    Amazing job! It seems that your soldering skill is growing with each video!! Good to see another V5 alive and kicking, looking forward to see it in a future build!

      Thank you! Yeah I'm doing a lot more repairs, way more confident now. Yeah going to use it with some pretty nice hardware.

    Dude! You did an amazing job! 3Dfx was such an important company for the history of PC gaming. Never used a Voodoo 5, but I remember when I first got a Voodoo 1 and booted a game. It was seriously a shocking moment seeing games run and look at lot better so quickly.

      Thanks!! They really were hey. That's cool, wasn't Voodoo 1 the 1st proper 3d accelerator for PC or something?

    • @LusRetroSource
      @LusRetroSource 3 роки тому

      @@ScanLinesAU The Rendition Verite might be the first proper accelerator, but the Voodoo 1 was the first to get it everything right. You felt like you got an entirely new computer after using it.

    The way you edited this video looks really nice. I can't quite tell what is different about it (maybe nothing!) but I like it! Also your microscope/recording setup when you were repairing the board is super clever

      Thanks, well I've started adding music to some videos now, so I think that definitely helps. Also using transitions to make everything smoother, new lighting too, yeah a lot of things have changed recently! Oh yeah, I just used my phone for that, it actually worked really well!

    Wow! Good work! Just some extra advice though, even though it is working now you should think about replacing the electrolytic capacitors - they are what have been killing these cards over the years, they are so old now they need replacing. If you replace them per-emptively, you should protect the card for the future. Well done again! So impressed someone so young has such skills & interest in older hardware.

      Haha thanks, I actually did do a full recap of the card a while back now since it was having some other issues. Works perfectly ever since

    That looked like a tough job. How did you know which components needed to be replaced?

    • @ScanLinesAU
      @ScanLinesAU  3 роки тому +1

      Yep sure was. I just looked for ones which were either missing or damaged. It was easy to tell if a part was missing, since the solder pads would have solder on them, with an indentation of where the old component sat.

    Where did you find the values for those 2 caps? The online list sure does not contain.
    Thanks.

    Anyone know which SMD caps I need for C505 and C506 mine have gone missing? Card still works but every once and a while I get lines and a crash at boot. I’ve got the list of components for the Voodoo5 but I’m not sure what to buy.

    How old are you? Sounds like the voodoo has 10 years on you? Great job and awesome to know there are some youngsters into retro hardware :)

    3dfx card always run smoother on glide

      That's true, though in this example I just wanted to confirm the cards functionality.
