish.

The memorial scene was always very powerful to me. "I can't forgive you for what you did but you have my thanks." I can't imagine the emotions going through his head of standing next to the being who was responsible for Reach and who-knows how many other colonies he might've destroyed but also knowing how he also played a part in saving earth and humanity. I'd be more lenient, considering he was just following orders. Not to say it wasn't wrong, but military mindset coupled with religious fallacy is difficult to escape from mentally. Just saying, Thel was one soldier and religious' follower doing what he was told to do without anyone else making them believe otherwise. It wasn't right, but sometimes people just need help to see beyond what they are told. I blame the prophets more than anyone.

These cinematics are perfect already but yeah, if they remaster the cutscenes in the same way they did with Halo 2 would be mind blowing. They are quite expensive to make though, especially 50 minutes of them.
34:16 I like this little scene. After Chief tells Cortana he keeps his promises, I like how Cortana starts to radiate and glow as if her faith was restored. Man, I miss these old stories.
I don't know why I find the moment at 41:22 so epic, you could tell Chief had a great respect for the Arbiter. Literally I have goosebumps because its when the master chief and Arbiter see each other for the last time.
I don't think not as much people know dude, the arbiter and chief slowly became friends as the story went on, before your marker the chief looks his way. But yeah and uh halo 5 fucked it up, dr hasley comes out to see 117 but damn bro at least make the chief and arbiter give a nod to each other. They fought the fight.
He might be heavily outclassed but you have to acknowledge his bravery for being there with them and who knows maybe he turn into a spartan or an ODST later on because of that uncomfortable moment 😂
30:21 this is the most emotional moment in all of halo i think the one who destroyed it and the one who was supposed to protect the ring are standing together right in front of it. they should be arch enemies but faith somehow managed to make them allies. i find that scene always very touching although it last only for a couple seconds.
30:24 is probably my favorite cutscene in Halo 3. Showing what the Ark was hiding the entire time, how massive the ring actually is compared to the Chief and the Arbiter, a more epic version of the Halo theme that seems to combine the original Halo CE Halo theme as well as the Halo 2 theme. Absolutely beautiful.

