Thanks for watching!
why December Tornadoes happen... sometimes.
Just found this channel. Ok, noted don't take his cookies, got it.
E
Ye
cookies might suck, be careful
If you take his cookies. Sleep with one eye open tonight, don't take his cookies
that was funny
you definitely deserve more subs lmao, that cookie scene alone got me
Haha thank you I plan to make cookies as often as humanly possible
Agreed!!
Well done and very informative me and my family where hit by the Ky tornado in Dawson springs Ky, we will never forget this day on dec. 10th 2021. We lost are 2 month old little girl due to injuries from the tornado and so every since then I’ve been learning as much as I can about tornadoes so I can be super prepared so thank you!!!! For the content
I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I'm glad you are taking it upon yourself to be more weather aware. I wish you and your family well!
God's healing to your family.
I grieve your terrible loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending love to your family.
back in 2015 an EF4 went through the city right next to mine on the day after christmas. like you could see it across the lake separating my city from where it hit. just having it that close was scary enough, but considering i drive through that area fairly regularly, seeing the damage afterward was like... there's honestly just no words to describe it.
every season is tornado season here in north texas tbh.
I know exactly what you're talking about as I too live in that area.
tornado recipe looks complicated, will stick to cookies instead
this is always advised
I remember roughly around 2008ish in the winter time we had a outbreak of tornadoes occur in sw Missouri, the tornado passed just to the south of my old house and then another tornado formed to the nw part of the community i once lived in, killing a 80 plus old lady. That tornado was worse than the one by my home, heavy destruction of trees and homes was insane.
back in Dec, 05 there were tornados here in central Kansas. I remember sitting on my back porch and the sirens start going off, my roommate and i looked at each other with bewilderment. No damage here in manhattan but still weird even for Kansas. snowed that week too if i remember right. A few years ago it snowed here in early May too. We get a bit of everything here, even earthquakes and hurricane leftovers.
Just had this channel show up in my recommended videos last night, and I gotta say I really love all of the content. I love the breakdowns and how professionally you present topics to viewers. Certainly subbed, and saving all these videos in my weather playlists.
Thank you!
I live in Washington State, which in the past few years has experienced a few December tornados (this is really odd anyways because we don't really get tornados here) which hasn't really been a thing before. New winter hazards for an area more concerned about the rare giants, that is earthquakes and volcanoes.
One unusually muggy December day in Virginia, 2019, I was in high school when a tornado warning went on. Stuck with three classes worth of students hiding in a windowless classroom. Even through multiple layers of cinder block, we could hear the wind and rain. Weather update, a funnel cloud landed a few miles away. It is coming awfully close. THUMP THUMP. Branches from nearby trees hit the roof. It went directly overhead. An eerie quiet settled. The AC unit on the roof broke, a branch got lodged in it. The tornados left but could still come back. Now to wait out the rest of the storm. Roads to the school were ruined, so even the people that decided to drive home then got stuck. Inside the classroom it was very stuffy and very boring. After the main excitement of the evening, yes evening at this point, no one was prepared to talk as we processed what the outside world might look like. No windows also means no signal to the outside world. But at least theres somewhere to sit, its better than the hallways. Around 5pm parents could now pick up their kids if they could get to the school. The busses wont be able to start the three hour cycle between the schools for another hour. The high school got picked up at 7pm that night.
⚓📻📺Battleship RadioTV salutes you. The information, the glorious music (I think it was 80's synth or electronic)🎧, the stupendous cookies🍪🍪!!!
It was like watching the weather channel, the radar radio channel (channel 60, I think, at one time), and even PBS or National Geographic. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. it is extremely evident, that you put a lot of effort into your video broadcasts, yet your amazingly relaxed. Bravo, kind sir. You are awesome☺️.
🌬️🌤️⛈️🌁🌪️🌩️
6:25 Why does that look like a monster painting. Dope as hell
This channel is so good! My favorite weather-related channel, in fact.
Thank you!
Winter weather has been garbage the past few years. This winter had a lot more snow than usual and was not blazing hot like it was in 2016 and we got snow in the middle of spring. And we had a tornado last week with zero warnings from phones or the new siren they put in nearby. So yeah weather's been wacky for everyone I guess.
