Hearing how rough the demos are should be encouraging to other songwriters. It shows how much can be done by following the initial inspiration and putting in the work.

'If I Fell', it's a perfect example to show how progressive elaboration works, a concept in project management, layer by layer, so to speak. Any idea we have, just TA (take action), and as there's a time for everything, time will bring new ideas to turn whatever it is into a/'our' masterpiece, if it's meant to be.

Yes, I hear it.. Good ear! It must have been something he picked up from another vocalist consciously or not. It happens a lot with vocal 'fills'.. especially in soul music I've noticed. They're more regular in soul I guess which is probably why? With Michael Jackson you can hear Stevie Wonder's fills. I've heard others repeat Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Aretha etc.. can't think who off the top of my head though. If you go back through John's influences I bet that little riff is in there somewhere at the end of a phrase in a song he liked.

What a lot of you dont comprehend is that these were mostly done on their own reel to reel tape machines or cassette recorders in their own homes...hence the demo titles...most were not done in the studio like other rarity tapes. These are fleshing out ideas. By the time they got them to the studio they were mostly worked out.

The instrumental guitar noodling is a revelation. There early records on electric guitars had more simple phrasings. But they were capable of much more which showed up in their later albums. The phrasings from Rubber Soul to Get Back and Abbey Road had their origins in this jamming and noodling. Just great. Deepens the understanding of their instrument skills as well as their songwriting processes.

When he sings, "...cause I couldn't stand the pain...!" He's singing about a hypothetical situation in which he would feel pain and he "would be sad if our new love, was in vain." He's NOT singing about pain or sadness he feels. He mentions pain and sadness he would feel if the situation were different than what he's hoping for.
The whole song is about someone asking another person if they would hurt him if he fell in love with them. It is NOT about being hurt.

Good spot. It's kind of a half strumming with some fingerpicking thrown in but not done very well. Sounds like a beginner. This demo would be 1966 in California after the tripping episode with Peter Fonda. It does sound a bit Byrds-ish and mid 60's West Coast influenced. Even on 'Julia' from late 67 (recorded 68) he still sounds like he's getting to grips with it. Not a great technician obviously but I really like him as a guitarist. His rhythm stuff from the touring years goes under the radar but is very solid and more interesting than people give it credit for.

It makes me sad rlly. But he improved so much and to see he's glad about that was precious. It is nice to have an insight on something that happened so damn long ago-

One and One is Two was recorded by The Strangers with Mike Shannon on the Philips label in 1964. It sank without trace, which along with Tommy Quickly's Tip of My Tongue, were not the best of the Lennon/McCartney catalogue. Throw in What Goes On as well as that should have been left off Rubber Soul.

All you need is a few chords then rpt verse chorus verse middle & a good production team that create a full blooded song on vinyl. Every Beatles song bar Yesterday needed these people in white coats.

I read on other links that "Michelle" -- *this* particular audio clip is fake. Can anyone verify its source that it is real, and not just something that was taken from some other "fake" link?

So far there is no answer, at the moment it seems to be real, but in the future it will probably be resolved

It's not a fake. This demo came from Alf Bicknell's collection, who was the driver for The Beatles.

Obviously xD, for example it was known that the supposed demo we can work it out is false, it is actually a version that Paul sang for the 80s, but at least I gave myself the task of looking for the material that if it is confirmed

Looks like Bob Wooler on Paul's right?
I had this tape...and I could hear it wasn't the Beatles on most tracks.
    ....but was on others.
I thought the claims on the sleeve that they were lennon and McCartney songs were lies.
It's been years...and I've thrown the tape too....but the odd songs like one and one is two were much better, full finished performances than these....shame.
