Note that this device can also simulate cobble stones. It does require that you have a family member that is willing to shake you violently at the appropriate moments, though. (Family member not included with purchase.)
Si and GCN, I just want to say thank you! I enjoy tech as much as Si does, and watching these weekly unboxing videos continues to be one of the high points of my week! Maybe that means I'm a huge nerd, or maybe that my life is boring (but most likely both!), but keeping up to date with the latest and greatest cycling tech is just fun! More than that, the added bonus of signing up for a contest is most exciting, great for keeping the enthusiasm and interest up when winter conditions aren't the greatest! Keep being incredible!
I went for a ride yesterday and today morning, - 4 degrees (yes minus four degrees ).. but I followed every advice from the GCN video of "What To Wear For Winter Cycling" and it was great.... now... I would love to get that trainer so now I would have a good excuse to use your indoor training session videos guys!!
What an awesome trainer, the benefits of training with one of those would be EPIC , great stuff !! loving the GCN theme of technology in cycling it always brings up many different opinions and arguments .. but if it helps training I'm all for it 😃
Initially I bought this unit for the power accuracy of +- 0.5% but after using the Elite Drivo ii for two weeks I am forced to return it. 1. Whenever I pause in ERG mode and then resume the workout, for some unknown reason the unit applies maximum resistance and I am unable to continue. At this point, the only solution is to get off the bike, unplug the machine, and restart the entire workout which costs precious training time. 2. Despite being advertised as 3 times faster than its predecessor, the unit takes 15-20 seconds to change resistance in ERG mode. Even for slight changes, say 150 watts to 250 watts, this lag is present essentially rendering ERG mode unusable. This is simply not acceptable for a trainer that costs $1,200. 3. In addition to the lag mentioned in (2), the unit overshoots and undershoots power in ERG mode and is not steady. For example, if I am going from 150 watts at 90 RPM to 250 watts at 100 RPM, when I increase my cadence, the unit initially drops power well below 150 watts (I assume it thinks that I am overshooting the current set power) and only after 5 seconds or so it will get used to the new cadence and slowly ramp up to 250 watts, thus compounding the lag and making ERG mode worthless. 4. Finally, even while keeping steady cadence in ERG mode, the resistance can sometimes drastically increase or decrease at random. For example if I am at 150watts for an interval and then jump to 300watts, for the first 5 to 8 seconds it will stay consistently at 400+watts, which ruins the interval and makes it difficult to continue. Furthermore, as explained in (3), when doing longer intervals, say at 200watts, the resistance sometimes can rocket to 230watts and then suddenly drop to below 200 watts and then settle to 230w again, which ruins the interval since it adds even more time to the lag. 5. I cannot connect to Zwift properly using Bluetooth Smart FTMS. 6. Using the “Upgrado” app by Elite srl does not fix anything. This is a high end and expensive trainer and unfortunately basic things don’t work. It seems that I have experienced every single problem that other users in these comments have complained about. Elite advertises this unit as 3x faster than before but this is not the case. I do not want to deal with Elite to get them to fix the ERG mode issues as I believe that at a price of $1,200, a trainer should simply work as advertised and there is no indication that they will be able to fix the max resistance issue (1) when pausing ERG mode. I will be returning it and buying the Saris H3 or Wahoo Kickr. Thanks for reading.
The Elite Drivo trainer would be the ideal device to check the accuracy of power meters. You could have a bike with a powermeter in the pedals, on the crank and in the rear hub. Put the whole assembly on the Elite Drivo trainer and you would get 4 power readings! I'll let you guys figure out which is the most accurate.... Good Luck....
wow your giving that away thanks GCN. Also i have got a cyclocross bike and have a pair of full mud tires. I am looking to by another set of tires but not sure what type. I was thinking either slicks or a file tread. What would you choose.
The Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt is actually the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. So it's more than just a lab in Germany.
hi gcn. i am a big fan who has been subscribed for 4 years. i really enjoy all the videos you post. in fact it eas your chanel that started my pure love of cycleing. anyway. if it is possible please can you do a video of how to train for the veledrome. thank you and sorry for the large message
Whatever happened to going out the road and enjoying the countryside and socializing with your club mates? I fear these turbo machines are killing the traditional club run scene. The weather in the UK is rarely bad enough to stop you going outside for a ride. The best memories I have of being a cyclist are the wonderful club runs that we used to go out on, the people we used to ride with and hills we used to climb. I feel sorry for the hamsters who prefer to do all their training on the turbo, as they are missing out on so much.
I wish they would come up with a compact home training kit as a bike won't fit in my cupboard of a flat! the compact exercise bike I have is designed around the anatomy of something other than the human body! Losing my right eye has meant I haven't been out on my bike in over a year - too risky when you don't have the"corner of the eye" vision to see the approaching trouble. Things like zwift look great to give motivation to exercise - it's surely not difficult to merge the intelligent trainer and compact exercise bike?! Perhaps there's a gcn video in the making - how hard can it be?
Wonder howlong untill turbotrainers that use the resistance and the effort of the cyclist to acually generate power for itself and other devices, would love to charge my phone from my turbo trainer, if I had one that is
A Donahue Maybe they can add a power outlet to it so you can sell electricity back to the grid. Sort of like the Black Mirror episode 15 million merits
Hello gcn I am looking to buy an aluminum frame endurance bike. I am looking to choose between the Merida ride 400 and the canyon Endurace al 6.0. Could you please advise me on which is the better bike? Please help thanks
Does direct drive train trainers damage a frame? It seems like there would be more stress on the frame. Just wondering. It seems like it would save you a back wheel from putting extra stress on the axial and spokes.
Hi Russell, we covered this in an Ask GCN a few weeks back. I've not heard of actual damage occurring and also I'm not sure any frame manufacturers' warranties are voided by use on a turbo trainer. Cheers, Tom
Global Cycling Network Thanks for the quick response Tom! I guess I got confused. I thought that was referring about the more common trainers that hold the back wheel. I have been using one of those for years with the only damage coming from torquing down the flywheel to hard and getting a wobble in the axial when I first started using a trainer. I worked at a bike shop and never had a customer complain of damage due to a trainer. Thanks for the info.
We haven't heard of any issues with direct drive trainers either. They're preferred by most pro teams now, too. So long as your bike is attached correctly, you'll be fine.
Ewan Chadwell It is good idea to have one spear at home. And it don't have to be topend light weight. And it have no casette. Why would it have that when there are 200 different ones out there and dif manufagtures