I've been watching for bit and only just now realized how small of a channel this is
Love the content!
These videos never fail to make my day. I love everything about weather, from the meteorology behind it to the social and historical scene surrounding it. Keep it up!
I so look forward to seeing this channel grow!
God I don’t even like weather but your Witt and personality got me hooked onto this channel, OBSESSED!
Just found your channel, great stuff!
I grew up in Tuscaloosa and was a kid but I very much remember the 12/2000 F4. It missed our house by like .2 miles, ears popped, heard debris hitting the house and everything.
It seems like some of the worst tornadoes we had while I was growing up we’re in November/December.
Just found this channel and I’m in love already!
I’ll never forget the EF-4 tornado in Holly Springs, MS on 12/23/15 that took the lives of 9 people- including a little boy.. 2 days before Christmas. It shook this town and we still have the scars from it. 💔
Your vids are super informative, interesting and the quality of the overall production is great. Subbed homie
that early january severe weather outbreak of 2023 was the first time i had ever took shelter in an interior room. i was at my aunt's house alone and i believe it was about 11 in the morning when i got the tornado warning and they were saying radar confirmed rotation basically right on top of the neighborhood. i remember just pushing everything out of the closet in a panic not caring how much of a mess i made and sitting there in the closet crying and texting with my mom. im SO grateful there was only bad wind damage to the trees and outdoor furniture, made me think "huh, i love tornadoes until there's one trying to form on top of me."😅
You've got a knack for this stuff, keep it up
I love the channel and also on Dec 10 I was 5-10 miles from the tornado
You are very good 8n providing the information.
We had a veterans day tornado few years ago.
It was unpredicted, out of nowhere it became dark, then heavy rain with pea size hail then the winds, finally the storm sirens as it went by at the same time.
Another time a local weather man said chance of severe weather. As I looked out my window about mile away was small tornado 🌪 8n.perfect form light gray in color traveling along or near to.
Thanks Jeff! That's an interesting story. I'm glad none of the tornadoes hit you
Found your channel from recommended (ryan hall yall probably) gotta say, im confident in the decision to subscribe
No way, I’m in the Cleveland area too! That’s awesome.
I know I’m a bit late to the party lol. I just found your channel. 😊
Dudeee I was in between the tornado that came up from Tennesee and the new mesovortex that ended up putting down the one that went through BG. I have footage where you can see it moving over me while the long track is just a little to my north ripping up northern Logan county. That was an intense night but nothing like New Years. At least on Dec 10th I could look at radar and see what was happening. You couldn't tell anything on New Years and it was terrifying. One minute there was an EF2 in Hopkinsville, the next there wasn't. Then it put that little EF0 down in BG for half a second or so. That was one crazy QLCS.
I wasn't scared on the 10th, but on New Years, I was terrified.
Im from 20 minutes north of Mayfield. We watched that monster on radar for several hours. It was completely ominous watching it move into our area.
The cookie bit had me dying 🤣
December 10-11 reminds me of the Rowlett Tx tornado back on Dec. 26 2015 a very powerful EF4 ripped through that city causing mass damage I just pray that doesn’t happen again
Grewat vid weatherbox!
I grew up in the southwest suburbs of Cleveland OH and I remember in elementary school during the early 90s we did tornado drills in August/September but later on tornado drills took place in the spring.
Hey man! Just started watching your content, really good stuff! I've been a huge severe weather nerd since I was about 7 years old (23 now). I was just curious as to what applications you use for reading and gathering your weather data/reading radars, base velocities, etc.?
Right before that event a derecho storm hit here in Nebraska. It was the same storm that made its way to Kentucky. It produced tornadoes here as well.
Great video
On December 11th at 3am, a EF 1 touched down 2 miles from my home in Ohio during that outbreak and destroyed three buildings. The weather service had no idea and neither did we until that next morning. Closest I’ve ever been to a tornado and didn’t even know i was ever at risk.
Funny about the cookie bit😆
I live in Dixxie Alley.. Tornado season for us is November 1 -thru June 1st. Then hurricane season is June 1 thru November 1st. We like it hot, humid, wet and windy here around the Gulf of Mexico.