Imagine if all the games after that were just fever dreams brought on by Cortana going rampant and whispering her shitty fan fiction to the Chief while he was in Hyper-Sleep. It'd still be a more interesting story arc than what we got. lmao
26:38, hits me right in the feels every time. It truly makes you, the player rather than the master chief, feel like the only one who can "halt what he has set in motion".
40:25 even Cortana has such empathy for Chief because she realizes how good of a friend and person he was to everyone. It really hit her hard that he was gone.
@@xbassault9819 Halo 2 and 3 were originally supposed to be one game but the writers at bungie had to split it due to not having enough time or resources to put a game that large on the original xbox so that’s why halo 3 had some clunky dialogue at a few moments
I like how chief with Arby and Johnson is very stoic and doesn’t talk much, but in the cutscenes with Cortana he lightens up a little like “thought I’d try shooting my way out, mix it up a little” and “we’ll make it” his tone lightens up a little, even though it’s subtle it shows Chiefs and Cortanas friendship and how far they’ve come
42:11 "If we don't make it..." "We'll make it!" "...it's been an honor serving with you, John." What an amazing way to end a trilogy, and then 343 happens. Halo 4 had mixed reviews, and Halo 5 was disliked my the majority of the series' fans. Halo went from being a legendary series, to a series in need of redemption. We'll see how Halo: Infinite plays out.
I remember when Halo 4 was still in planning stages and there was speculation as to what it would be about, a friend was telling me about how the game would take place after the end of the Halo book Ghosts of Onyx, in which when Chief activates the ring at the end of Halo 3 it reopens the portal to the Forerunner “Shield World” Onyx at the end of the book and you would reunite with them as Chief, and so in multiplayer campaign you could play as surviving members of Spartan Blue Team: Kelly-087, Fred-104, and Linda-058, alongside the Spartan-IIIs of Team Saber (all of whom had been trapped in this shield world at the end of the book).
Halo 4 got mixed reviews purely because most of the community at the time did not understand the entire universe in huge depth. The first 3 games, while amazing, do not give what the literature does about certain aspects of the Halo Universe. They gave immense hints to things such as, The Precursors, The Forerunners, the wars that happened, rampancy among AI and how it caused them to become more human vs an AI, which showed Cortana becoming what she became in 4 and eventually 5. This hints were subtle mentioned in the game. "Child of my enemy why have you come, I offer no forgiveness for a father's sin, passed to his son." Screams that the Forerunners did something more than just "encountered the Flood and fought them". It makes it seem like that someone the Forerunners came into contact with wanted revenge on them for some reason. Which eventually evolved into the Precursor-Forerunner war. Before 4 was even announced anyone who was head deep into the lore knew these things were hinted. Cortana's Rampancy is another thing that needed more explanation. She's literally a clone of Halsey's brain and the literature explains in great depth why that matters. Halsey sees Chief as her own son. Cortana going Rampant becomes more human in her existence, which she begins to develop humanity towards Chief, showing their "love interest". Its just the continuity needs more management. 5 was just mishandled in general. 4 was a genuinely good game if you came into it knowing that the Forerunners most likely survived the Halo Array to some extent, just not in the form that they were 100k years before current events. Shield Worlds always hinted that there could be some form of Forerunner colony out there somewhere so the Didact being alive was no surprise to nearly anyone who knew the lore. The Iso-Didact existed in the continuity before Halo 3s release, Spark, in his near insanity, refers to Chief as him in Halo 1. So these things, existed but most did not know about them, leading to Halo 4's mixed take. If people knew this info the game is much better because the player has a clear understanding of what is happening and why.
I always loved the way Bungie characterized Master Chief through body language and actions. When Chief reaches the elevator to the control room, Miranda figures he's not going to make it and takes the dive. When Chief and Arbiter finally arrive, his shoulders slump and his arms hang limp when he sees Miranda's body. You can tell he feels a great deal of guilt for not being faster to the control room. Since we know from the Fall of Reach book that John considered Jacob Keyes a father figure, it's almost as if he lost a family member.
@@turkeygrasslesnatch4742 well doesn’t he think of Halsey as his adoptive mother? I like to think he obviously really cared for Miranda as a adoptive sister lol
The full Arby and Chief love story. -10:00 he had his back turned to Arby. -16:00 Arby standing up for Chief when lord Hood didn’t trust Cortana -26:50 Chief looking back at Arby when teaming up the flood as if to say “Bro, you wanna help me here cuz i really don’t know” and Arby’s probably “ey man lets roll with it but lets be careful”. Just shows Chief was uneasy and seeks some sense of comfort from Arby -28:35 Chief fully trusting Arby after he kills truth knowing Arby is on his side and having no more doubts about it. That’s what that nod of approval was from John in my opinion while lowering his weapon -29:25 before they go back to back, I’m not sure but John lowers his weapon when passing Arby, cuz we don’t point our guns on friendlies. A big change from the start of halo 3 when he hd the magnum up Arby’s throat. Maybe he had not enough space with the AR i don’t know but it was a VERY subtle action. -35:35 Arby following Chief to High Charity -36:35 Arby saying he’d finish the fight with Chief -41:20 The final head nod was hard to infer but it just shows how much Chief started to care for Arby as he was the first to look for him and Arby looked back. For me it was like “hey brother you know what to do, i’ll be right behind you”
@@tTaseric well yeah, we don’t really need dialogue between them, especially seeing as they were the two main playable protagonists in the trilogy. Subtle moments like these are very good rather than having a forced connection crudely shoved down the players throat which makes it feel fake