As a German, it is hilarious how you pronounce "Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt". Much love for that!
Note that this device can also simulate cobble stones. It does require that you have a family member that is willing to shake you violently at the appropriate moments, though. (Family member not included with purchase.)
Michael Jolley what's the going rate for a cobblestone trainner-shaker person?
Si and GCN, I just want to say thank you!

Agree with the last point, "to be prepared to suffer" - though being less noisy plus not having the neighbors complaining is a PLUS!
What a device. It seems to be really huge. Thank you GCN to those many unboxing.
I hope to win. Fingers crosed. 🙏🏻
"physikalische technische Bundesanstalt" - best phrase I have ever heard from Simon! 😂 More German content please!!!
Thanks for all you do. I learn more about cycling everyday just by watching GCN!

Now this is something I could really use, since there's about 20cm of snow outside, so this would really come in handy. :)
TeKaMOTO - Whatever dude. It got down all the way down to like 50° F today where I live! Misery.
Oh, the humanity! How do you even survive in such a climate?! :D
I know, right? I appreciate the sympathy.
oh damn, we had 40c here the other day which is over 100f
elite makes best trainers your money can buy by a long shot. tacx & wahoo don't even touch the quality of elite trainers
What an awesome trainer, the benefits of training with one of those would be EPIC , great stuff !! loving the GCN theme of technology in cycling it always brings up many different opinions and arguments .. but if it helps training I'm all for it 😃
Superb unboxing Si ! Like always !
thanks GCN boys, good luck everyone
It is Si who re-boxes it for the lucky winner? Any missing parts, like missing water bottles?
Don't worry about the re-boxing Steve, we'll make sure nothing goes missing.
Global Cycling Network I don't mind a missing sensor box if I win 😜
Will it work with US power? Does it come with a US power cable?
Hi Warren, All models shipped to the US come with US specific power cables.
Initially I bought this unit for the power accuracy of +- 0.5% but after using the Elite Drivo ii for two weeks I am forced to return it.

Appreciating the information and give-aways. Thanks guys.
i watch these unboxing-videos for 2 reasons: to win the stuff (obviously...) AND to watch Si´s happy eyes openig the boxes :D
This is THE one. Definitely.
I glad you are getting acquainted with my Elite Drivo. You can put it in the box and send it back to me, its owner. Cheers matess!!!
Best competition yet!
Nice unboxing and good luck in the competition.
As usual enjoy watching GCN, and may win a great trainer ;-)
Smarttrainers are great. I've got one and won't enter. But the winner of this one is in for a fun and sweaty time.
wow your giving that away thanks GCN. Also i have got a cyclocross bike and have a pair of full mud tires. I am looking to by another set of tires but not sure what type. I was thinking either slicks or a file tread. What would you choose.
Something like an intermediate tread Oli - I wouldn't go full file tread.
ok thanks keep up the good work love ya channel btw been whatching for a couple of years
I could sure use this in rainy Vancouver.
i love gcb unboxing even though i haven't been the lucky one yet
This would get posted on the day i break the shifter for my basic tacx turbo trainer
Love the way Simon pronounces German institutes :D
I like this a lot!! Nice unboxing! I hope I win this😁
Good competition. Mine broken in less than a week.
The Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt is actually the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. So it's more than just a lab in Germany.
The Elite Drivo is a sweet trainer. I am really loving the Wahoo Kickr I have !
Yeah a trainer!!!
I tow a trailer on my mtb up 25% hills. it drags going up but coming down again is a great laugh
I hope to test this treasure in the Brazilian temperatures
Please GCN please... i wish i can win something that i really need now.
hi gcn. i am a big fan who has been subscribed for 4 years. i really enjoy all the videos you post. in fact it eas your chanel that started my pure love of cycleing. anyway. if it is possible please can you do a video of how to train for the veledrome. thank you and sorry for the large message
24% gradient? The loudest sound in the room will be my lifeless body hitting the wooden floor.