Underrated
the derecho in Wisconsin tore my family's house up mainly because of a tornado that hit us. Its surreal how a tornado is possible in that late of the year.
Our tornado season in Alabama September through may. We don't get as many during the summer unless they're tropical.
0:52 There's never a needed excuse to make cookies/cakes/pies/other confections; just do it if ya want it, lolz
...
One of my favorite confections to make, is a pomegranate-apple-blueberry pie.
Where's the views and subs? This guy is great
Thanks! I'll keep working hard
I was in that outbreak and slept through it Luckily we werent hit and went to school. We did a charity and donated supplies and toys for the people who were hit at my school.
Lots more information on skew T charts and hodographs please Steve
I grew up in Paducah Kentucky and I was lost looking at Mayfield
I live in Minnesota and l was under a tornado watch in December
Babe wake up, new weatherbox video dropped
what weather radar did you use (btw nice video jus found this channel and you make some pretty good videos)
Thank you! Radar is GRlevel3 it's about 80 bucks I believe
@@weatherboxstudios thanks
James Spann tells us he believes in Dixie Alley our tornado season starts in November and runs through April.. we have had many Christmases under tornado warnings. And we had one in January 2012 that killed a 16 year old girl and destroyed my in laws home in Center Point, AL. I have a lot of pictures of that too..it was an EF-3.
My house is about a 1/2 mile to a mile away from this tornado when it crossed the Kentucky Lake.
I was in East Peoria during the December 2018 outbreak. Sitting in my hotel watching the weather channel and seeing the cell that dropped a tornado by Pekin was making a beeline towards us. Them we hear on TWC one of the weathermen saying that that storm is headed right for the center of Peoria and he's hoping it'll skim to the east . I was like uh I'm east of Peoria you ahole!! Fortunately the tornado lifted and the rotation went over our hotel and my roommate and I grabbed beers and stood outside watching it roll through. Crazy night!
In may there was a lot of tornado warnings and in winter I was like I hope no tornados this summer and the sirens went off more than 5 times
There was a tornado in my home town, bowling green. The tornado was so close and it was so loud, but luckily I did not get hit. That thing sounded like a literal train
That sounds terrifying, I'm glad you didn't get hit
Yeah, thank you. It was a huge wedge too so I am most definitely glad
I live in Dixie Alley. This year looks like it might be another warm winter 🥴
Well I'm glad Christmas wasn't warm.
and MN got hit too on the 15th of dec. last year
Aside from the December 10th, 2021 tornado that hit Mayfield, Kentucky; I was rather shocked by the tornado that hit Washington, Illinois on November 17th, 2013. The tornado that hit Washington, Illinois occurred just eleven days before Thanksgiving; and as a result the residents of Washington had gone from being excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas to feeling helpless and heartbroken. To add to their misery it snowed a week after the tornado; which hindered cleanup efforts.
Illinois-Iowa’s late season November-January tornadoes are very common oddly.
Explain why a 2017 EF2 hit Northeast PA (Wilkes Barre) during whats supposed to be the coldest part of winter on February 25th followed by a late winter blizzard on March 14th that dropped 3+ feet of snow in the same area. My birthday Dec 21 of 2016, the first day of that winter season, was in the upper 70s it also was on Christmas here. The tornado was on the ground for several miles and lasted almost a half hour traveling from Wilkes Barre in Luzerne County and crossing into Lackawanna County. Its rare enough to have a winter tornado in the US as it is but among the coldest areas of the country where the topography being a valley city makes it lesser prone to tornadoes to begin with getting hit is unheard of.
So, I live in Minnesota, Ellendale and a neighboring town, Hartland had a tornado hit on December 10th, 2021. We had no snow all winter really. We got some in October I think and then it melted.
We then got snow in the third week of December and it stayed. But, we were close to getting hit.
I wish a video would cover the rowlett tornado of 2015 😭😭
Hey if you dont mind me asking will you mind telling me what websites you use to track weather?