I was thinking the exact same thing, I’d absolutely love a callback to this moment, except maybe this time Chief is the one that says “We trade one villain for another” I’ll literally cry if they did that
@@Brian_Duke I would have preferred the story went the direction of John, thel, and atriox coming together to take on Cortana and in battle further settling their differences. Given the current backstory before infinite, I think it would work well?
Del Rio wasn't used to having Spartans under his command. Sure he has the Spartan IVs, but they're all augmented marines/ODSTs who are used to the chain of command. Interesting thing about the Spartan IIs is that they were trained to be loyal soldiers, but developed this sort of loyalty to the UNSC itself rather than any commander in it, and gained a sort of defacto position of authority where even the highest ranking officers would listen to them. If Del Rio had ever served with Spartan IIs before, he'd know not to boss one around like that. Hell, Hood even accepted Chief's decision despite believing that he and all of humanity would die as a result.
Well Hood knew that this is the same Spartan that chucked the covenant's own bomb into a big ass cruiser and destroyed it with the help of Cortana. So he knows that if chief trusts her, then he can too.
One of my favorite parts about this is the sheer scale of what you're looking at. Installation 04B is 10,000 kilometers across, almost the same diameter of Earth. When Thel and Chief stepped onto that vantage point, they're shown an entire world being created and released into the universe. And yet for as grand a scene as it may be, the Ark's Foundry is just one section of the station.
the camera pointing behind them as they observe the ring has to be one of the most beautiful shots in all of gaming cinematics, no lie. imagine if it were remastered with Blur
45:18 - One of the greatest endings in a video game of all time. I still get goosebumps watching it. This will always be the real ending to the series for me.
19:50 "It appears I was mistaken." "That's a first." I feel like the scenes where Chief is sarcastic like here or at the beginning of Keyes in CE always hit so damn hard.
Just noticed the Arbiter’s line “Were it so easy...” at the start and at the end, first time as a retort to Johnson’s line of the Arbiter and Chief killing each other, and the last time as a response to Hood believing the Chief dead. The respect he built for him over the course of this game is so cool to see
I feel that people who had the most issues with online had shitty Internet because right after the whole online thing years ago where the servers weren’t working I was able to play it with no problem.
So playing Halo 3 now with a couple of friends for the first time ever to be honest... never did get around to getting an Xbox. Cannot stop shooting the other elite player, tho. He goes like: Can you stop killing me, ffs?! "Were it so easy."
14:00 one of the most iconic scenes in Halo history. Everything from the shipmaster and Hood arguing to Arby taking the rockets from the marines. This brought both sides together
What I truly appreciated, was the realization that they made scenes specifically for co-op. Like, for my first Halo game, and the game I enjoyed with my brother, this made the memory even more special!
If you had been with this series since the first Halo in 2000 to the end of Halo 3, 36:28 to 37:41 was one of the most emotional, nostalgic, and amazing feeling cutscenes you will ever watch in this entire series. It's hits different compared to Return to Sender in Halo 2 or The Ark Reveal cutscene. At the time you knew, this was it, the final moments you would be on a Halo ring for a long time. Then it is revealed its nearly a copy of the Installation 04 and the Caption is Full Circle. You just can't match how incredibly amazing Bungie was in this decade. The Original Trilogy and its subset games still shine so brightly and have aged so well even over a decade after Reach was released.
30:12 this sequence with the new ring rising from the clouds in the middle of the ark with a red sun kissed skyline in combo with the halo theme is one of the most powerful aesthetics I’ve experience in a video game.
I was 5 years old when Halo Combat Evolved came out. It took me a few years of my early youth. But I beat the game. And I remember the day Halo 2 came out. Later my cousin and I stayed up all night to beat the Campaign. It was probably the first time in my life I ever stayed up past midnight. Then Halo 3 came out. That was when I first got Xbox Live. Oh my god the Custom Games. The endless hours of fun. The trash talking. All the cool file share clips and maps. It was unparalleled. I really got to see the beginning and end of an era. I couldn't be more thankful to be a part of it.
16:05 When the music picks up is what really cemented the feeling of finality for me. It’s such a powerful moment as they stake the future of both their races on this one final push - a small beacon of hope for these two races caught in a war they didn’t ask for. The music makes it feel like THE final fight.
There were 4 total factions in this game to take down Truth; the UNSC and Elites being the most notable ones, and the brief allegiance with the Flood, but most seem to forget the fourth one which were the Sentinels.
“Wake me, when you need me.” You think at that point it’s over. But then suspenseful music plays as an unknown planet comes into view. Gives me chills.
@@CombineWatermelon I disagree. It's very reminiscent of Marathon, which was Bungie's previous trilogy and which had huge influence on Halo. It was sort of implied that Master Chief was a reincarnation of the Marathon protagonist, and Chief's "Wake me up when you need me" had the unspoken implication of "And if you never do, then don't." If the fight really was over, Chief would never be woken.
@@CombineWatermelonI respectfully disagree with you. Halo 4 wasn’t garbage, it was a great start to a new trilogy but it wasn’t as good as CE. Halo 5 was absolutely terrible but I’m glad they fixed it with Infinite.
So true. A perfect end but prolonged and I believe it was brought back by 343 for cash. That's it. They kinda tried but the Prometheans were so uninteresting as a foe. The whole game felt so contrived. And don't even get me started on Halo 5.
@@Mike_416 belive not, that's the true, they should've left master chief out of it and make another game set with new and interesting characters, not bastardizing the already existing ones

