- Did you know that the average cost of living in Mexico is on average 45.7% cheaper than the U.S? And that over 2 million U.S. and Canadian citizens have moved to Mexico in search of a better life? So, it’s no secret that Mexico has been attracting retirees for many years due to its lower cost of living, a strong infrastructure and affordable healthcare. As of December 2023, the average Social Security check is $1,767.03, and seeing as many retirees in the US rely on Social Security payments as a major source of income, it makes sense why many retirees are choosing to venture overseas for retirement, especially in countries like Mexico where the cost of living is renowned for being significantly lower.
So, today on Across the Globe, we’re going to be taking a look at the Best Mexico Cities to Retire on a Small Pension or Social Security.

I'm always a little surprised to see so much vegetation and trees in Mexican cities, I just can't stop picturing Mexico as nothing but desert.

Thanks for a great video!
Mexico is beautiful😍
Please look into San Cristobal de las casas, with rent 100~200 dollars 1~2 bed
Tulum is plagued by an awful infrastructure and lack of rental options. It's actually more expensive to live here than even Mexico City. If you really want to live in Mexico on a budget there's much better options although you must understand that the 'normal' american way of life must be left behind, starting with consumerism. Yes there's Amazon and Walmart and Costco but the real changa in lifestyle is to retire in a relaxing way and to.lesrn to live less stressed. BTW, Mazatlán, Mérida and Oaxaca are probably the less touristy cities mentioned here...
Lol, im lucky if i get $44k a year in retirement 😂 People are saving? How much do they have??
This is not realistic! You might live on a "small" budget if you are willing to live like a local! DO YOU understand what that means? CAN YOU live without the amenities you are used to back home? DO NOT make a big move before coming down to visit and see for yourself.
Yes! Grateful to get away from the American way 😂
Never had a problem living in Ensenada within 800 dollars budget with all amenities, though.
@@wisikahn Congratulations to you. You know that the vast majority of expats can't do that.
He’s mispronouncing Mérida
Problem is...... it's heading in the wrong direction for affordability ! -- 45% now & soon to be 40% and then 33%...... > that's my point. -- A place far more desirable is the Philippines - where up to 70% cheaper can be had. -- Or perhaps Cambodia. -- And -- both of those countries speak English much more than Mexico ! -- Visa laws are 'sane' + cheaper and consistent - unlike Mexico also !!! - - - If you want "affordable" - and - "easy" - Mexico ain't it. And it's people seem allergic to English outside of the tourist trap areas. -?- S E Asia is much more desirable economical and welcoming too.