December 16, 2000. Balmy and muggy, sourhern part of Tuscaloosa gets hit by an F4 tornado, killing 11. Next day, arctic cold front brought in much colder air, and snow flurries fell on the hit areas. Not unusual for December tornadoes.
In WI we had a lot of december tornados
A Great Lakes Water Spouts topic would be good. I saw one on the radar the other day. I screen shot it live. Do u have an email I can send it to?
TBH Idk why I thought this would be about the Toradoes in the upper midwest since it also happened in December
Hey Ohio had this just this year but I’m n February. It went from snowing to tornados to 70 and sunny
Pardon me for the stupid question (I’m new here) but I was just wondering If you are or are studying to become a meteorologist? You seem very bright, and you have a great narrator’s type of voice that would be great for TV!
When you can, please explain C.A.P.E. in more detail. Thank you.
How have I never heard the term: Dixie Alley!? I live in Tennessee, and I always figured that we were also in tornado alley. Lol. I grew up in southwest Florida, so it is understandable that I am clueless about Tornadoes
To be fair Dixie Alley and standard Tornado Alley are all kinda merging together. There's really no defining line anymore. Looks like it will be active in Dixie Alley this year though
@@weatherboxstudios Oh it's worse than that, tornadoes are just taking over North America bit by bit.
Where do you do live weather coverage?!
Yeah was crazy had tornadoes in Minnesota fucking Minnesota in December it was like what the hell
A little science goes a long way in understanding what's going on with these tornadic event's and you're the best at getting the fact's out to the general public.
We can't thank you enough. Keep these videos coming. 😎
Oh yeah....... I just found your channel too. That's the reason behind my late comments. Subscribing now.😎
bro even in michigan we got an ef1 in my town in december back in 2015 lmao
Came for the tornadoes stayed for the cookies.
I am here for the weather content, but I am not going to complain about the cookies.
You missed the January 2008 Kenosha ef3!
So I live in north Alabama and January 1st probably would have been worse if their wasn’t such a strong cap because all day we had sun shine an the temp got up to 82 with dew of 70 but we had about a 5 degree cap the couldn’t be broken
I was in that tornado in Georgia
What weather radar website are you using?
0:50 lmao moooood
On January first it was raining for me
Dixie alley at its finest, winter tornadoes are super common here
ah, december tornadoes. those things are freaking scary.
at 1:10 you mention wind shear. Never understood how that horizontal action translates to the vertical column that is the tornado.
Basically, vertical wind shear creates horizontal vorticity (think of it like a long, horizontal tube of rotating air). This tube gets tilted into being vertical by the storm's updraft. It's then strengthened by being stretched thinner, making it rotate even faster ( due to the conservation of angular momentum), which helps in tornadogenesis.
I miss the radar background
and two years later a nother one almost on the exact same day
I hate December tornadoes. It's supposed to be cold, and feel like Christmas. We've had tornadoes on Christmas Day in Alabama. It' awful. It takes away from the mood of Christmas.
Hey Weatherbox do you mind telling me what radar app your using??
For sure, this is GRlevel3 which is 80 bucks, GR2analyst is better but 250 bucks
@@weatherboxstudios oh ok thank you I just found your channel and omg I love it I can’t believe your not very big on UA-cam your content is amazing!!!
Ayy, i lived in kentucky so i experienced it, luckily i live on a hill so im gud
What's the month that has the least amount of tornadoes
Bro used the cookie ingredient compared to the tornado ingredient just to make cookies 💀💀💀
it's weather time
US: Gets severe thunderstorms even in winter
People living in northern europe: What is a thunderstorm?
Hey a felow ohioan i am from mentor ohio so we preaty much have the same weather, or soo, live near cleveland ,
Your January 1st weather observations ought to put you, perhaps, as eventual chief meteorologist of KDKA or WEWS. : )
Or where the heck is Dr. Greg Forbes? He needs to watch your progress.
Haha thanks Adam, I appreciate your kind feedback :)
You're welcome.
*the “quad state tornado” WAS 2 SEPERATE TORNADOES*
Yes and if you really want to be technical, I think it was actually 5. You had the two EF4 tornadoes, but in between in Tennessee the circulation dropped three small tornadoes that didn't travel far
I approve of cookies.