The opening with Chief carries so much meaning. Look at the way those marines go into instant protect mode, the way Sgt. Johnson took the chip and would have been the one to carry Cortana in an alternate timeline if things worked out differently. All while never leaving the chief behind. Dead or not.
I mean it makes sense, the guy is arguably humanity’s best symbol of hope and the best chance for survival. Especially considering how he stopped installation 04 from firing after fighting the covenant for so many years. Leaving such a symbolic person like that for the prophet of truth to mutilate would of been way more demoralizing for the UNSC as their defending Earth.
i remember sitting down in front of the TV in Colorado.. cold breeze thru the window, mama making scrambled eggs.. i picked up my black Xbox 360 controller that smelled like something i'll always remember... i would turn the 360 on, see and hear that beautiful start-up animation, and then press on Halo 3... and Master Chief and the Arbiter would stand there in the most badass way with the most badass soundtrack ever made... i'm 16 now, and this was 8 years ago.. and the beginning scene sends so many beautiful flashbacks in my head, gives me chills.
Bro, I also live in Colorado and I'm also 16. I had the same experience as you. I LOVED Halo and still do. It's an amazing game that some people take for granted.
I'm going to be honest. 343 pulled a couple netflix moves. Not staying true to the point of the games, but with interesting twist and gameplay. If they were to return to this trilogy's version of gameplay and story, they'd definitely redeem themselves. They tried this in halo 4. They made a good attempt, a great attempt actually, but it didn't reach up there. Halo 5 was them trying to add in new stuff when in truth it didn't work out. Hopefully halo infinite will learn from it's predecessors mistakes.
I miss Halo so much it’s a forgotten memory, you know it’s bad when you went from knowing all the lore in chronological order to barely remembering it. Halo was my favourite gaming franchise when I was younger I gotta get back into it, seeing this has brought back many memories of a forgotten age of my life. (Currently reinstalling the master chief collection to replay the campaign)
41:36 this scene right here... Is perfection. Cortana almost loses Chief again after they spent almost the whole game apart. He survives just barely and slowly claws and clambers his way back up to her, reminiscent of the toil it took bring her back in the first place. Then the final shot. God. That shot is perfect. The players want to see that explosion. That's what we came for. The action. But it's all about the emotion. Between these two characters right now they need each other to know that they're safe. And that is exactly what Chief does. As the ring is destroying itself in the background, Chief places himself between it and Cortana, blocking it from view and taking up the entire frame, as if to say, wordlessly "Don't worry about that. I'm here." And Cortana acknowledges this safety by standing up to meet him. So perfect. We were too lucky to get these games as they were.
23:03 "High Charity... by the gods, brace for impact!" When i saw this first i was very scared and all, but i remember the enormous amount of goosebumps i got! That was awesome! I mean, imagine you look up into the sky and suddenly this huge ass spaceship appears out of nowhere and it looks like it is going to crash...
Man so many years later and still get so excited watching the cutscenes to these games, I truly hope the franchise can evolve into capturing the hearts of the next generation of gamers as it did for many of us growing up playing the originals