wow. a trainer which cost the same as my bike.
If i win this, i promise to upload a video of the 24 degree uphill climb!
Here's a drinking game, every time he says "zwift" take a shot
I wish they would come up with a compact home training kit as a bike won't fit in my cupboard of a flat! the compact exercise bike I have is designed around the anatomy of something other than the human body! What are the warm and admirable questions on the competition all about?
hey GCN,
what are all the apps Si talked about in the video? I'd like to check them out! Thanks!
I'm gonna wait till they unbox the tacx magnum
Nice Unpacking
Is the optical power meter similar to how some indoor rowing machines, like the waterrower, work?
Already have a drivo
If you win can I have it???? :D
How about a more pedestrian unboxing, like a wrench (spanner)?
Matt Burkey yeah, I'd like that. Maybe a basic set of Park Tools for the home mechanic!
Jesus guys. I need thissssss
This is depressing... out of the last 5 videos, 4 are about products/brands or fashion. Hope to see more, er, universal stuff soon.
@GCN thank you ahead of time for let them everyone know I'm the winner🤣🙃😐😎 my $50 trainer is on its last leg, like your best 🐶
What do you mean when you say 2000w at 35kmh. You can only simulate to 35kmh or what ?
Very nice
Say, pls. Pedaling Analisys works on iPad2 w. ANT+ stick?
An electronically managed magnetic unit? Dan Lloyd?
Who's gonna win this is a very like guy/girl.
You can send it to my house, doesn't matter the cable, if there is need, I will replace it ;)
You missed a "piece de resistance" pun in there.
for me as a german you sound very funny xD
I guess Simon would need more than the 2000 watts maximum. :-)
I want to win one!
What can I learn from power distribution graph? #torqueback
Wonder howlong untill turbotrainers that use the resistance and the effort of the cyclist to acually generate power for itself and other devices, would love to charge my phone from my turbo trainer, if I had one that is
The Neo sort of does that already (generates power), but only for itself, not for your phone
the Elite Kura has a power converter built inside (so you dont need to plug it in), but unfortunately is does yet have the option to power your phone.
A Donahue Maybe they can add a power outlet to it so you can sell electricity back to the grid. Sort of like the Black Mirror episode 15 million merits
If I win, I swear to run it at that 24% simulator, and out pain-face Lasty!
It looks like the Metal Gear Solid Trainer.
ah I would love this so much 😢
I missed GCN connect a bike to show how it is done and how it works in reallife :((( .... next time unbox and show how it works m ok ?
I want to know when is the results of who won it?
Rules? One entry per email? Or can I enter over and over again?
I wonder how much electricity it takes to create 2000 watts of resistance
I love how si squeals like a school girl using his massive arm muscles to remove the trainer from the box
I need this in my life 😥😥😥
NEVER a prize or even a GCN bottle came to South America...
We pick the winners at random and we send the prizes to anywhere in the world!
Ok... But NEVER a prize or even a GCN bottle came to South America...
We've had winners from every continent except Antarctica.
Send me a GCN Bottle so i can confirm your theory. Thanks!
When will there be the John degenkolf challenge
when will the winner be announced
I have more chance of winning the *Tour de France* than winning *this competition*!
Hello gcn
I am looking to buy an aluminum frame endurance bike. I am looking to choose between the Merida ride 400 and the canyon Endurace al 6.0.
Could you please advise me on which is the better bike?
Please help thanks
Brown 266 I have the canyon and love it
I hope i'll win.

How do we know who won =D. Or the previous weeks Rotor 2in1
Watch the GCN show!!!
sweet
R.I.P anyone on headphones at five minutes
turbo muin user here. getting burned every time the words 'accurate power' is flashed by the drivo.
Any chance you can unbox a Canyon Endurace CF SLX 8.0 DI2?...
At my house...
And not film it...
Then leave it there?!
do you ship to Romania?
could you pick me for the competition winner?
I didn't know Si was fluent in german... :')
"[...]because they sent off pre production units to the physikalisch teknische Bündesanstalt[...]"
Near-flawless pronunciation by Si there, as far as we can tell...
Hi guys! Does anyone at gcn use the skuga app?
they need to make this thing look better... grey wasnt a good choice
Maverick5588 it looks like a prop from star wars
👍👍👍😁