23:56 "Not close enough." I didn't grow up with halo the way some people did, but that line hits me hard every time, because Chief knows somebody, he can't be sure who, but somebody isn't going to make it out of here, not because he messed up, not because he didn't fight hard enough, not even because he wasn't fast enough. But because, as he's riding up that long, quiet, oh-so-horribly slow elevator that he has no control over, there just isn't enough time.
29:50 it's super subtle but I love how chief looks to make sure the arbiter is fine after the drop. Really shows that chief does care about the arbiters safety, even if he doesn't express it in words.

Halo 2 and 3 were originally supposed to be one game but the writers at bungie had to split it due to not having enough time or resources to put a game that large on the original xbox so that’s why halo 3 had some clunky dialogue at a few moments
@@ohdahngboi_2237 How does that explain dialogue at all.
I like how chief with Arby and Johnson is very stoic and doesn’t talk much, but in the cutscenes with Cortana he lightens up a little like “thought I’d try shooting my way out, mix it up a little” and “we’ll make it” his tone lightens up a little, even though it’s subtle it shows Chiefs and Cortanas friendship and how far they’ve come
42:11
"If we don't make it..."
"We'll make it!"
"...it's been an honor serving with you, John."
What an amazing way to end a trilogy, and then 343 happens. Halo 4 had mixed reviews, and Halo 5 was disliked my the majority of the series' fans. Halo went from being a legendary series, to a series in need of redemption. We'll see how Halo: Infinite plays out.
Chief dying there would have been a little dumb.
I really like 4. 5 is my least favorite.
Halo 4 was a good game man
Halo 4 got mixed reviews purely because most of the community at the time did not understand the entire universe in huge depth.
27:16 Chief putting down his rifle. Very subtle yet heartbreaking.

-26:50 Chief looking back at Arby when teaming up the flood as if to say “Bro, you wanna help me here cuz i really don’t know” and Arby’s probably “ey man lets roll with it but lets be careful”. Just shows Chief was uneasy and seeks some sense of comfort from Arby
-28:35 Chief fully trusting Arby after he kills truth knowing Arby is on his side and having no more doubts about it. That’s what that nod of approval was from John in my opinion while lowering his weapon
-29:25 before they go back to back, I’m not sure but John lowers his weapon when passing Arby, cuz we don’t point our guns on friendlies. A big change from the start of halo 3 when he hd the magnum up Arby’s throat. Maybe he had not enough space with the AR i don’t know but it was a VERY subtle action.
-35:35 Arby following Chief to High Charity
-36:35 Arby saying he’d finish the fight with Chief
-41:20 The final head nod was hard to infer but it just shows how much Chief started to care for Arby as he was the first to look for him and Arby looked back. For me it was like “hey brother you know what to do, i’ll be right behind you”
All of this and Chief says 1 single word to him the entire game
@@tTaseric well yeah, we don’t really need dialogue between them, especially seeing as they were the two main playable protagonists in the trilogy. Subtle moments like these are very good rather than having a forced connection crudely shoved down the players throat which makes it feel fake

Hood: Do you trust Cortana that much?
Master Chief: Yes sir.
Del Rio: SUrRenDer ThAt Ai!
Love that Hood had balls.

When i saw this first i was very scared and all, but i remember the enormous amount of goosebumps i got!
Damn... I remember the graphics being super realistic back in 2007, this makes me feel old
The game still looks great. It was never meant to look realistic either. It was supposed to look cartoony. Just look at the cod games in 2007.
The art style makes it iconic though
You know a game/franchise is legendary when you get emotional and attached to every character, and it means more to you than “just a game”. Halo will always be more than just a game, but millions of peoples childhoods
30:20 is my 2nd favourite cutscene in any video game.
Same here
What's the name of the soundtrack?
@@cloud8616 the closest thing I could find is roll call
@@m0710354 It plays at the end of "gravemind".
Wait what’s the first?
One of my favourite games growing up. My brother and I use to play this all the time aha
Lol same but I still play this
18:39 I don’t know why but I’d love to be that pilot
35:00 “keep your head down; there’s two of us here now remember?” Who else noticed the cool reference to Halo CE! So iconic
16:54 is still easily one of the best moments of the series.
"Thought I'd try shooting my way out, mix things up a bit."
Best one-liner in the trilogy.
29:50 it's super subtle but I love how chief looks to make sure the arbiter is fine after the drop. Really shows that chief does care about the arbiters safety, even if he doesn't express it in words.
It's been nine years since I first beat Halo 3. But watching the funeral scene again immediately made me teary eyed. Goodness the memories and emotion and music and nostalgia. 42:30
